Owen Farrell not focused on ‘hypothetical' Lions talk after rejoining Saracens
The 33-year-old this week cut short his stay at Racing 92 in order to move back to the Premiership with the club where he had previously spent his whole career, after injury wrecked his debut season in the Top 14.
The fly-half, who announced he was stepping away from Test rugby with England following the 2023 World Cup citing a toll on his mental health, said he is 'not retired' from international duty and has kept in contact with coach Steve Borthwick during his time in France.

He was not named in the 38-man Lions squad picked last month by his dad Andy despite there being no rules prohibiting his selection while he was based outside of England, but he has left open the possibility of answering the call should injuries dictate.
Asked what his stance would be on a possible call-up, he said: 'It's not changed I don't think.
'There's nothing for me to do other than concentrate on getting myself back (at Saracens) and getting myself in the best place I possibly can do. Everting else is hypothetical.'
Farrell Sr had previously left the door open to his son joining up with the Lions in Australia, though he was not among the additional players recruited for a training camp in Portugal last week.
He will however be in attendance when the team play Argentina in Dublin on Friday as he makes his debut as a TV pundit during Sky Sports' coverage of the game.
The Saracens returnee, who has taken part in three previous Lions tours, was asked whether it was reasonable to assume he would be in the running for a late call-up given his experience.
'I'm not thinking like that,' he said. 'I think if you do start thinking like that you can tie yourself in knots. All that I can do is focus on what I've got going on and get myself in the best place I can be.'
Farrell has not played since suffering a head injury during Racing's defeat to Lyon in last month's Challenge Cup semi-final, while a groin problem previously caused him to miss significant periods of what has turned to be his only season in France.
The return to Saracens means he becomes immediately available for selection for Borthwick's England.
'We've kept in touch with Steve,' he said. 'He came out to Racing earlier in the season. The main thing is getting myself in a good place, getting myself back here, back in the Premiership to Saracens and loving what I'm doing. I really feel like I can do that here. That's the starting point.
'I keep talking about enjoying myself, I keep talking about being happy, but I think that's the way that I get more out of it now. That's what opens up a lot more opportunity. If I get to that and I'm loving what I'm doing then we'll see.
'I'm not retired, no.'

That's why the ex-Celtic goalie reckons his former Canaries team-mate is ideally suited for a leading role in Russell Martin's Rangers revolution. McGovern told SunSport: 'I was there when Max made his debut against Stevenage, and also when he scored his first goal against Cardiff. 'He's a good boy and I used to sit beside him in the dressing room. He was always well thought of at Norwich. 'Max was in a group of young players like Jamal Lewis, Ben Godfrey and Todd Cantwell — up-and-coming boys who were destined to move on to great things. There was a lot of talk of them all moving on to bigger clubs. Max probably moved on last, even though there was a lot of interest in him.' The most high-profile interest came from the continent, with Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen both watching Aarons. But Barca boss Ronald Koeman was first to make his move, with the loan deal five years ago only collapsing due to the fact there was no obligation to buy at the end of it. McGovern added: 'I know for a fact that Barcelona offered to take him on loan a few years ago. They were struggling financially at the time, and couldn't sign players permanently in that window. 'Max had probably stayed at Norwich a season or two longer than he should have for his own development. He eventually moved to Bournemouth when Norwich were relegated. 'If Barca try to take you on loan but your club says, 'No', a lot of players would have gone kicking and screaming to the owner, sporting director, or the people who make the decisions. Rangers captain James Tavernier spotted training with ex-team-mate and old Premiership rival Ryan Porteous who branded him 'bad loser' 'Some players would have said they are not playing or not training properly. 'But Max didn't do any of that when the move fell through. It's all credit to him and his character. 'As much as he was really disappointed, he just got his head down and worked hard.' Former England Under-21 cap Aarons — who looks set to join Gers on loan — finally left Carrow Road for the Cherries in a £7million deal. He starred in the Premier League again, before falling out of favour with boss Andoni Iraola and he headed out on loan to Valencia. McGovern said: 'Max went for £7m in the end, but at that stage he only had a year left on his contract at Norwich. I'm pretty sure there were offers in previous seasons of a lot more than £7m. 'If he goes to Rangers, they are signing a player who still has a lot of potential. 'That's obvious given Max has moved for £7m and his club knocked back even bigger offers previously. 'He has maybe lost his way a little bit in the last year or two — but that's because he hasn't played so much football. 3 'Clubs in Scotland probably wouldn't get a player with as much potential if the circumstances were different. 'But Rangers would be getting a player who just needs someone to show belief in him. 'If they do that with Max, I'm sure he will repay their faith with some top-quality performances.' Cherries right-back Aarons — who can also play on the left — is likely to join on loan and will present a challenge to Gers skipper James Tavernier. He was out of favour at the Vitality Stadium and spent the second part of last season in La Liga, although he started only two games for Valencia. Now 25, Aarons spoke recently of the influence former Norwich captain Martin had on his career as a teenager. Despite never playing together in the Canaries' first team, he has described the Gers gaffer as a 'father figure'. McGovern, who spent seven years with Norwich, said: 'Towards the end of his time at the club, Russ was put in the reserves and had to train with the Under-23s. He has spoken in the past about the captain training with them. 'It could have been a dent to his pride, but Russ carried himself in the right manner — as he always did — and that stuck with Max. 'I still stay in touch with him. I always got on really well with him at Norwich and he's just a great lad. 'I really hope that he starts to play a lot of games next season for Rangers.' McGovern thought Aarons and Martin would have been reunited long before a potential reunion at Ibrox this summer. The former Northern Ireland No 1 added: 'I'm pretty sure Russ was interested in signing Max back when he was the Southampton manager. 'There was talk of Kyle Walker-Peters leaving the club and Max coming in to replace him, but it just never happened.' Aarons returned to the Cherries last month after his short spell in Spain. It included a 2-1 win over Real Madrid at the Bernabeu when he went toe to toe with Vinicius Jr. But it also saw Valencia lose 7-1 at champions Barca, with Aarons now looking set for a reunion with father figure Martin in Glasgow. The injured Japanese playmaker's guile was sorely missed as the Hoops lost the Scottish Cup final to Aberdeen. Hatate was proud to play a key role domestically and in the Champions League — but knows lifting trophies and racking up medals is all that counts. He revealed a Zico anecdote from Japan legend Atsuto Uchida has always stuck in his mind. And talented Hatate admits he will never forget his fourth Premiership triumph with Celts after a brilliant individual campaign. He said: 'The moment we won the title, I felt a sense of accomplishment and fulfilment unlike anything I had ever felt before. 'In the previous season, I was injured repeatedly and played only 16 league games. This year, I was able to play in many more and contribute. 'I could also feel my growth as a player, defensively and in attack. 'I feel I have performed better than ever last season since joining Celtic. That is why I felt like I did when we won the league. 'However, I also remember some golden words from Zico that former player Atsuto Uchida once said. Celtic have clinched the Premiership title - now Hatate could leave with SIX players coming in They were, 'When you retire as a player, all that remains is the number of titles you have won'. 'Hearing that, I'm proud to have added another league title to my career this season. 'Winning cups and leagues is a cumulative effort. We play in a team and environment that allows us to aim for the title and we achieved it. 'But after a while, people forget how well a player performed in that season and what kind of level they showed. 'Numbers of goals and assists are there, but the record of winning a title will remain forever.' Hatate worked hard on his fitness last summer following an injury-plagued 2023/24 campaign. Hatate added: 'I feel like my experience in the Champions League has helped me grow. 'When playing against stronger teams, I've had many opportunities to play side-by-side with the captain Callum McGregor, our main defensive midfielder. 'By doing that, I began to observe the opponent's positioning more. 'With high pressing becoming mainstream worldwide, when we build up from a low position, the player with the ball is generally free. 'Someone will come to press that free player. At that time, I have become aware of who is coming to press and where there is an opening. 'As a result, I was able to see who was where and how they would move to see where the space would open up. The pair are close pals, and the Brighton attacker shared some wisdom with Hatate to help the Hoops star. He said: 'Against Kilmarnock at the end of the season, Cameron Carter- Vickers played a pass to me, and I was able to find Anthony Ralston almost without looking. 'This is because I was aware of the pressing and positioning of the opponents — and we scored from that pass. 'You can create space for your team-mates by dragging defenders to you when you have the ball. 'My assist for Daizen Maeda's goal before half-time against St Johnstone in the Scottish Cup semi-final was also satisfying on this front. 'I remember speaking to him about this on the team coach after Japan played Saudi Arabia. 'He told me, 'If one player on the ball can attract the opponent, space will be created somewhere and things will open up'. 'I strongly agreed and understood what he was talking about. When I returned to Celtic, I always kept those words in mind. 'We have a lot of possession of the ball in Scotland, and we are able to attract defenders through one and two-touch moves. 'We have very good dribblers on the wings, and they have more opportunities to do that than I do.
