Man fined RM3,000 for selling porn on Telegram

Ammar Azaruddin pleaded guilty to the sale and distribution of obscene materials when he was charged at the Kuala Lumpur magistrates' court today.
KUALA LUMPUR : A jobless man was fined RM3,000 by the magistrates' court today for distributing pornographic material on Telegram.
Magistrate Aina Azahra Arifin imposed the fine after Ammar Azaruddin pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 292(a) of the Penal Code, which relates to the sale and distribution of obscene materials.
Ammar avoided a four-month jail term by settling the fine.
According to the facts of the case, a policeman discovered a website containing links to Telegram channels promoting pornographic content on April 9.
Users were required to make a payment to access the material.
Ammar's lawyer, Siti Summaiyah Ahmad Jaafar from the National Legal Aid Foundation (YBGK), appealed for a minimum fine, stating that her client was remorseful and had vowed not to commit the offence again.
However, deputy public prosecutor Hench Goh urged the court to impose a deterrent sentence to reflect the seriousness of the offence.

PKR Youth chief makes case for accepting ‘professional' Zafrul

Kamil Munim, head of PKR Youth and an aide to party president Anwar Ibrahim, said Tengku Zafrul Aziz could offer added value to PKR. (Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : The head of PKR Youth, Kamil Munim, has stated support for accepting former Umno leader Tengku Zafrul Aziz into PKR, saying the move would boost support for the party. Kamil said PKR should be open to taking in professional figures like Tengku Zafrul; the decision would show that the party was continuing to expand its horizons as a mature party, reflecting its readiness to continue leading the nation. 'I believe that Tengku Zafrul joining PKR, which is understood to have been in discussion for more than a year, would allow us to attract support from various quarters as we build a more progressive, just and inclusive nation,' he said in a post on X. 'This is in line with PKR's commitment to politics based on ideas, expertise and integrity. Tengku Zafrul's experiences can offer some added value to PKR,' said Kamil, who is a political secretary to PKR president and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. Tengku Zafrul announced his resignation as an Umno member yesterday and stated his intention to join PKR. This ruffled some feathers within his former party, with Umno secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki warning PKR against breeding disharmony between the government allies. PKR central leadership council member Adam Adli was quoted by Malaysiakini as expressing concern that ties with Umno would become tense because of Tengku Zafrul's decision. However, PKR secretary-general Fuziah Salleh said the party will consider the input of its government allies as well as PKR's own grassroots in evaluating membership applications, including that of Tengku Zafrul.

Indian drug kingpin entered Malaysia on tourist visa, says IGP

Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said investigations are being held to determine if the man had a local network or was involved with gangs in Malaysia. (Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain has confirmed the arrest of an Indian national, allegedly the mastermind of a transnational drug ring in Kuala Lumpur, saying the man had entered Malaysia on a tourist visa. Razarudin said the 30-year-old drug kingpin was 'hiding' in a hotel in the city centre and was arrested at 1.35am on May 13 following a raid by Bukit Aman officers. He added that the man had entered the country earlier this year on a tourist pass to evade authorities, Bernama reported. 'Initial investigations found that the suspect was not involved in any drug distribution in Malaysia. However, further investigations are being held to determine if he had a local network or was involved with gangs here,' said the IGP. He added that the man was deported to India at 6.54pm on Tuesday. On Thursday, the Hindustan Times reported that Navin Chichkar was arrested in Malaysia before being deported and placed in the custody of India's Narcotics Control Bureau. Navin was said to be heading the transnational drug trafficking syndicate while in Malaysia, overseeing the shipment of cocaine from the US to India, and further distribution domestically and internationally. He allegedly absconded to Thailand before moving to Malaysia while the Interpol had issued a Red Notice for him.
