Arrest after biker dies in crash at busy junction
A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving after a motorcyclist was killed in a crash.
The 38-year-old victim died at the scene at the junction of Waterloo Road and Vandries Street in Vauxhall, Liverpool on Wednesday.
He was riding an AJS Highway Star motorbike which collided with a Volkswagen ID3 at about 19:00 BST, Merseyside Police said.
A 24 year-old man from Liverpool remains in police custody for questioning.
Emergency services, including the North West Ambulance Service and the air ambulance, attended the scene, the force said.
Det Sgt Kurt Timpson said the family of the man who died had been informed and was being supported by specially trained officers.
He appealed for anyone with information to contact the force.
"I would also ask motorists to please check your dashcam footage to urgently review it if you were driving in the area last night," he said.
"These devices can often capture key evidence in the moments leading up to the collision."

Number of people injured at Liverpool's victory parade rises to 109
The number of people reported injured after a car drove into crowds at Liverpool's victory parade has risen to more than 100, police have said. Four people remained in hospital on Monday, a week on from the incident which happened on Water Street, in the city centre, just after 6pm. In an update, a Merseyside Police spokesman said: 'The number of people reported to have been injured currently stands at 109.' Last week, police said 79 people had been injured. Paul Doyle, 53, has been charged in connection with the crash and appeared in court last week. Detective Superintendent Rachel Wilson said: 'This is a complex and constantly evolving investigation and we are still working through and assessing those reporting being injured and our inquiries remain ongoing. 'I would like to thank everyone who has been in touch with us so far to give witness accounts or supply information or video footage. The response so far has been of great assistance in progressing the investigation. 'We have had more than 500 submissions to the Major Incident Police Portal (MIPP) and a team of detectives are currently working through the information provided. 'I would continue to appeal for anyone who has information and is yet to come forward to please get in touch as a matter of urgency.' Those injured and their families are being supported by specialist officers and police are being assisted in the investigation by forces in Greater Manchester, Cumbria, Lancashire, North Wales and Cheshire. Doyle, reported to be a former Royal Marine, from Croxteth, Liverpool, is charged with two counts of wounding with intent, two counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, two counts of attempted grievous bodily harm with intent and one count of dangerous driving. The offences relate to six victims, including two children aged 11 and 17. He was remanded in custody after appearing at Liverpool Crown Court on Friday and is due appear for a plea hearing on August 14. Detective Superintendent Wilson said: 'As a person has now been charged in connection with this incident, I would like to remind people not to speculate or share information or footage which could in any way jeopardise the case. 'We understand that emotions are still running high, and people are seeking answers, but it is vital that we allow the matter to go through the judicial process.' Police previously said they believed the car that struck pedestrians was able to follow an ambulance crew attending to someone suffering a heart attack after a road block during Liverpool FC's celebrations was temporarily lifted.

Cyclist 'recklessly' fires crossbow at house
A cyclist has opened fire with a crossbow at a house in a town on Merseyside. A "male offender" whose face was covered attacked the house on Madryn Avenue in Kirkby on Sunday just after 09:00 BST, with arrows striking the front door and a window. He was then seen riding off on a bicycle, Merseyside Police said. Nobody was hurt in the incident but the force said firing the weapon in a residential street "so recklessly" could have had "far more serious consequences". Officers are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with dashcam, CCTV, or doorbell camera footage to come forward. They said they believed the incident was "targeted" but there was a police presence in the area to give reassurance to the community. Det Insp Darren Hankin said: "I know residents in Kirkby will be shocked and saddened to hear that a crossbow has been used in the heart of their community. "To fire such a weapon in a residential street so recklessly could clearly have had far more serious consequences, and we are grateful that nobody is reported to have been hurt during this incident." He said officers were "conducting extensive enquiries to locate him, seize the weapon and bring him to justice".
