Mizoram begin Swami Vivekananda Men's U20 NFC Group D campaign with a big win
Narainpur (Chhattisgarh), May 14 (UNI) Mizoram, playing their first match in Group D, earned a comfortable 4-0 victory against Maharashtra at the Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama Ground here
on Wednesday.
Lalhruaitluanga opened the scoring in the 14th minute with a shot from distance, Laldawngzuala added a second, a few minutes later. F Malsawmtluanga curled in a free-kick from around 30 yards out just after the hour mark to make it three.
Stephen Ngurchhuanmawia scored in the second half injury time to earn a big win for Mizoram, who now have three points from one game, and have gone second in the group.
Tripura climbed to the top of Group D in the Swami Vivekananda Men's U-20 National Football Championship after defeating Himachal Pradesh 2-1 in a tightly contested match. All goals were scored in the first half.
Naba Kishore Singha scored both the goals for Tripura. His first was a finish at the near post after he was played in behind the Himachal defence via an aerial through ball from the left in the 11th minute.
Aryan Thakur levelled things up for Himachal Pradesh in the 21st minute with a deftly-placed left-footed strike, but Naba Kishore scored the decisive goal, a tap-in from inside the six-yard box, to
win the match for his side.
Tripura are now top of Group D, having earned six points from their two matches. Maharashtra are third, while Jharkhand and Himachal Pradesh occupy the respective bottom two spots.

Paris, June 6 (UNI) The era of the 'Big Three' may be coming to an end - but the threat has not disappeared. Players born in the 1990s were restricted to just two Grand Slam singles titles between them as Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic diced up the major prizes for more than two decades. Two players born after 2000 have captured seven major titles between them. That is the current top two of Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, who are on a collision course in Paris. But Novak Djokovic still looms large as the 'Gen Z' players look to add to their hauls. The 38-year-old faces Sinner - who is 15 years younger than him - in Friday's first French Open semi-final, having become the oldest man to reach the last four since 1968, the BBC reported. "I think at the moment he's a bit underrated," world number three Alexander Zverev said after falling to Djokovic in four sets on Wednesday. "I think a lot of people count him out already, but this year he's had wins over Carlos at the Australian Open, he has beaten me at the French Open. "Forget the age. Aryna Sabalenka ends Swiatek's Paris reign
Paris, June 5 (UNI) World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka shattered Iga Swiatek's 26-match winning streak at Roland-Garros on Thursday, outlasting the four-time champion 7-6(1), 4-6, 6-0 in a pulsating semifinal under the roof of Court Philippe-Chatrier. With the win, Sabalenka stormed into her third consecutive Grand Slam final and her maiden title clash at the Paris major, assuring fans of a new Roland-Garros women's champion on Saturday. In a high-octane showdown between the two dominant forces of recent years, Sabalenka brought firepower and composure, especially in the decisive third set, where she didn't concede a single game or commit an unforced error. 'Honestly it feels incredible, but also, I understand that the job is not done yet,' Sabalenka said after registering only her fifth win in 13 meetings against the Polish star.
