Grand 'guest house' of famed Australian performer Tim Minchin and several high-profile politicians listed for a whopping $4.5 million
A grand home in South Australia that was once a 'guest house' for Australian performer Tim Minchin has been listed for a whopping $4,500,000.
Located in the inner-city Adelaide suburb of Malvern, the luxurious 19th-century mansion boasts six bedrooms and five bathrooms.
Minchin, 49, who is based in Melbourne, lived on the property for six weeks while he wrote his acclaimed Binge streaming hit Uptight.
Situated just 4km from the CBD, the home has been listed by Josephine Marshall and her husband Andrew who purchased the property 13 years ago, reports The Advertiser.
Josephine, director of fashion label One Rundle Trading Co., told the publication that when she and her builder husband snapped up the property it was a 'wreck'.
Converted into a four flat tenement after the end of World War II, the businesswoman said that the home was in such disrepair when the pair bought it that the local council had sections of it condemned.
The couple splashed out on a renovation that restored the mansion to its former glory.
Set on beautifully manicured grounds, the 1880s-built two-storey property is a charming mix of ornate styling and ultra-modern chic.
Many of the 19th-century stylings have been maintained, including slate and marble fireplaces, original iron locks and keys, staircase treads, and decorative ceiling features.
Known as the 'House with the Tower' because of its soaring square turret, the mansion also features a semi-commercial kitchen with a 'butler's wing' and four separate living areas.
There's also a large salt-chlorinated pool and an adjoining entertainment deck.
Other highlights include an Oregon timber staircase, underfloor heating in three bathrooms, and a 'children's wing'.
The property also hosts a separate guest dwelling known as the 'Coach House', where Tim Minchin stayed.
The owners have also received several well-known faces in politics as guests.
'We're also fortunate to have been invited to host former Prime Minister Scott Morrison, and Peter Dutton for lunch, and Jacinta Nampijinpa Price for dinner, and that was really fun,' Josephine Marshall told The Advertiser.
It comes after Minchin announced a new tour for 2025.
The popular performer will present his Songs The World Will Never Hear show in Brisbane, Canberra, Perth, Newcastle, Sydney and the Gold Coast and Toowoomba.
Minchin will kick off his tour in home town of Melbourne on October 31.

The Norwich Beer Festival has run for more than 50 years and it has previously been held at The Halls, in the city. The organisers said it will take place at a number of different venues this year, with the dates and locations to be announced. Craig Harmer, the festival's organiser, said: "We know how important the Norwich Beer Festival is to the local community, whilst we're disappointed that the refurbishment of The Halls in Norwich will not be complete, we're excited to announce that the festival will continue." While the event usually takes place from 27 October to 1 November, this year it will run at an alternative date. Mr Harmer said the festival typically takes up the whole of The Halls. Works to The Halls were due to be completed in April The Halls in Norwich is made up of St Andrews and Blackfriars Halls and closed at the beginning of 2023 to allow for works to be carried out. The building was due to reopen in April. The 14th Century building required structural repairs to its roof and windows, improvements to make the site into an arts venue and electrical upgrades. A survey of the building showed moisture had built up in the roof's timber after plastic sheeting was installed about 80-100 years ago. Mr Harmer said organisers of the festival were told in 2022 that the traditional venue would need to close. He said: "It's all about supporting the pubs and the breweries... this year we are planning to incorporate everything. Bella Bennett, from South Australia, explained a chilling tactic narcissists often use to regain control when the spotlight isn't on them. Unfortunately for those in the firing line, it often starts with simply showing any signs of happiness - especially around special occasions or milestones. 'Pretend you have a special occasion coming up... Whether it's your friend's birthday or whatever... Watch how they treat you during the days, nights and mornings leading up to that occasion,' Bella said in the video. According to Bella, if your partner is a narcissist, you'll notice a shift almost immediately. 'The moment something else is making you happy and the attention is going off them, they can't stand it,' she explained. 'The first thing they're going to try do is prove to you that your happiness depends on their mood.' In other words? If you were genuinely looking forward to a big night out or an important milestone, and suddenly find yourself anxious, miserable, or second-guessing everything, it might not be bad luck. It could be emotional sabotage. Experts agreed that the 'occasion test' was a 'genius way' to spot the signs. Sydney clinical psychologist Dr Maria-Elena Lukeides said that narcissists often manipulate emotional dynamics to ensure their partner's happiness (and even self-worth) feel conditional on the narcissist's approval or mood. If you're happy without them or excited about something that doesn't involve them, it can trigger deep insecurity, often leading to them lashing out or trying to bring you down. 'This is a tactic (whether they're cognisant of it or not) that aims to keep their partner emotionally dependent and reinforces the narcissist's sense of control and importance,' Dr Lukeides told FEMAIL. 'This is because the narcissist often defends against their own negative states of emotions by projecting onto their partners.' The manipulative game is sadly one many victims don't realise they're playing until it's too late. Bella's video struck a chord with thousands of people after it racked up more than 750,000 views. 'Your own birthday is the worst. That's when it's time to really devalue you,' one person said. 'My ex would start a fight right before attending a special occasion. He gets to stay home with his Xbox and my night is ruined,' another wrote. 'I wish I saw this video 27 years ago,' one added. A healthy partner on the other hand, 'will encourage your independence, celebrate your achievements, and feel genuine happiness for your joy - even when it doesn't involve them directly,' Dr Lukeides said. They love-bombed you in the beginning, then changed overnight Narcissists are known for sweeping romantic gestures, deep declarations of love, and making you feel like 'the one' early on. But once they have you hooked, the affection can dry up fast — leaving you confused and craving their validation. 2. They never apologise - or if they do, it's fake You'll hear phrases like 'I'm sorry you feel that way' or 'I wouldn't have done that if you didn't...' 'They rarely apologise sincerely and often blame others (or lie!) about their own shortcomings or mistakes,' said Dr. Lukeides. 3. They constantly play the victim Even when they've clearly hurt you, somehow, they'll twist the story to make it your fault or paint themselves as the one who's suffering. 'This includes a lack of genuine empathy, frequent need for admiration, inability to accept criticism, gaslighting (a complicated thing, but essentially makes you question your reality), and a pattern of manipulating others for personal gain.' 4. A mystery mogul has clicked 'buy now' on a piece of prime real estate next door to Amazon titan Jeff Bezos – after the seller slashed a staggering $70million off the asking price. Property records seen by reveal an offer was accepted this weekend for the undeveloped lot on Miami's ultra-exclusive Indian Creek Village, where Bezos owns three of the coveted 41 homes. The less-than-two-acre parcel made headlines when it was listed for a jaw-dropping $200 million in December, marketed as the rare chance to live beside one of the planet's most influential billionaires. When a buyer failed to materialize the asking price was slashed to $150million and later $130million – still a remarkable profit on an empty plot of land acquired for $27.5million in 2018. Indian Creek Island – the so-called 'Billionaire Bunker' - has become the go-to retreat for tech moguls, hedge funders and high net celebs seeking maximum privacy, 24-7 security and luxe waterfront living. Its wealthy denizens include Jared and Ivanka Kushner, Tom Brady, renowned investor Carl Icahn and 61-year-old Bezos, who has spent nearly a quarter-billion dollars consolidating his hold on the elite enclave, which has its own police department and an invitation-only golf course. The Amazon CEO – worth around $227billion - acquired 11 and 12 Indian Creek Island Road in 2023 after announcing his intention to relocate from Seattle to South Florida, revealing he wanted to be closer to his parents and fiancée Lauren Sanchez, 55. The two homes set Bezos back a combined $147million but the spending spree continued in 2024 when he snapped up 28 Indian Creek Island Road in an off-market deal worth a reported $90million. The mystery buyers' famous neighbors include Jared Kushner and First Daughter Ivanka Trump and NFL legend Tom Brady, who was spotted sunbathing naked on the roof of his newly completed Indian Creek Island Road mansion 'They were planning to build, but then plans changed and they decided to sell,' Reznik told the New York Post. 'It's more interesting to know that the land is next to Bezos than who the seller is.' Kushner and First Daughter Ivanka purchased their nearby home on Indian Creek Island for $24million in April 2021 and spent more than two years renovating it. Icahn reportedly purchased his mansion in 1997 for $7.5million, while Colombian banker Jaime Gilinski assembled five properties to build his family a compound. Football great Brady and his then-supermodel wife Gisele Bündchen were building an 'eco-mansion' in the ultra-secure compound prior to their split.
