Brewers activate outfielder Daz Cameron from the paternity list
CHICAGO (AP) — The Milwaukee Brewers activated outfielder Daz Cameron from the paternity list on Tuesday.
Cameron takes the roster spot of outfielder Drew Avans, who was optioned to Triple-A Nashville. The 28-year-old Cameron is batting .200 with a homer and three RBIs in 19 games in his first year with the Brewers.
Garrett Mitchell's rehab assignment was moved from the Arizona Complex League to Nashville. The outfielder is coming back from a left oblique injury.
Brewers manager Pat Murphy said there is no target date or number of at-bats for Mitchell.
'We got to kind of track and see where he's at, keep him healthy,' Murphy said before the team's series opener against the Chicago Cubs.
Mitchell, a first-round pick in the 2020 amateur draft out of UCLA, hasn't appeared in a major league game since April 25. He batted .255 with eight homers, 21 RBIs and 11 steals last season, helping Milwaukee win the NL Central.
The Brewers are hoping the 26-year-old Mitchell will be able to rejoin the team before the All-Star break.

After the first weekend of June, there were 33. Things are ramping up as the end of the month gets closer and Rivals national recruiting director Adam Gorney breaks down the 10 biggest pledge of the weekend in today's Tuesdays With Gorney. The Monroe (La.) Neville three-star safety planned to commit in early July but after spending time in Chapel Hill, Burns canceled the remainder of his visit schedule and committed to the Tar Heels over the weekend. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH UNC FANS AT Auburn and Florida were the two standouts in Daniel's recruitment and it would have been no surprise if the four-star receiver from Tuskegee (Ala.) Booker T. Washington picked the Tigers. But he continually was drawn to Florida and chose the Gators over the weekend. That's a huge win for Florida since Daniel is a big, long, rangy receiver with good hands. He is not planning a return trip to Auburn. Coach Billy Napier and his staff are on a major recruiting heater now with 10 commitments in June alone and a top-25 class out of nowhere. Syracuse made a valiant effort to keep the upstate New York four-star receiver home and many others were involved, but Oregon was a front-runner for some time and over the weekend he committed. The Rochester (N.Y.) James Monroe standout does a little bit of everything from stretching the field deep to lining up in the slot to returning punts to blocking his tail off. The Ducks will find many ways to get him the ball. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH OREGON FANS AT The four-star cornerback from Brownsville (Tenn.) Haywood committed to Vanderbilt in late April but that's when Georgia and position coach Donte Williams really turned up the heat in his recruitment. The Bulldogs got him on campus in early June and then it was only a matter of time until he flipped to the SEC power. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH GEORGIA FANS AT Ili visited programs all across the country and at different times it seemed like Oregon, Oklahoma, Notre Dame and others were under serious consideration but his recruitment came down to USC and UCLA. The Kahuku, Hawaii, four-star linebacker, who originally played at Orange (Calif.) Lutheran, loved everything about the Bruins – the coaches, how genuine everyone was in Westwood. But USC turned it up. He had a great bond with director of high school recruiting relations Aaron Amaama and position coach Rob Ryan as the Trojans became the front-runner in the closing weeks. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH USC FANS AT Oklahoma and Texas Tech were the two other programs mainly involved in Kirkland's recruitment but the draw to stay in Waco and play for the hometown team was too much to turn down as Kirkland committed to Baylor over the weekend. The versatile 2027 four-star from Waco (Texas) University can play centerfield as a safety, can go sideline to sideline and come up and hit when needed. This recruiting cycle, the Bears went to Waco University for four-star WR London Smith. Kirkland's commitment only reinforces that connection. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH BAYLOR FANS AT After his decommitment from Ole Miss earlier this month, Florida looked like a very realistic option for the four-star receiver from Niceville, Fla., with Miami, Mississippi State and Wisconsin the others involved. Landing a commitment from Legree was huge for the Badgers, who had only one player with four receiving touchdowns last season, so someone with his playmaking ability is needed in Madison. Was this a firm commitment or an overreaction after a great visit weekend? We'll see if those Southeast teams – including the Gators – give up. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH WISCONSIN FANS AT Texas, LSU and Florida were the final three for the four-star defensive end from Tupelo, Miss., but all signs pointed to the Gators in the last week as McCoy canceled his Texas visit to return to Gainesville. During a spring visit to Florida, McCoy said he was 'lost for words' at how 'amazing' the trip was and how he was treated there. That's when the Gators really turned the corner as a favorite. In February, Oklahoma State landed a commitment from Stewart and it looked like the high three-star edge rusher from Pearland, Texas, was done with his recruitment. But Stewart started taking visits, was recently at Texas and then Illinois flipped him over the weekend. The Illini have had success developing edge rushers like him and he fits as an outside linebacker in that scheme. With 10 sacks last season, Stewart is productive. The Rivals Five-Star, the marquee football event of the offseason, is just one week away. We begin a conference-by-conference look at which programs should be paying the closest attention to the results from Indianapolis next week. First up is the Big Ten. This year they'll send another commit with defensive back Brody Jennings. He'll get to show what he can do against a talented group of receivers. Speaking of receivers there are several wideouts that are serious Michigan targets. Texas big-bodied wideout Zion Robinson is high on the Wolverines. So is local product CJ Sadler even if an official visit hasn't been fully locked in yet. Class of 2027 receiver Monshun Sales has the Wolverines as one of his top schools right now too. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH MICHIGAN FANS AT This is an event that Nebraska would love to have more players at in the future, but the Huskers have an enormous win in the 2027 recruiting class that will be in Indy next week. Illinois quarterback Trae Taylor is one of the top signal-callers in the country for his class. The four-star has had an impressive summer throwing at Nebraska's 7-on-7 event and its camps. Now he'll get to show what he can do alongside and against the nation's best. Another good showing for Taylor could get more prospects wondering what Matt Rhule has cooking in Lincoln. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH NEBRASKA FANS AT The Buckeyes are one of the programs that should have a ton of interest in the event. There are multiple Ohio State commits that will be in attendance. Running back Favour Akih, wide receiver commit Jamier Brown, quarterback Brady Edmunds and offensive lineman Sam Greer will all be in Indianapolis. There are star-studded targets to watch, too. Running back Derrek Cooper, defensive tackle Deuce Geralds and tight end Mack Sutter are all being pursued hard by coach Ryan Day's program. The Buckeyes always have a spotlight on them but they might be the team to watch during the Rivals Five-Star. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH OHIO STATE FANS AT If I had to make a prediction on the offensive lineman who will come out of this event challenging to get his rating bumped its Penn State commit Kevin Brown. The Pennsylvania native plays with a serious mean streak so he's great in the camp setting where he's sure to create a viral moment. But it's not just his physicality that makes him an intriguing prospect. He has good technique and at 6-foot-5, 270-pounds, he boasts a frame that's perfect for the Nittany Lions staff to mold. They've got a great one committed and a lot of people are about to find out more soon. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH PENN STATE FANS AT Running back Deshonne Redeaux and defensive lineman Tomuhini Topui will be the commits representing USC. Each player will come to Indy with something to prove. But it's the two major targets that I'll have my eye on. Five-star defensive end Richard Wesley was briefly committed to Oregon but opened things back up. USC will surely make a push there. Then there is five-star defensive back Duvay Williams. He's been very complimentary of other schools but the Trojans should be viewed as the heavy favorites. It'll be fun to see him against the elite receivers at the event.
