Super Rugby Pacific team namings: Cameron back ahead of schedule for Canes

Brett Cameron is back ahead of schedule for the Hurricanes, due to come off the bench in their Friday night clash with the Highlanders in Wellington. It was thought that the one-test All Black would be missing the entire Super Rugby Pacific season but has made a remarkable recovery from a serious knee injury.
Ngane Punivai and Bailyn Sullivan start on the wings for the Canes after Kini Naholo's season was ended last weekend with injury.
Meanwhile, the Highlanders welcome back Jona Nareki, Sosefo Kautai and Tanielu Tele'a, while a reshuffle in the loose forwards sees Sean Withy move to number eight. Veveni Lasaqa starts at openside with TK Howden on the blind.
Scott Barrett is out for the Crusaders for their game against the Waratahs with a thumb injury, he's expected back within a fortnight. Codie Taylor is also rested, so that means Quinten Strange gets the call up at lock and Ioane Moananu comes back in to start at hooker. George Bell returns from injury to the bench, and Johnny McNicholl shoots straight from the wider training squad into the number 15 jersey after Will Jordan's injury.
Patrick Pellegrini is back at first five for Moana Pasifika for their crunch match against the Blues, which will go a long way to determining which of the two teams makes the play-offs. Samiuela Moli and Sione Havili Talitui come back onto the bench.
The Tuipulotu brothers, Patrick and Tito, will line up against each other for the first time at Super Rugby Pacific level. Caleb Clarke makes a welcome return to the Blues on the left wing, also Adrian Choat starts at blindside in place the injured Anton Segner.

Ryan Fox wins Canadian Open and the All Whites stop by to watch after Canadian Shield game Photo: Collage/Photosport Golfer Ryan Fox was closing in on a second PGA Tour win and the All Whites had just claimed one of their biggest victories in more than a decade - both things happened in Toronto, Canada - so it makes sense that New Zealand sporting stars crossed paths far from home. Eight All Whites, who are also handy with a golf club, were at TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley to watch Fox win the Canadian Open in a play off with American Sam Burns. All Whites captain Chris Wood said he "was a lot more nervous watching" Fox win the title than he is playing football. "You can't control anything," Wood said of being a spectator to the big moment. "And seeing a fellow Kiwi doing so well it was exciting to see, he's done fantastically well and having that opportunity to be there and watch that bit of history for him and qualify for the US Open and things like that, it's fantastic. "He was a gentleman and gave us time after after his round, to speak to us and let us in on a little bit of information and how he played and things like that." The All Whites' trip to the golf was fully signed off by coach Darren Bazeley. "I think it was a great opportunity. On a day after a game we go through pretty good process with recoveries, so they spent all morning going through recovery process with the guys and they had an opportunity to go and follow the final round and Ryan being there doing so well I think it was great. "They were very well looked after, which was nice, and got themselves on the TV, which was cool. "I think that's part of our culture, following wherever we are in the world, finding and following Kiwis and connecting. It's a big part of what we try and do is connecting, so it was a good day." Would Fox be in the stands at the All Whites' next Canadian Shield game against Ukraine? "Unfortunately, he had to fly straight out to the US Open," Wood said. "He said he would have liked to but he has a bigger fish to fry this week and hopefully he can do some damage in the US Open this week." All Whites secure best win in more than a decade
The All Whites had their best win in more than a decade when they beat a country ranked 45 places higher than them in the world rankings on Sunday. The one nil victory over the world number 41 Ivory Coast was New Zealand's first win over a team ranked that high since 2010. New Zealand's next challenge is to back up that success against the world number 25 Ukraine tomorrow morning. Sports reporter Felicity Reid spoke to Lisa Owen.

Moana Pasifika snap up blockbusting former All Black midfielder
Former All Blacks midfielder Ngani Laumape has signed for Moana Pasifika for the next two Super Rugby seasons. The 32-year-old is fresh off three seasons with the Kobelco Kobe Steelers in the Japan Rugby League One competition, where he played alongside Moana Pasifika captain Ardie Savea. 'One of the reasons I came back was to be part of the first Moana Pasifika team to win the competition,' Laumape said. 'Obviously, there has to be a lot of hard work and a lot of things behind the scenes that we'll have to do — but why can't our culture and our people do something great in this competition? 'That's pretty inspiring and definitely motivating.' ADVERTISEMENT The powerful Laumape, who played 15 Tests for the All Blacks between 2017 and 2020, is a former New Zealand secondary schools representative who returned to rugby union after playing two seasons for the Warriors. Moana Pasifika head coach Fa'alogo Tana Umaga said: 'We're excited to welcome Ngani to our Moana Pasifika aiga. Ngani is a talented player who has proven himself on the international stage. From his experience in league, the All Blacks, as well as in France and in Japan, he has an open and mature outlook on the game. 'Ngani is also a great person who has done well for himself and his family, and I know he'll be able to integrate smoothly into our team environment.' The signing of Laumape, who is of Tongan descent, followed a large cleanout of Moana Pasifka's squad after they finished in seventh place, narrowly missing this season's playoffs. They now have 30 of 38 positions in their squad filled for the 2026 season.
