Lesley Timby, from the UK, took the time to share her clever gardening hack on social media.
She first showed the fence she was dealing with, which had been painted black.
Unfortunately for Lesley, green algae kept growing all over the structure even after cleaning and painting it.
So, instead of repeating the same job this year, she decided to switch things up and cover the fence with shower curtains.
Lesley wrote: "Job for today.
"After spending lots of cash on black duck back fence paint only for it to keep turning green after winter, I decided to give shower curtains a go.
"Looks amazing."
The shower curtain hack became popular last year and is still going strong.
Take one look at the #showercurtaingarden trend on TikTok and you'll find over 93 million videos with people sharing their take on it.
And it's easy to see why the trend is so popular, if your fence is damaged it can cost an average of £30-40 to replace it, whereas a shower curtain costs just £10.
DIY Privacy Fences: Affordable Garden Solutions
Lesley used two shower curtains to cover her fence, and both displayed a picture of two blue chairs and a table with large matching vases on either side with giant shrubs inside.
It was finished off with a matching blue window printed on it and two lanterns.
Lesley was pleased with the transformation, which meant she no longer had to worry about the algae lurking underneath.
People were quick to take to the comments on the post shared in the group, Gardening On A Budget Official.
How to get algae off fences
ABS Fencing shared a list of do's and don'ts when it comes to cleaning green algae off your fence. Don't use household mould or mildew remover sprays as these are generally intended for use on hard surfaces indoor.
Don't use bleach in the garden, it kills a lot more than the mould.
Don't try sanding back the top surface of the wood, as algae will just regrow back.
Don't bother with power hosing – that only opens up the timber grain and allows more water inside, making the problem worse down the line.
Do use white vinegar mixed with hot water in a spray bottle and work it in with a brush, leave for 30 mins or more, then hose down.
Do repaint when dry with good quality fence paint.
They loved the look of Lesley's new garden feature and others were inspired to do the same.
One person wrote: "Love it."
Another commented: "Just done mine as well."
"Looks fab that. We did it with bamboo shower curtains but I love yours more ," penned a third.
Someone else added: 'Just done mine as well."

My algae-covered fence panels went from green to brown overnight with a £12 Wickes buy you just have to spray and leave
It's quick and easy to use WOOD YOU BELIEVE IT? WOOD YOU BELIEVE IT? My algae-covered fence panels went from green to brown overnight with a £12 Wickes buy you just have to spray and leave Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) AN AFFORDABLE, easy-to-use product could help keep your garden in tip-top shape this summer. The fence cleaner will help ensure you can be garden proud as we approach the summer months. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 3 The KilrockPRO Wood, Deck & Fence Cleaner is available for £12 from Wickes Credit: Wicks 3 One reviewer showed off how effective the product had been on their fence Credit: Wickes What's more, the product is available for just £12 at Wickes. The KilrockPRO Wood, Deck & Fence Cleaner has been praised as a quick and easy solution to your fence-related problems. A product description on the Wickes website reads: "The KilrockPRO Wood, Deck & Fence Cleaner cleans, brightens and rejuvenates outdoor wooden surfaces." It can be used for a wide range of purposes, making the £12 price tag seem like even better value for money. The cleaner can be used to tackle dirt and stains caused by algae, mould and mildew on fences, wood, decking, sheds, cladding, shake shingles, and other wood surfaces. With 5 litres of concentrate, it can make up to 50 litres of usable product when diluted, ensuring you have enough to keep your fences spotless throughout the summer. Once diluted, the formula can be applied using a spray or a brush. For bigger areas of growth, a spray can help speed up the process, while a brush might help get those hard to reach spots in between fence panels. The solution can then be left to work its magic, making for a quick and easy application process. After waiting for a suitable length of time, according to the product's instruction manual, the product can then be washed off. My garden was looking so old and the patio was broken - now it's a lush oasis and people can't believe how little I spent Reviews for the product were generally positive, with one shopper writing: "After a day the green algae was fading and a couple of days after that it's no longer there. They added: "Moral of the story - use Kilrock fence cleaner first, on a dry day without any threat of rain for at least 6 hours and then leave it for 3 days or so to work it's magic. "It will save you days of time and effort!" Another customer said they use a dilution ratio of one to four, left it for 24 hours, before rewashing it which has meant their "decking has come up like new." One reviewer posted a photo of their fence, clearly showing the difference between the algae covered panels and the new and improved clean fencing. They wrote: "From what I can tell, people who have had trouble and left poor reviews are expecting instant results. It works overnight - spray and leave it alone!" Others were less positive, saying that the product had not worked as effectively they've hoped. A couple of lower rated comments suggested that soapy water and a stiff broom would have done just as good a job. 3 The cleaner claims to prevent regrowth for several months Credit: Getty The diluted formula is also safe on plants and grass, as it doesn't contain bleach or acid, meaning the rest of your garden won't be ruined in the process. Shoppers are advised to test the solution on a small "inconspicuous" area before applying to the rest of the fence. Once cleaned, the product description claims that it "provides long lasting surface protection that deters regrowth for months."

Shoppers run to Tesco for £19.50 ‘chuck on' summer dress that is ‘gorgeous on' and comes in three colours
IF you're searching for the perfect summer dress that you can just chuck on and feel instantly stylish, you'll want to leg it to Tesco. The supermarket's in-house fashion label, F&F, is renowned for its stylish buys at affordable prices. 4 4 4 4 And fashion fans have insisted the new strapless midi dress is a must-have for the warmer summer months. And the best part? You'll get change from a £20 note. The £19.50 frock boasts a ribbed, fitted bandeau top and flowy skirt with pockets. It can easily be dressed down with flip flops or Birkenstock sandals, or paired with heels for a fancier look. The supermarket find ranges from a size 6 to 22 and comes in three colours - khaki, black and stone. But it's not available on the website so you'll need to be quick if you want to get your hands on it. According to Tesco workers at one local store, the F&F buy is "gorgeous" addition to any wardrobe. In a short TikTok clip, they said: "Gorgeous new cream colour added to our strapless dress range. Mixed material and pockets on skirt." And fashion fans have been left in a frenzy over the dress, which is great for avoiding tan lines. "I bought this today it's gorgeous on. My store has every colour", one gushed. A second wrote: "Just bought this because I just know it'll be impossible to get by the time I go away." A third chimed in: "This is so flattering on! I just need a tan now!!" A fourth said: "Ummmm hello TESCO you superstar - thanks for providing this dress, [it] is just sensational!" "£19.50 for that dress?? Noooo!! Stunning", insisted a fifth. But a sixth cried: "I can't find these anywhere! not even online! I neeeeeed." Is supermarket fashion the new high street? DEPUTY Fashion Editor Abby McHale weighs in: The supermarkets have really upped their game when it comes to their fashion lines. These days, as you head in to do your weekly food shop you can also pick up a selection of purse-friendly, stylish pieces for all the family. Tesco has just announced a 0.7 per cent increase in the quarter thanks to a 'strong growth in clothing' and M&S has earnt the title of the number one destination for womenswear on the high street. Asda's clothing line George has made £1.5 million for the supermarket in 2023, 80 per cent of Sainsbury's clothes sold at full price rather than discounted and Nutmeg at Morrisons sales are also up 2 per cent in the past year. So what is it about supermarket fashion that is becoming so successful? Apart from the clothing actually being affordable, it's good quality too - with many being part of schemes such as the Better Cotton Initiative. A lot of the time they keep to classic pieces that they know will last the customer year after year. Plus because they buy so much stock they can turn around pieces quickly and buy for cheaper because of the volumes. More supermarket bargains Eagle-eyed shoppers have fallen in love with Tu's Yellow Striped Tie Detail Midaxi Tea Dress, which is priced at £28. Describing it online, the Sainsbury's team say: "Perfect for summer occasions, our yellow tea dress has been designed with puff sleeves, an elasticated waist with shirred detailing, finished with a tie fastening at the neckline for a touch of elegance. "Cut to a flattering, midaxi length. Wear with suede sandals and golden accessories." The dress is already sold out online so you'll need to be quick to get your hands on it in store. If you're self-conscious about a mum tum or your upper arms, delighted fashion fans say this is definitely one for you. One said: "Absolutely beautiful dress... even prettier in person. It's a lovely light fabric to wear in summer and feels very flattering on my plus size body. "The pockets are an added bonus! Very pleased with this purchase." A second wrote: "Bought this because I was drawn to the colour for the summer. "Love the length of the skirt and the fit at the waist - really flattering!"
