EVEN the world's best players are going to struggle to get out of the rough as the US Open tees off at Oakmont this week.
The PGA Tour 's top hitters will battle it out around the Pennsylvania course starting this Thursday - and a video of the thick rough being tamed by greenkeepers has shown just how tricky it will be.

An army of Oakmont Country Club greenkeeper armed with lawnmowers have been wading through the rough to try and make things slightly earier.
But the conditions still appear to be about as tough as it gets, with players aware they will need to do everything they can to keep the ball on the fairway in the year's third major.
Videos circulating on social media show that a ball dropped from knee height into the rough is almost completely lost in the thick stuff.
While players have voiced their concerns for just how difficult it will be to play in the conditions this week.
Tyrrell Hatton shared a video of a practice round that showed him struggling to even see his ball in the long grass.
And the world number 24 had to give it his all just to be able to knock the ball back onto the fairway with a wedge in hand.
Two-time US Open champion Bryson DeChambeau told his YouTube channel: "This course doesn't just challenge your game, it challenges your sanity."
Adding: "This is the hardest this golf course could ever play right now.'

While three-time major champion Jordan Spieth said: "This course is built to be like this.
'So they're not doing a whole lot different to the golf course.
Jason Weaver is super proud as son Tyler qualifies for US Open alongside Rory McIlroy
"You hit a good shot, you get rewarded for it here. And if you don't, you're in big trouble. It's pure golf, no funny business about it.'
Jhonattan Vegas, who finished T5 at the PGA Championship last month, even branded the rough as "unplayable".
The USGA have been criticised in recent years for making the US Open courses too hard, but some fans enjoy seeing the top pros battle to make par - seeing it as more familiar to their own game.
The rough on Oakmont stands at 5 INCHES tall, with the course trimmed to ensure that is uniform throughout all 18 holes.
The course crew have detailed that they even mow the grass in a specific way to ensure it doesn't lay over itself and allow the ball to rest on top - making the rough is as punishing as possible.
All 156 players will take swing at trying to beat the course when the action gets underway on Thursday.
World number one Scottie Scheffler remains the favourite to lift the trophy after he earned his third major title at the PGA Championship in North Carolina last month.
While DeChambeau, Rory McIlroy, John Rahm and Ludvig Aberg are all amongst the top contenders for the title too.

Emma Raducanu makes short work of opening win at Queen's

The 22-year-old, who secured a first doubles victory with partner Katie Boulter on Monday, revealed before the tournament – the first time Queen's has hosted women's tennis in 52 years – that she was still managing ongoing back issues, playing down expectations for this WTA 500 event, boasting a £1million prize pot. But wild card Raducanu was in fine form on Tuesday afternoon on centre court – the day before inaugurated as the Andy Murray Arena – where she dispatched Bucsa in just one hour and four minutes, much to the delight of the home crowd who were behind the 2021 US Open champion the whole way. 'I must say I was quite locked in today,' Raducanu said on court. 'I'm very pleased with my performance. I was a little bit nervous for sure at the beginning, it's my first time playing on this court at Queen's in London, and the support is incredible. 'I'm still trying to find my groove on this surface, there are certain shots that I feel like I am a little bit late on, so I'm working on that. 'I knew today was going to be a very difficult match. I actually lost to Cristina earlier on in the year, so I was really trying to fight and make sure that didn't happen again. 'I was really trying to fight and get myself into the second round, because I just want to stay here playing at Queen's as many matches as I possibly can.' This was Raducanu's first appearance on the west London venue's marquee stage after making her Queen's debut on the smaller Court One on Monday with British number one Boulter. The latter also punched her ticket to the second round but in much grittier fashion, battling to a 7-6 (4) 1-6 6-4 victory over Australian qualifier Ajla Tomljanovic. 'When I walked out it actually surpassed what I thought it would feel like when I kind of imagined it,' said Boulter, adding: 'I think it's very easy to get caught up in just trying to get your first grass court match, also coming to such an historic venue as well, which holds a lot of purpose and a lot of familiar feelings when I've come here before.' Earlier, Heather Watson set up a second-round meeting with fourth seed and former Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina after upsetting world number 27 Yulia Putintseva, 107 places above her in the rankings, 6-4 6-3. Former British number one Watson won all four of her break points to see off her Kazakh opponent in an hour and 22 minutes. It was not to be for British wildcard Fran Jones, however, who was defeated in straight 6-2 6-4 sets by American McCartney Kessler, while the other all-British pair in the doubles draw, Kartel and Jodie Burrage, were knocked out in a nervy 7-6 (8) 7-6 (1) defeat to Lyudmyla Kichenok and Erin Routliffe.

Eagle-eyed fans spot VERY surprising nod to Taylor Swift in Travis Kelce's gym bag

Travis Kelce caught the eye of observant Taylor Swift fans on Tuesday as he was spotted with a surprising tribute to the singer in his gym bag. Kelce was seen in athletic wear and a backwards white baseball cap as he carried around a zebra print gym bag in Florida. And eagle-eyed fans of Swift's noticed that the singer's 'Eras Tour Book' was peeking out, with what looked like its pink cover barely visible. Pictures of the Chiefs tight end and Swift's boyfriend appearing to hold the book went viral on X, as one fan wrote: 'HELLO IS THAT THE ERAS TOUR BOOK???' while zooming into his bag. 'Travis misses eras tour just as much as us,' another wrote. And a third suggested: 'He is probably bringing an autograph copy to someone at the gym.' Swift released the book to commemorate her world-famous Eras Tour, which spanned 149 shows Swift's world-famous Eras Tour ran nearly two years from March 17, 2023 to December 8, 2024. The tour featured 149 shows across five continents, with the last performance coming in Vancouver, Canada. And Kelce followed his girlfriend around the world as she performed last summer, even making an onstage cameo at her show at Wembley Stadium in London. After his high-octane offseason last year, Kelce has been taking it easier following the Chiefs' Super Bowl LIX loss to the Eagles, as he was spotted in Florida on Tuesday. The Chiefs star, who has been spending plenty of time in Florida of late, remained in the Sunshine State despite the beginning of optional team activities (OTAs) back in Missouri. Over the weekend, Travis went to a family wedding and brought along his pop star girlfriend, Swift, as a date. Swift gave guests the shock of a lifetime after joining Kelce to celebrate his cousin, Tanner Corum, tying the knot at a barnhouse in Nashville on Friday. On Monday, Kelce was seen enjoying himself at a golf event at the Kiawah Island resort in South Carolina. He posed with former Panthers and Bears tight end Greg Olsen, as Kelce smiled and pointed his finger at the former NFL star. Kelce recently cheered his girlfriend on after she announced on Instagram that she had bought back control of her first six albums. Fans spotted that Kelce liked the post on Instagram, while his friend and teammate, Patrick Mahomes , even re-posted the news on X.

Auckland City amateurs take a break from the day job for Club World Cup

June 11 (Reuters) - While most of the teams at the revamped Club World Cup would have a claim to be among the best sides in their countries, Auckland City are not even the biggest club in New Zealand's most populous city. That status belongs to Auckland FC, who played in front of crowds of almost 30,000 as they topped the regular standings in their debut campaign in Australia's A-League this year. Australia has been in the Asian Football Confederation since 2006, however, so it falls to Auckland City to represent the Oceania confederation in the United States over the next couple of weeks. "We're representing 99% of club teams in world football who are amateurs," Adam Mitchell, centre back and real estate agent, told Fox Sports. "We all have day jobs. We work usually nine to five. It's extremely difficult and it's tiring, but to have these rewards at the end of the tunnel is obviously a privilege for every single person involved in this in this club." Auckland City, whose home crowds range from a few hundred to a couple of thousand, qualified by beating Papua New Guinea's Hekari United 2-0 to win the Oceania Champions League for the 13th time in 18 years in April. Rated the 4,957th best team in the world in the Opta Power Rankings, opens new tab, Auckland City will play former European champions Bayern Munich (6th) and Benfica (24th) as well as Argentina's Boca Juniors (131st) at their 12th Club World Cup. They finished fourth at the 2014 edition after beating Morocco's MA Tetouan on penalties and Algeria's ES Setif 1-0, but otherwise it has been mostly exits at the first hurdle before the big clubs get involved. This year's Club World Cup is an altogether different beast with 32 teams, including the biggest in the game, and $1 billion in prize money. Mitchell, who failed to make the grade at Red Star Belgrade and Bolton Wanderers in his teens and early 20s, is therefore contemplating the task of shackling England and Bayern striker Harry Kane in Cincinnati on Sunday. "He's one of the most prolific goalscorers in world football for the last five to six years," the 29-year-old said. "I can't say I won't let him score, but I'm going to do my best not to let him score." The club lost 1-0 to Al-Ain in their final warm-up match in Alexandria, Virginia on Tuesday, an encouraging result given they were hammered 6-2 by the Emiratis in the Intercontinental Cup last year. "Obviously back home in New Zealand, we're used to having a lot of the ball, a lot of possession, being on the front foot," said skipper Mario Ilich. "Coming up against these better teams, we have to adapt, we're learning every day, but I think today was a good step in the right direction for what's to come." Mediation continues between the club and New Zealand Football over how the prize money will be divided but Mitchell said he and his teammates, many of whom have had to take unpaid leave, have other immediate priorities. "We've been in hard competitions before and somehow this team keeps doing it," he said. "We come from behind, we win games, we want to show the world that that's who we are."
