A video has gone viral online showing a man bungee jumping at the Hangzhou Qiandao Lake Huma Adventure Park in China, where it's not entirely clear if he has a safety rope attached before he makes the startling jump.
Newsweek has reached out to Hangzhou Qiandao Lake Huma Adventure Park via social media for comment.
Why It Matters
Bungee jumping is an extreme sport that involves leaping off a high platform while connected to a long elastic cord. Originally inspired by "land diving," from the island of Vanuatu, modern bungee jumping has been popular since the first commercial jump in New Zealand back in the 1980s.

Though it is an extreme sport, it is widely considered to be relatively safe, particularly when practitioners adhere to strict safety protocols. The National Center for Health Statistics reports that there is a fatality rate of one in 500,000 for both sky divers and bungee jumpers.
What To Know
A video shared on the Chinese social media platform Weibo showed staff at Hangzhou Qiandao Lake Huma Adventure Park screaming as a man bungee jumped off of a platform, and many on social media believed that he was not wearing the necessary safety rope. The video was reshared on X, formerly Twitter, where it has received over 2.8 million views.
So, what really happened?
The outlet Xiaoxiang Morning News learned that the safety rope was tied in front of the man, where it was not visible, but there was no safety issue with the bungee jumping process.
The staff were screaming because they had never seen such a "decisive jump," according to the outlet. The staff were shocked by how suddenly the man jumped.
The man himself posted a social media video after the jump where he explained what happened, explaining that he had jumped too quickly and the staff weren't prepared, adding that the angle the video was filmed at contributed to the misunderstanding, as per the Xiaoxiang Morning News.

'I Didn't Derail His Career': Kevin Owens Reveals WWE Storyline He Refused

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Kevin Owens has revealed he once rejected a significant WWE storyline pitch. The plan would have seen him introduce Damian Priest as his new best friend. Owens discussed the situation on Cody Rhodes' podcast, What Do You Wanna Talk About? He explained why he refused to go along with the proposed angle. WWE Pitched A New Alliance For Kevin Owens The creative pitch came in late 2020 during the pandemic era. At the time, Owens was in a heated feud with the Universal Champion, Roman Reigns. Speaking to Rhodes, Owens recalled how WWE officials approached him. They told him the plan was for him to get help against The Bloodline. "They come tell me, 'Well, things are kind of changing now. You're going to be introducing your new best friend to help you take on The Bloodline, because it's the numbers game,'" Owens said (H/T to Inside The Ropes). When he asked who the friend was, he was told it was Damian Priest from NXT. Owens immediately had reservations about the pairing. He cited the stark differences in their on-screen characters at the time. "I go, 'Well, I have nothing against him but no one would believe that we're best friends. We cannot be more opposite, and why? It's so random,'" Owens explained. He referred to Priest as "The archer... the guy who does the fake arrows?" He believed the pairing made no sense in the context of his intense feud with Reigns. The pitch was made about three weeks before his Last Man Standing match with Reigns at the 2021 Royal Rumble. Owens was focused on that match and felt the storyline was firing on all cylinders without the addition. Ultimately, Owens refused the pitch and the storyline never happened. He continued his feud with The Bloodline alone. Owens' 2025 has been defined by his continued war with The Bloodline and a significant injury. He started the year allied with LA Knight, challenging Solo Sikoa and Tama Tonga, which led to a violent street fight at the Backlash France event where The Bloodline was victorious. Following this, Owens entered the King of the Ring tournament, advancing to the semi-finals before being defeated by the eventual winner, GUNTHER. After the tournament, it was revealed that Owens has been working through a legitimate knee injury. He is currently on hiatus from WWE television to recover from his injury. That's the word from "Top Gun: Maverick" and "F1: The Movie" director Joseph Kosinski. The director spoke to GQ while promoting "F1", and said in the coming threequel "Top Gun 3", Maverick will be dealing with an existential crisis. "We're thinking much bigger than... It's a really existential crisis that Maverick has in this, and it's much bigger than himself." "It actually... I'm trying to describe it without giving anything away," Kosinski continued. "It's an existential question that Maverick has to deal with, that would make Maverick feel small, I think, as a movie, compared to what we're talking about." Skydance Media Kosinski went on to confirm that, while "Top Gun: Maverick" may have felt like it was passing the baton to a new generation, Maverick will remain the central character in "Top Gun 3". "Yeah, there's still more story to tell for him," Kosinski said. "There's one last ride. So we're working on it now. Ehren Kruger, who wrote 'F1', is writing the script. Like all things, it takes a while to work things out, and we'll only do it if we feel like we've got a strong enough story." "Top Gun: Maverick" proved to be a humungous success. The film suffered a number of delays because Cruise refused to have it released straight to streaming during the COVID pandemic. It finally hit theaters in May 2022. Pulling in $1.5 billion at the global box office, the legacy sequel proved to be a massive hit. It made such a dent that Steven Spielberg was quoted saying that Cruise had "saved Hollywood's a**." Pete "Maverick" Mitchell may not be the only legacy character Cruise returns to in the coming years. Back in May, Cruise's frequent collaborator - director Christopher McQuarrie - said they've had discussions about bringing back his "Tropic Thunder" character Les Grossman. "The conversations we've had about Les Grossman are so f---ing funny," McQuarrie said. "We're talking about it, man. We're having very serious conversations about it and how best to do it and where, you know, it ultimately comes down to what that character is." King Charles Hosts Amal, George Clooney Who Once Defended Harry and Meghan

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. George and Amal Clooney were welcomed into Buckingham Palace by King Charles Wednesday, six years after the couple issued a passionate public defense of Meghan Markle. Some royal watchers may associate the Clooneys with high-profile comments George made in February 2019 stating Meghan was being "pursued and vilified and chased" by the media "in the same way that Diana was." They were also among the most famous names at Harry and Meghan's wedding in 2018 and the Sussexes stayed with the Clooneys twice, at Lake Como and their house in Sonning, Berkshire. On Wednesday, the power couple joined makeup entrepreneur Charlotte Tilbury to meet the king, before brushing shoulders with the great and good of the British showbiz scene, in the 10th year of the King's Trust International. The King's Trust also marks its 50th year in 2026. Tilbury told Newsweek: "I feel incredibly honored to be an Ambassador for Enterprise for The King's Trust. He is a global visionary. The king has always been ahead of his time, if you think about what he did with Climate change, what he has done understanding how he can help communities out, how he can empower young people." More Stefan Rousseau-That was all before the royal rift exploded into public consciousness but family drama has not interfered with another key loyalty. Amal Clooney has since 2019 been an ambassador for the King's Trust, one of Charles' most important charities, set up in 1976, when he was in his 20s. The trust has its annual awards Thursday and George and Amal Clooney attended a Buckingham Palace reception Wednesday to celebrate the winners. Actor Joseph Fiennes, star of Shakespeare in Love and The Handmaid's Tale, will be presenting one of the awards at the Royal Festival Hall on Thursday and attended Wednesday's reception. He told Newsweek: "It's vital because in the 25 years I've been doing this you just see the extraordinary collection of young potential that has been picked up having been disenfranchised or not given the right opportunities. "So, I said to His Majesty, maybe it was inappropriate, you are the patron saint of second chances and giving young potential second chances is vital." Newsweek is an official media partner for the Global Sustainability Award, the winner of which got a chance to share a lighthearted moment with King Charles. Pascal Ahaisibwe, 20, from Uganda, told Newsweek: "I recycle plastic bottles. I get different products from plastic that I collect around the towns. And I make products like key holders, sugar bowls, flower vessels. "I have a number of days that I normally go to collect the bottles. I will use one hour to collect the bottles and the other remaining hours to work on them. Mostly I do that during the evening after school time. "Plastic bottles are a big problem in the town where I live. I really enjoyed meeting the king and I was very happy." Jack Royston is chief royal correspondent for Newsweek, based in London.
