Flights to Middle East cancelled after Qatar airstrikes

The Sun17 hours ago

SEPANG: Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced the cancellation of several Malaysian flights to the Middle East following airstrikes on a US military base in Qatar earlier today.
Loke confirmed that a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) was issued due to safety concerns for aircraft flying over the conflict zone. 'The NOTAM was issued because there was a war conflict... so of course there was a risk to air travel,' he said during a press conference.
He added that no airline is permitted to operate in the closed airspace. Airlines have been instructed to implement mitigation measures to safeguard passenger safety and flight operations.

Malaysia Promotes Higher Education In Jakarta Via MyEduTour 2025

By Mohd Iswandi Kasan Anuar JAKARTA, June 24 (Bernama) -- Malaysia has embarked on a promotional effort in Jakarta aimed at attracting more Indonesian students to further their studies at institutions of higher learning in Malaysia – and in the process, forging stronger people-to-people relations in both countries. The MyEduTour: Discovery Malaysia 2025 programme, organised by Education Malaysia Indonesia (EMI) — which is the official representative of the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia — along with Tourism Malaysia Jakarta and the Malaysian Embassy, was held at the embassy ground. bootstrap slideshow The Malaysian Ambassador to Indonesia, Datuk Syed Mohamed Hasrin Tengku Hussin, said the initiative was part of the country's soft diplomacy effort featuring five public institutions of higher education, five private institutions of higher education, and a travel agency offering travel packages based around education. 'It is hoped that this programme may contribute to closer exchanges between Malaysians and Indonesians and forge stronger societal ties,' he said, adding that some 11,000 Indonesian students are currently enrolled in study programmes in Malaysia. The programme combines education and tourism for Indonesians and is in line with Malaysia's effort to become a regional hub for higher education. The embassy's Minister Counsellor (Education), Hasnul Faizal Hushin Amri, said the platform enables universities in Malaysia to offer academic programmes through interaction sessions and educational visit packages. 'The seminar provided detailed information on the programmes on offer, and this helped educators and representatives of universities to make the best choices for their students,' he said. MyEduTour is an ongoing effort to strengthen cooperation in education and tourism based on long-standing cultural and historical relations between Malaysia and Indonesia, he added.

Loke: Airlines must take precautionary measures if certain airspaces are risky

SEPANG: Transport Minister Anthony Loke has confirmed that several flights from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) were cancelled after some Gulf nations closed their airspaces following an Iranian strike on a United States military base in Qatar. "There were indeed several affected flights, and I was informed that a Batik Air flight to Dubai had to turn back when it reached the Indian Ocean due to the airspace closure. "Affected airlines must implement mitigation measures such as providing accommodation and other necessary arrangements for passengers while waiting for the airspace to reopen," he told reporters after the launch of the Transport Expo Asia (TXA) 2025 exhibition and conference. Also present were Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Hasbi Habibollah and the ministry's secretary-general Datuk Jana Santhiran Muniayan. Loke said the sudden airspace closure had not only affected local flights but also impacted foreign carriers, with a Notice to Airmen already issued. "Our position is that airlines must take precautionary steps if there are any risks. "If the airspace is closed, flights to the affected area cannot proceed and must either be turned back or cancelled," he said. Earlier, it was reported that at least 61 pilgrims were stranded for more than four hours at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) after their flight to Jeddah was cancelled at the last minute.

TH wins Saudi Diamond Award for haj excellence

KUALA LUMPUR: Tabung Haji (TH) earned global recognition after receiving the Diamond Award from the Saudi Haj and Umrah Ministry for its outstanding management of Malaysian pilgrims during the 2025 haj season. This marks the first time TH has received the top honour at the annual Labaytum Awards, presented during the Haj and Umrah Services Conference and Exhibition in Makkah — the most exclusive accolade presented by the Saudi government to exemplary haj management delegations worldwide. "We are very proud to be able to set Malaysia as a benchmark for haj management excellence on the world stage," said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar in a statement by TH. TH chairman Tan Sri Abdul Rashid Hussain said the award proves TH's commitment to innovation and best practices, and affirmed that the agency is determined to further enhance their service quality in the coming years. Group managing director and chief executive officer Mustakim Mohamad said the award was a result of efforts to improve the quality of haj management and strong cooperation with Saudi authorities and local agencies. The statement said that TH's win was based on operational excellence in areas such as technology, logistics, healthcare, religious guidance and pilgrim satisfaction, which exceeded 95 per cent.
