Police search for driver who killed bicyclist and fled scene on a North Carolina road
Police asked the public for help Saturday to find the driver who immediately fled after hitting and killing a bicyclist on a North Carolina road Friday night.
Donald Steven Ricker, a 58-year-old Newton resident, died at the scene, State Highway Patrol Trooper Christopher Casey said.
Ricker was riding east on U.S. 70 near 4th Street SW in Conover when the driver hit him between 8:45 p.m. and 9 p.m., near Nagano Japanese Restaurant, Casey said.
Witness descriptions of the driver's vehicle varied. According to a State Highway Patrol news release, it is believed to be either a 2018, 2019 or 2020 Ford F-150, F-250 Super Duty or a Ford Mustang.
Casey urged anyone involved in the crash or who saw something in the area of the wreck to call the Highway Patrol at 828-466-5500.

According to the state highway patrol, at around 12:15 a.m. the driver of a Honda sedan was traveling south on the northbound side of Interstate 85 near mile marker 75 when it struck a Toyota sedan head-on and then a Ford SUV. This just adds to the high number that we are experiencing currently in Spartanburg County,' said Charles Clevenger, Spartanburg County Coroner. 'I cannot stress enough that all of the motoring residents and visitors of Spartanburg County should obey all traffic laws, pay attention to every element of their responsibility while driving, wear their seatbelt and drive defensively.
