Shemar Stewart's Agent Rips Bengals for 'Sign It' Or Else Contract Offer
Shemar Stewart's Agent Rips Bengals for 'Sign It' Or Else Contract Offer originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Cincinnati Bengals have their biggest contractual problem with a superstar as they are reportedly resuming talks with Trey Hendrickson. But that isn't the only contract issue they have with a pass rusher.

Shemar Stewart, taken at slot No. 17 overall in the recent NFL Draft out of Texas A&M, is exercising an unusual holdout for a rookie, sitting out all offseason workouts ... because the team is doing something unusual.
Stewart and agent Zac Hiller are refusing to agree with the team's contractual language regarding any "what if'' occurrence.
Some think that before he ever lines up for an official NFL snap - before he even hits the practice field - he could be traded.
No team has failed to sign their first-round pick before trading them, making this scenario one without much previous context if it comes to fruition.

The latest as of now? Hiller is going public and ripping Cincy for its approach.
"Contracts are based on precedent,'' the agent said (hat-tip here via SiriusXM.) So, when Shemar has never asked for anything more or less protective than any of his teammates, it's a simple fix. It's just say, 'Hey, this is the precedent. Let's keep the precedent.'
"It's essentially that when a player signs his contract and it's guaranteed, it should be completely, fully guaranteed. Obviously, if there's certain circumstances that happen, the team should be able to void. However, again, if you want to make changes to your precedent, it should be a negotiation. It should be give and take.
"It shouldn't just be, 'Hey, we're changing this and sign this or go scratch.''

"Go scratch,'' essentially meaning, "Go to hell.''
In all likelihood, Cincinnati will try to resolve the contract dispute and retain their rookie defensive end, but each passing day allows for more rumors to circulate about a potential trade. ... and about more disgruntlement from all involved.
Is a trade really possible?
According to the league's Collective Bargaining Agreement, the team has until 30 days before the first game of the regular season to trade an unsigned draft pick. This year, the first game is a Thursday bout between Dallas and Philadelphia on Sept. 4.
That makes August 5 the deadline for a Stewart trade.

After that point, he cannot be traded at all this season, whether he signs or not.
If Stewart decides to sign sometime during the regular season, he has until the Tuesday after Week 10 to make his contract official and be eligible to play the rest of the season.
A third option would see Stewart hold out the entire regular season, and choose to wait until the 2026 Draft begins, where he would be eligible to re-enter the pool of prospects. He could be drafted by any team other than the Bengals - if they would even want him at that point, anyway.
Stewart profiles as a player with untapped potential. He didn't blow away stat-keepers during his college career, but his 6-5, 290-pound athletic frame earned him the right to be drafted ... but to this point, not to get a standard contract offer from the Bengals team that picked him.

Tarik Skubal put American League on notice in Sunday Night Baseball debut
Tarik Skubal put American League on notice in Sunday Night Baseball debut originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Tarik Skubal met the moment. On a night when the Detroit Tigers hosted their first Sunday Night Baseball game since 2017, the 2024 Cy Young winner fed off the standing-room only crowd at Comerica Park and abused the Twins hitters he faced. Advertisement As ESPN's Buster Olney noted, Skubal went into Sunday night's game against Minnesota with 32% of the pitches he has thrown this season resulting in called or swinging strikes. That's the best in Major League Baseball. But with the baseball world watching Sunday night, Skubal took it to another level. Under the lights and with no other game in the league to watch, Skubal was nasty. An unbelievable 45% of his pitches against the Twins were either called or swinging strikes, a staggering number that highlights his dominance. Skubal was nearly flawless on the mound. He threw seven innings of one-hit baseball, walking one and completely shutting down Minnesota's lineup for most of the game. Skubal also tied his career high with 13 strikeouts, further underscoring his status as one of the premier strikeout pitchers in the game. Advertisement His performance was nothing short of spectacular and proved why he's considered the best pitcher in the game right now. While some can feel the Sunday Night game is an inconvenience, Skubal was clearly excited about it. It was his first appearance on Sunday Night Baseball, and the Tigers' first time hosting the national broadcast since 2017. Skubal's ability to generate strikes with both precision and power is what sets him apart. For Skubal, Sunday's game wasn't just about racking up the strikeouts; it sent a message to the rest of baseball. He and the Tigers are the team to beat in the American League. Ravens Icon Justin Tucker's Agent Speaks Out On Major NFL Announcement
Ravens Icon Justin Tucker's Agent Speaks Out On Major NFL Announcement originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Baltimore Ravens finally made the decision, as kicker Justin Tucker was accused of sexual misconduct by several Baltimore-area massage therapists, to release the iconic All-Pro. Advertisement Now, the NFL has announced Tucker's punishment - and Tucker's side isn't very happy about it. Tucker, 35, is suspended without pay for the first 10 weeks of the 2025 season for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy. In response, the following statement has been released by Tucker's representative Rob Roche ... "We are disappointed with the NFL's decision. Justin has always strived to carry himself in a way that would make his family and community proud. He stands by his previous statements. In order to put this difficult episode behind him and get back on the field as soon as possible, we have advised Justin to accept this resolution and close this matter. Advertisement "The people who know Justin best know his character and understand that while he remains fully committed to excellence as a football player, he is deeply dedicated to his most important lifetime roles as a father, husband, and friend.' In the league's press release, the suspension will take effect on roster cut day, August 26 and he will be eligible for reinstatement on November 11. Tucker is currently still a free agent. If he were to be signed by a team, he is able to serve his suspension under contract. He is able to communicate and try out for a club, and if he is signed, is able to attend training camp this offseason. Advertisement Six massage therapists have come forward, accusing Tucker of inappropriate behavior during sessions that took place between 2012 and 2016. The allegations include claims that Tucker exposed himself, made inappropriate contact, and left bodily fluids on massage tables. After the investigation had gotten underway, Tucker released a statement to address the allegations. "The allegations against me in The Baltimore Banner article about me are unequivocally false. Throughout my career as a professional athlete, I have always sought to conduct myself with the utmost professionalism," said Tucker. "I have never before been accused of misconduct of any kind, and I have never been accused of acting inappropriately in front of a massage therapist or during a massage therapy session or during other bodywork. I have never received any complaints from a massage therapist, have never been dismissed from a massage therapy or bodywork session, and have never been told that I was not welcome at any spa or other place of business." Advertisement Tucker - maybe the best kicker of his generation - is coming off the worst year of his career. He made a disastrous 73.3 percent of his field goal attempts (especially compared to his all-time best career average of 89.1 percent). He also missed more field goals between 40 and 49 yards than he had in any other season. With the 10th pick of the sixth round of the NFL Draft, the Ravens took Arizona kicker Tyler Loop, who has the inside track to be Tucker's replacement this season.
