East Baton Rouge prison employee arrested on battery charge fired
BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — An East Baton Rouge Parish Prison employee was fired after being accused of abusing her dating partner.
Alezsha Evans, 31, was placed on administrative leave on June 8 after an investigation into alleged abuse. During the investigation, detectives learned Evans accused her dating partner of hitting her, which resulted in their arrest.
According to an affidavit, Evans allegedly choked and struck the victim with a whip, leaving whelps on their arm and a scratch on their chest after an argument outside of their home on June 1. The victim told detectives that Evans took their glasses off their face and broke them.
Investigators said the neighbor's doorbell camera captured the incident, which supported the victim's story and identified Evans. The victim showed detectives photos of their injuries that were dated June 1.
Evans was arrested and booked into prison on charges of domestic abuse battery and simple criminal damage to property.
The sheriff's office said she was hired to work in corrections on May 28. She was fired after a review of the evidence.

Deputy fires gun at oncoming driver during chase, WBRSO says
BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — The West Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office was involved in a chase after a failed traffic stop on Wednesday, June 11. WBRSO said a traffic stop was initiated around 8 p.m. on I-10 East. The driver of the vehicle did not stop, and pursuit ensued into East Baton Rouge Parish. Assumption Parish man charged with government benefits fraud
BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Agents investigated and arrested an Assumption Parish man accused of Medicaid fraud for multiple years. Attorney General Liz Murrill announced Lenroy Brown, 53, of Paincourtville, was arrested Tuesday, June 10. An investigation started after Louisiana Bureau of Investigation agents received a complaint from the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) on Dec. 11, 2023, regarding an allegation of Medicaid fraud. According to an affidavit, Brown earned a total of $169,772.67 from April 2021 to March 2023 in wages that weren't disclosed to LDH and fraudulently obtained $16,758.03 in Medicaid benefits. Brown was arrested and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on a charge of government benefits fraud. 10 Chinese nationals detained after ICE operation at Baton Rouge massage parlors
BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents detained 10 Chinese nationals Wednesday after an operation at nine Baton Rouge massage parlors. The federal agency said agents searched the locations after getting criminal search warrants for prostitution and pandering that led to the seizure of bulk cash and evidence. According to ICE, the women were detained as agents work on identification and removal processing.
