MP cabinet exempts 'Mandi-Shulk' on Toor dal imported from outside state
Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) [India], June 10 (ANI): Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Tuesday chaired a cabinet meeting held at Mantralaya in Bhopal on Tuesday and the council of ministers decided to fully exempt 'Mandi-Shulk' on toor dal (Pigeon Pea) imported from outside the state. The cabinet also approved a proposal worth Rs 21,630 crore for the Chief Minister Majra-Tola Road Scheme, which aims to provide all-weather connectivity to remote settlements in the state. The scheme will be implemented in two phases, from 2025-26 to 2034-35, covering approximately 30,900 kilometres of road construction. The state government will fund the project, and the priority will be given to settlements with a minimum of 20 households and a population of 100 or more. A priority list for the same will be prepared based on population density and consultation with local MPs, MLAs, and Zila Panchayat members. The council of ministers further granted in principle approval for constructing four working women hostels with a total capacity of 350 seats in Jhabua, Singrauli, Dewas, and Narmadapuram under the SASCI (Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment) 2024-25 scheme. The project, to be implemented in a public-private partnership (PPP) mode, will cost Rs 40.59 crores. Additionally, the cabinet approved the formation of a 'District Development Advisory Committee' in all districts, chaired by the Chief Minister, to prepare a roadmap for district development and long-term plans. This follows instructions from the 2025-26 budget speech. The committee will include the district in-charge minister as vice-chairman, MPs, all district MLAs, the mayor or municipal chairman of the district headquarters, the district panchayat chairman, all janpad chairmen, and 20 representatives from fields like industry, trade, progressive farming, social service, medicine, and law. Along with this, the collector will serve as the member secretary. The committee aims to formulate long-term development plans based on public, representative, and stakeholder inputs, promote traditional skills under the 'Vocal for Local' principle, and enhance district prosperity. It will also suggest ways to better implement government schemes, formalize local innovations, and provide recommendations for employment generation, industry, trade, water conservation, exports, agriculture, and minerals. Piyush Goyal invites Swiss firms to join India's USD 30 trillion economy push by 2047
Bern [Switzerland], June 10 (ANI): Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal addressed Swiss industry leaders and innovators on Tuesday at the prestigious Swissmem Industry Day in Switzerland. Highlighting India's transformative growth story and vast opportunities for collaboration, Goyal extended a warm invitation to the Swiss business community to be active partners in India's journey towards becoming a USD 30-35 trillion economy by 2047, the Ministry of Commerce & Industry said in a release. Speaking at an event, Goyal said, 'I come to meet you with the aspirations of 1.4 billion Indians who dream as high as your towering Alps and who desire a better future. I come with an arm of friendship to the talented engineers, innovators, and entrepreneurs of Switzerland.' In a symbolic gesture of partnership, Goyal proposed the creation of a dedicated Swiss Enclave in India--a zone tailored for Swiss businesses--to provide comfort and a sense of home for Swiss enterprises looking to establish a base in India. As per the release, the Minister highlighted India's remarkable transformation--from a USD 270 billion economy 30 years ago to a USD 4 trillion economy today--and its ambition to grow further to USD 30-35 trillion as the nation approaches 100 years of independence. He noted India's youthful demographic with an average age of 28.4 years and emphasised that the nation will continue to remain young and vibrant for decades to come. Goyal underlined the advantages of India as a trusted, rule-of-law-based, and democratic country where Swiss businesses can operate without fear of discrimination. 'Democracy, demographic dividend, decisive leadership, and diversity make India a dependable partner,' he said. Referring to the India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA), Goyal termed it a 'Trust and Efficiency Partnership'--a relationship built on mutual confidence and complementarity. He expressed optimism that this partnership would mark the beginning of a new era of cooperation between India and the four EFTA nations, opening new avenues for trade, investment, and innovation. 'I particularly invite Switzerland's SME sector to witness India's remarkable evolution over the last decade. This will give you the confidence we aspire for,' stated the Minister. He highlighted that in the past 10 years, India has added 80 new airports, including a new one in partnership with Zurich Airport. 'Our port capacity has doubled, and national highways and expressways are now comparable to those in Germany. We've also added 104 new inland waterways and doubled our power generation capacity, with solar energy capacity growing 50 times. The government's annual expenditure of over $125 billion on infrastructure creates a powerful multiplier effect for India's growth story.' India's robust education ecosystem was also highlighted. The Minister pointed out that the country produces the highest number of STEM graduates globally, 43 per cent of whom are women. 'This talent pool, combined with scale and speed, makes India an ideal investment destination,' he said. Quoting World Bank data, Goyal noted that extreme poverty in India has fallen to just 5 per cent, down by 270 million people in the last 11 years, and is expected to be eliminated in the near future. He described India's growth model as a blend of welfare and consumption-led growth, backed by investments in manufacturing and technology. 'India today stands ready and willing to welcome global partners. We are a country on the move, full of opportunities,' he said. Goyal concluded by extending a personal invitation to the Swiss business community to visit India: 'Come discover India. Come experience Incredible India. "We'll work multifold to build on a decade of progress:" Manohar Lal Khattar on vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047
New Delhi [India], June 10 (ANI): Union Minister of Housing & Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal Khatter, on Tuesday, outlined the Modi government's vision for the year 2047. He emphasised the government's significant strides in economic and infrastructural development over the past decade. During the press conference, Khattar said, 'The Modi govt has completed 11 years, and with the targets set, we have 22 years left to achieve them. By 2047, we aim for a Viksit Bharat, and in the coming years, we'll work multifold, building on the progress made in the last decade. Viksit Bharat means reaching a significant global stature. To boost the economy, we need to enhance trade, industries, living standards, and the power sector, which plays a crucial role in driving all sectors.' Earlier, marking the occasion, the Union government also released a comprehensive e-book detailing achievements across various sectors over the past 11 years. The year 2025 marks 11 years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government. The book said that these 11 years have been dedicated to bringing about development that is inclusive, progressive, and sustainable. 'The government under Prime Minister Modi has been steadfast in its commitment to creating equity and opportunity for all citizens,' it added. 'PM Modi has brought the politics of development - Vikasvaad into the mainstream, making it the focal point around which political discourse and policy action now revolve,' it reads. Meanwhile, highlighting the growth in the power sector, Khattar noted, 'If I talk about the numbers, in 2013-14, the peak demand for power was 130 gigawatts, and in 2024-25, it reached 250 gigawatts - almost double. We expect the peak demand to reach up to 270 gigawatts in 2025-26.' The Union Minister also announced a pioneering initiative to standardize air conditioning temperatures. He stated, 'Regarding air conditioning standards, a new provision is being implemented soon. The temperature standardization for ACs will be set between 20C to 28C, meaning we won't be able to cool below 20C or warm above 28C. This is a first-of-its-kind experiment, aiming to standardize temperature settings.' This came after the persisting heatwave condition across the country. (ANI)
