Grim weather warning for millions of Aussies

Grim weather warning for millions of Aussies

Yahoo23-03-2025

Residents in northern New South Wales as well as much of Queensland are bracing for yet another bout of heavy rainfall as they continue to clean up from the destruction of ex-tropical Cyclone Alfred.
Multiple flood warnings are currently in place across Queensland, The Bureau of Meteorology warned, with authorities closely monitoring rising river levels in already saturated regions.
Flood watch warnings are in place for parts of the Lake Eyre Basin Rivers and Gulf of Carpentaria Rivers, as well as minor flood warnings for the Herbert, Tully, Murray, Ross, and Bohle Rivers.
Residents in Townsville have also been urged to stay alert, as heavy rainfall is forecasted to continue in the region well into next week.
The Bureau of Meteorology, predicted the town would see rainfall totals of 30 to 50 millimetres over the weekend and into early next week.
Meanwhile, those in Lismore, in northern NSW, are set to endure more wet weather in the coming days.
Forecasts predict a high chance of showers in the region, which should continue well into the week, and are expected to intensify on Thursday and Friday.
Many communities still recovering from the cyclone's aftermath are now facing the risk of renewed flooding, with the potential for rivers to rise rapidly.
With the ground already saturated from the cyclone, emergency services are urging residents to stay vigilant, especially in flood-prone areas.
Authorities are once again reminding motorists not to drive through floodwaters and to keep an eye on weather alerts as conditions continue to evolve.
The combination of persistent showers and already swollen waterways means that localised flash flooding is a possibility in low-lying areas.
Residents are encouraged to stay up to date with the latest forecasts and warnings.

Rainy and stormy weather moves into New Mexico to start the week

Widespread showers and thunderstorms will move into New Mexico to start the work week. Thunderstorm chances will continue for parts of the state through Wednesday. Moisture ahead of a large low pressure system has been bringing isolated showers and thunderstorms across New Mexico Sunday afternoon. A couple of these storms have turned severe along and east of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. It's also another hot day in places that have stayed sunny and dry. Rain and a few thunderstorms will actually continue overnight in western and central New Mexico as the aforementioned low pressure system moves into the state. Through the morning, isolated to scattered showers and storm chances will continue across most of the state. Temperatures will be much cooler across most of New Mexico Monday, but with some daytime heating, widespread showers and thunderstorms will develop. A couple of these could bring heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and small hail. There is a risk of burn scar flash flooding Monday as well. On and off showers and storms are likely for the Albuquerque Metro and much of New Mexico. Some of these storms will continue into late Monday night. Drier weather briefly moves in Tuesday morning, but isolated storms will return in the northern half of the state Tuesday afternoon, along with western pats of New Mexico. Temperatures will warm up a slightly in the western half of the state, while the eastern half will see cooler temperatures with a backdoor cold front moving in. Another low pressure system will cross New Mexico from the west on Wednesday, bringing scattered showers and storms to the northern half of New Mexico once again. Some of these storms could drop heavy rainfall. Temperatures will again be cooler across most of the state Wednesday afternoon. Drier weather quickly returns Thursday as temperatures start a warming trend. It will feel a lot more like summer again next weekend as the dry weather sticks around.
