‘Hot, big and buggy;' NYT uncovers why Broadway actors spend summers in St. Louis

ST. LOUIS — The New York Times recently uncovered why many of New York's Broadway actors would decide to spend their summer in the humidity and 'oppressive heat' of St. Louis. The NYT found The Muny had been their reason for escaping to landlocked St. Louis instead of a beach along the coast. The report followed along with the actors as they prepared for The Muny's 107th season beginning on June 16 with 'Bring It On.' The Muny recently received this year's regional theater Tony Award, and the report noted the theater's 'Broadway-caliber' shows despite a quick turnaround for a lineup of seven shows in just 10 weeks. Police: Suspect tracked obituaries, stole from dead St. Louis County residents Jessica Vosk, an actress who has been in various Muny productions, told the NYT that nine times out of 10 when Broadway performers are asked where they want to work over the summer, 'it's always the Muny.' The report also noted the Muny's staying power in the St. Louis community with its loyal subscriber base. The Muny received its Tony Award shortly after the May 16 tornado that swept through several miles of St. Louis, including Forest Park. The Muny experienced some of this damage after the storm swept away a preshow stage and caused a tree to fall on one of the concession stands. The Muny's Tony Award also includes a $25,000 grant, which the NYT reported will be given to other St. Louis theaters and even to help the theater's seasonal employees who fell victim to the tornado. Today's ‘Wordle' #1454 Hints, Clues And Answer For Thursday, June 12th

How to solve today's Wordle. SOPA Images/LightRocket via Getty Images Looking for Wednesday's Wordle hints, clues and answer? You can find them here: Yesterday was Wordle Wednesday and I gave all you fine puzzle-solvers an extra logic puzzle to solve. Every Wednesday I spice things up with a riddle or puzzle of some sort and then every Thursday, I reveal the answer. Nobody messaged me the answer to this one so I'm just going to assume nobody solved it. This was the puzzle: Four gnomish alchemists — Bimble, Gorbin, Twilla, and Zarno — are brewing powerful potions in their lab. Each one is creating a different potion, using a different rare ingredient, and worked on it on a different day this week (Monday through Thursday). Use the clues below to determine which alchemist brewed which potion, using which ingredient, and on which day. Determine for each alchemist what potion they brewed using which ingredient on which day. Monday — Gorbin — Strength Potion — Dragon Scale Tuesday — Twilla — Invisibility Potion — Troll Fat Wednesday — Bimble — Fire Resistance — Nightshade Thursday — Zarno — Healing Potion — Moonflower Petals Okay, Wordle time! The Hint: Foxy lady. The Clue: This Wordle has an 8-point Scrabble letter. Okay, spoilers below! The answer is coming! . . . FEATURED | Frase ByForbes™ Unscramble The Anagram To Reveal The Phrase Pinpoint By Linkedin Guess The Category Queens By Linkedin Crown Each Region Crossclimb By Linkedin Unlock A Trivia Ladder SPINE was a solid opener and one I've used a number of times in the past. I had three yellow boxes and 34 remaining solutions. LINER cut that down to four and moved two boxes to green. I came up with a couple options at this point, but VIXEN was just the most fun so I went with it on a gamble, and lucky for me, it panned out! Today's Wordle Bot Screenshot: Erik Kain Erik: 6 points Wordle Bot: 9 points The word vixen comes from Middle English fixen, a southern dialectal form of fox with a feminine suffix -en (similar to how ox → oxen for plural). The v- sound emerged through dialectal variation. Originally, it simply meant "female fox," with the sense of a quarrelsome or spiteful woman developing later. Today's NYT Strands Puzzle: Hints, Spangram And Answers For Thursday, June 12th

Today's NYT Strands hints and answers Looking for Wednesday's Strands hints, spangram and answers? You can find them here: Welcome back to another Strands puzzle, dearest Strandistas! We have words to uncover and this one is perfect for summer, taking us to the great outdoors—which is where we should all head immediately after solving this puzzle! Let's do it! Strands is the newest game in the New York Times' stable of puzzle games. It's a fun twist on classic word search games. Every day we're given a new theme and then tasked with uncovering all the words on the grid that fit that theme, including a spangram that spans two sides of the board. One of these words is the spangram which crosses from one side of the grid to another and reveals even more about the day's theme. Spoilers ahead. Read on for today's theme and some hints to help you uncover today's words. Instead of giving you the first two letters of each word, today I'm giving out three hints instead of two. Today's Theme: Gone fishing FEATURED | Frase ByForbes™ Unscramble The Anagram To Reveal The Phrase Pinpoint By Linkedin Guess The Category Queens By Linkedin Crown Each Region Crossclimb By Linkedin Unlock A Trivia Ladder Hint: It's not about the fish. Clue: It's about what you use to catch the fish. Here are the first two letters of each of today's words: Remember, spoilers ahead! Today's spangram is: TACKLEBOX Here's the full list of words: Here's the completed Strands grid: Today's Strands Lots of words today, but most of them pretty short and easy. I suppose it helps if you have some fishing terminology, and while I'm not a fisherman, I do know the lingo. Oddly enough I found TACKLEBOX first. Sometimes the spangram is just that obvious. From here, I knocked off all the words, HOOK, LINE and SINKER. Fish sounds good. Maybe I'll go get some fish tacos. How did you do on your Strands today? Let me know on Twitter and Facebook.
