A 31-year-old man is dead after crashing his dirt bike into a train in Erie Township, Michigan, on Saturday night, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.
The crash on Sterns Road at the Norfolk Southern railroad crossing was reported around 9:27 p.m.
The man, later identified as Jacob Buchele of Erie, Michigan, was driving a Honda CRF-250 towards the railroad crossing, which had a train passing through. The sheriff's office said the crossing gates, warning lights and bells were activated on both sides of the tracks.
Buchele drove around one of the crossing gates, collided with the train and fell from his bike, according to the sheriff's office. The train came to a controlled stop after its emergency brakes were activated.
Officials say Buchele died at the scene.
Alcohol is a factor in the crash, according to the sheriff's office, which is still under investigation.

Two of four men recaptured after breaking out of Newark ICE jail
Two of four men who broke out of an immigration jail in Newark have been recaptured, authorities said Sunday. Joel Enrique Sandoval-Lopez and Joan Sebastian Castaneda-Lozada were both caught within 72 hours of escaping, the FBI said. Sandoval-Lopez was nabbed Saturday in Passaic, sources told WNBC. The other escapees — Franklin Norberto Bautista-Reyes and Andres Felipe Pineda-Mogollon — remained on the run. The FBI announced a reward of $10,000 for tips that lead to the capture of either man. All four escaped from a controversial Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention center in Newark on Thursday. Sen. Andy Kim (D-N.J.) said there was widespread unrest at the facility the night of the escape because of overcrowding and food delays. They busted out by breaking through an interior wall, which led to an exterior wall and eventually the parking lot, according to investigators. The feds said all four men had entered the U.S. illegally and were charged with crimes at the state level. Bautista-Reyes was arrested in May in Wayne Township, N.J., on charges of aggravated assault and terroristic threats. Pineda-Mogollon was accused of petit larceny in New York City in April and residential burglary in Union, N.J., in May. The Newark facility where the men escaped from has been the site of several protests, including one that led to the arrest of Newark Mayor Ras Baraka. While charges against Baraka were eventually dropped, Rep. LaMonica McIver (D-N.J.) was accused of assaulting federal officers at the site. With News Wire Services

"Our family is so humbled by the love and outpouring from everyone," Yvette Hoffman said in the message. The Hoffmans' nephew says she jumped on her and John Hoffman's adult daughter, Hope Hoffman, to shield her from the shots. Hope Hoffman was unharmed. Yvette Hoffman says her husband was shot nine times and she was shot eight times. "John is enduring many surgeries right now and is closer every hour to being out of the woods," she said. "...We are incredibly lucky to be alive. We are gutted and devastated by the loss of Melissa and Mark. We have no words. There is never a place for this kind of political hate." Police first responded to a call of a shooting at the Hoffmans' home in Champlin, Minnesota, around 2 a.m. Saturday, according to Drew Evans, the superintendent of the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. A few miles away, Minnesota state Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband were fatally shot at their home in Brooklyn Park. Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz called the attacks politically motivated. Officials identified 57-year-old Vance Boelter as the suspect, and said he is considered armed and dangerous. The FBI is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to his arrest and conviction. Outside the Hortmans' home, Boelter left a vehicle that "looked exactly like an SUV squad car," according to Brooklyn Park Police Chief Mark Bruley. It contained an extensive list of possible targets, authorities said. There were also fliers connected to Saturday's "No Kings" protests found inside. On Sunday morning, authorities say they found a car belonging to Boelter seemingly abandoned in Sibley County along with a cowboy hat similar to one he was seen wearing after the shooting.

Colorado deputies investigating after body found near I-25
Deputies in Colorado are investigating what they called a suspicious death after a body was found near I-25. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office said a person's body was found near the interstate around 9:31 a.m. Sunday, about a half mile north of the Larkspur exit. They asked drivers to slow down and stay to the left as they passed through the area, but the flow of traffic has since been restored. At 1:40 p.m., authorities announced that the death is under investigation. Later Sunday evening, the sheriff's office provided an update, saying that it does not appear the person died of natural causes, and they consider the person's death to be suspicious. They said the coroner will determine the official cause of death. DCSO has not yet released further information on the investigation.
