2 people found dead at Bryce Canyon National Park after apparent fall: Reports
Two people died at Bryce Canyon National Park in southern Utah after they fell from a viewing area, police said, according to local news reports.
According to a press release from the Garfield County Sheriff's Office shared by local news, tourists spotted the bodies of two people on April 29. The bodies were seen below Inspiration Point inside the park.
Police said they currently do not know how the two people fell, but believe they had crossed over safety railings either late on April 28 or early April 29, ABC4 reported.
According to ABC4, the two people were identified by officials as 45-year-old Matthew Nannen and 58-year-old Bailee Crane.
Officials said that the two people were living in a U-Haul rental but were last known to be permanent Florida residents before traveling to Utah "after spending a significant amount of time in Arizona."
Neither the Garfield County Sheriff's Office nor the National Park Service immediately returned USA TODAY's request for comment on April 30.
Bryce Canyon National Park is located in southern Utah, about 140 miles east of St. George, Utah.
Other recent deaths at Bryce Canyon National Park
In June 2024, a 78-year-old ranger, Tom Lorig, died due to injuries he sustained after he tripped and fell while on duty.
Tom Lorig was working with park visitors, directing them to a shuttle bus at Bryce Canyon's annual Astronomy Festival, when he fell and struck his head on a large rock, the National Park Service said in a news release.
A visitor found Lorig unresponsive and immediately alerted a law enforcement ranger. Park rangers, medically trained bystanders, and local EMS personnel provided Lorig with initial lifesaving care but were unable to revive him, NPS said.
In 2023, Jeanne Roblez Howell, 64, an Arizona teacher considered "an experienced and enthusiastic hiker," was found dead in Campbell Canyon, after being missing for days.

Daycare employee charged with sexually abusing children, documents say

Charges are allegations only. All arrested persons are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. MURRAY, Utah () — A Magna man has been charged with sexually abusing children at the daycare where he was an employee. It is currently unknown whether he is still employed at the daycare. Shawn David Beebe, 38, has been charged with seven counts of first-degree aggravated sexual abuse of a child. According to a detective with the Murray Police Department, on Feb. 19, 2025, the detective was made aware that a daycare employee may have been sexually abusing children. He took reports from the parents of three children who told their parents about what happened. Three children, all aged six years old or younger, told their parents that Beebe had touched them inappropriately while at daycare. One child, in a Children's Justice Center interview, said that they didn't tell their mother what happened because they were afraid Beebe would be fired. A warrant has been issued for Beebe's arrest; he is not in custody at this time. The daycare has not been identified by officials, and ABC4 is investigating where he was or is employed. There is no further information at this time. Electric scooters pose dangerous threat to St. George children, police say

ST. GEORGE, Utah () — With summer right around the corner, police say St. George kids are already back on their electric scooters in full force. 'It doesn't take very much.' Sergeant Jeremy Needles with the St. George Police Department told ABC4. Police say kids as young as 8 years old have been spotted on electric scooters, which can pose a real danger for young kids, especially when riding near cars. 'When you come up to an intersection, you need to make sure that you, as the scooter rider, stop and make eye contact with the drivers,' Needles said. 9-year-old dead after golf cart crash in St. George , a local company that films accidents at Utah's most dangerous intersections, caught one such accident on camera. The incident, which took place on June 3 at the intersection of Riverside Drive and Mall Drive in St. George, shows a rider approaching the crosswalk; however, a driver continues through the intersection, colliding with a young person's scooter. 'As a driver, look both ways, even if you're making rent or double check that sidewalk, double check the right side because there could be a runner, a bicyclist, or a scooter operator that could have snuck into your area before you can make that turn,' Needles told ABC4. Police say scooters are not allowed to go faster than 15 miles per hour and are not allowed on roads with speed limits about 25 miles per hour. According to St. George Police, children under nine should never be operating electric scooters, and teens between nine and 15 years old should be closely monitored. Celebrities tell all about aging, marriage and Beyoncé in these 10 bingeable memoirs "That lays open what I think 'Dateline' has exposed over the years, which is one of the worst epidemics we have: the epidemic of spousal abuse, of women being harmed by men. And I hate to say it, but that's really the basis of so much of the crime that occurs," Morrison said. Holt also told USA TODAY that the show's stories are "relatable" because "you realize that people that do bad things could be across the street from you, their kids could go to school with yours." "A lot of the people in these stories were good people, up until the moment they weren't, or they were living normal lives like ours and then one day they became a victim of something really horrible," Holt said.
