Circ & Selenis Scale Circular Polyester in Europe

Textile-to-textile recycling pioneer Circ® has entered a strategic partnership with Selenis, a Portugal-based polyester manufacturer, to scale the industrial production of Circ® Polyester from end-of-life textiles in Europe. Under this agreement, Selenis will toll and polymerize thousands of metric tons of Circ's recycled polyester, providing critical infrastructure to commercialize the fiber at large volumes across key apparel segments including activewear, basics, and fashion. This collaboration not only accelerates Circ's dual-product platform—spanning recycled polyester and lyocell—but also enhances access to high-quality circular fibers for global mills and brands. Peter Majeranowski, CEO of Circ®, stated, 'This partnership validates our strategy to scale two critical fiber alternatives simultaneously. With Selenis, we are well-positioned to deliver on the global demand for circular materials.' Selenis, known for its expertise in high-performance polyester manufacturing, brings years of technical know-how and operational strength to the venture. The company has already made strides in bottle-to-bottle circularity and now strengthens its role in textile-to-textile recycling, with operations expanding in both the U.S. and Italy. 'This is about turning circularity from theory into industrial reality,' said Duarte Matos Gil, CEO of Selenis. 'We need systems where garments return as garments, not waste. And that requires both innovation and supportive legislation.' Eduardo Santos, Global Head of Strategy at Selenis, added, 'Our decision to invest in textile circularity—even as our roots were in plastics—reflects our long-term vision. This alliance with Circ® is our next leap forward in making fashion truly sustainable.' Together, Circ® and Selenis are building the infrastructure needed to close the loop on polyester production in the fashion industry—at scale, and across continents.

iPhone maker Foxconn to invest $2.2 bn in India, US as it shifts from China

The department has also cleared a $1.49 billion investment proposal aimed at increasing capital in Foxconn Singapore Pte Ltd, a subsidiary of the company New Delhi Apple's iPhone assembler Hon Hai, also known as Foxconn, has secured regulatory approval for two of its investment plans worth more than $2.2 billion, in India and the US, news agency Focus Taiwan reported on Tuesday (local time). The Department of Investment Review under the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) approved the plan for the Taiwan-based manufacturing giant. The department has also cleared a $1.49 billion investment proposal aimed at increasing capital in Foxconn Singapore Pte Ltd, a subsidiary of the company. This Singapore-based unit will, in turn, invest the funds into Yuzhan Technology (India) Pvt Ltd, another entity under Hon Hai's umbrella operating in India. The announcement comes at a time amid trade tensions between the US and China, following which, Hon Hai has now decided to diversify its production out of China, with India being seen as an ideal destination to produce iPhones and their components. Hon Hai will be setting up a new company in the US, after receiving a nod from the MOEA to allocate $375 million from its disposal capital. The company in the US will be in charge of the data center module protection, along with server assembly. Foxconn, Apple shift to India According to a Reuters report, Foxconn ships 97 per cent of iPhones from India for its US market. A move which has been criticised by the US President Donald Trump, who told Apple's Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Tim Cook, 'Tim, you're my friend... but now I hear you're building all over India. I don't want you building in India. You can build in India if you want to take care of India, because India is one of the highest-tariff nations in the world.' Shipments between March and May 2025 were valued at $3.2 billion, with an average of 97 per cent being sent to the US, marking a sharp jump from the earlier 50 per cent monthly average recorded through 2024, Reuters reported. In May, Foxconn also announced plans to move ahead with investing $1.5 billion in a new component factory near Chennai, despite political pressure from Trump to shift production back to the United States. Hon Hai expands global footprint As Hon Hai continues to expand its global footprint, it is now extending its reach in production to countries and regions such as the US, India, Mexico, Vietnam, and Europe. Hon Hai, worldwide, has 223 plants and offices in a total of 24 countries. While it has 54 plants and offices in the US, 12 are in Europe and India each.

Do you get sudden urge to poop while shopping? Gastroenterologist explains science behind ‘wild' phenomenon

Do you ever get a sudden urge to poop while you are out shopping? Well, you are not alone. In an Instagram post shared on June 24, Florida-based gastroenterologist Dr Joseph Salhab explained the bizarre science behind this. 'Do you poop while shopping? Here's why this happens - doctor explains,' he wrote. The sudden urge to have a bowel movement when shopping may be because of some sort of sensory stimulus. (Freepik) Also Read | AIIMS gastroenterologist shares why you must have probiotics with fibre rich foods after antibiotics for gut health Dr Salhab stitched a video of another woman in which she revealed that she hadn't 'pooped in a month'. Therefore, to bring about some bowel movement, she went shopping at a department store. Explaining the science behind this, the gastroenterologist said, 'This is actually quite a common phenomenon where people enter certain stores like TJ Maxx, Home Depot, Walmart, and Target, and all of a sudden, they have a sudden urge to have a bowel movement.' What is this phenomenon called? According to Dr Salhab, it is actually coined the Mariko Aoki phenomenon, which describes it as 'the sudden urge to have a bowel movement when people enter bookstores such as Barnes & Noble'. The gastroenterologist pointed out that it's hard to say exactly why this happens. According to him, it may be because of some sort of sensory stimuli, like the lights, the smell of coffee, or fresh books, creating a relaxing atmosphere. 'On the other hand, the excitement or adrenaline rush of shopping and looking at price tags may also have a stimulatory effect on people, causing them to feel the need to have a bowel movement,' he added. Lastly, Dr Salhab revealed that some individuals visit stores every single day because that's the only way they can use a restroom. 'It's wild to think about, but clearly, there's something there.'
