A British holidaymaker has been arrested and extradited following a two-year police manhunt after a teenager was killed with a broken bottle in Lisbon.
The 27-year-old is set to be tried by Portuguese officials over the death of Daniel Galhanas after he was stabbed in the neck with the sharp glass object in the early hours of October 14 2023.
The tourist, who is yet to be named, was forced on a flight back to the country of the crime and remanded in custody after failed appeals against his return.
It is said the attack against the 19-year-old victim occurred in Lisbon's Bairro Alto neighbourhood.
Initial reports suggest he was targeted while trying to defend a friend who was part of a gang of thieves that tried to rob the suspected killer and his friends.
Stabbing victim Daniel Galhanas was first identified as one of the gang members who attacked the group, allegedly British tourists, in Lisbon, Portugal.
Family members have denied Daniel was involved with the gang and said he was only trying to help his friend.
According to the family, one of the tourists threw a bottle at Daniel's friend after the group was approached.
The bottle broke and the unnamed suspect picked up the smashed bottle, using it to slash at Daniel, who had come between the group and his friend.

While the group of tourists are seen running away.
Daniel went into cardiac arrest and was taken alive to São José Hospital after being found by volunteer firefighters - but did not survive his injuries.
Video footage from above the street shows about a dozen people clashing in the road as cars pass at the intersection of Calçada do Combro and Largo do Calhariz.
Police say the gang targets foreign tourists on weekend evenings as they walk through the city after a night out.
Confirming the arrest and extradition, Portugal's police force said: 'The Policia Judiciaria, with the collaboration of the police and judicial authorities of the United Kingdom, located, arrested and extradited to Portugal a 27-year-old man who is strongly suspected of committing a first degree murder.
They added: 'The crime took place in the early hours of 14 October 2023, between 4am and 5am, following an altercation between two rival groups.
'The victim ended up being hit in the neck with a broken glass bottle, which caused serious injuries and led to his death on the spot.
'After the incident, both the suspect and the other members of his group fled the scene.
'Investigative work carried out by the PJ's Lisbon and Tagus Valley Directorate, which is leading the investigation, led to the identification of the suspected perpetrator and the issuing of an international arrest warrant.
'The suspect, a foreign national, was eventually located and arrested in the United Kingdom, where he travelled to the day after the murder.
'After being brought before judicial authorities in Portugal, he was remanded in pre-trial custody.'

Around 18 months earlier, Boulares had threatened to behead Aled Jones with a machete as he stole his £17,000 Rolex in Chiswick, west London. The thief, then 16, was locked up for his attack on the Welsh chorister in October 2023 but was released from youth detention early after serving just 14 months of his 24-month sentence. Boulares, who can now be named and pictured after turning 18, has gone on to commit a spate of crimes, including robbing rising star Ms Chenneour, who plays rumour-monger Clara Livingston in hit Netflix period drama Bridgerton. The thug's extensive criminal history - 12 previous convictions relating to 28 offences - was laid bare after he pleaded guilty on May 29 to stealing Ms Chenneour's phone and assaulting another customer, Carlo Kurcishi. In exclusive footage obtained by MailOnline, the actress can be seen courageously fighting back against the hooded thief who targeted her while she was out with a friend on a dog walk. The fearless Yorkshire-born actress puts her arm out to block the thief from leaving and dislodges the phone from his hand. Retrieving the iPhone from off the floor, she then uses the device to strike Boulares who is left helpless on the floor. The commotion continued as shocked onlookers began to form a crowd in the popular café in Kensington. Inside Austrian school massacre: Students rang parents to say they were going to die while others pretended they were dead as 'bullied' ex-student fired 'in a circle' in classrooms, slaughtering 10 people
A 'bullied' drop-out pupil turned an Austrian school into a bloodbath yesterday as he massacred ten innocents in a gun rampage. More than a dozen others were wounded as shots and screams rang out when the 21-year-old stormed into his old classroom blasting a shotgun and a pistol which he legally owned. In the country's worst mass school shooting, terror-stricken pupils pretended to be dead as they cowered in corridors and two classrooms or ran for their lives. Chilling video captured the sound of shots followed by screams as the gunman picked off his victims at the Dreierschuetzengasse high school in Austria's second largest city, Graz. Pupils and teachers were said to be among the dead. Six female and three male victims died quickly, with one adult said to be among them. The tenth victim, a woman, succumbed to her injuries in hospital last night. The former pupil – named locally as 'Artur A' – ended his deadly rampage when he turned a gun on himself in a toilet cubicle. Police later found a suicide note at his home nearby, which said he had 'felt bullied' at the school, according to Austria's Krone Zeitung newspaper, although authorities said only that he was an ex-pupil who had quit before completing his studies. It was also reported that a 'farewell video' was discovered, adding to the idea that Artur A may have meticulously planned his atrocity. Detectives are scouring data on his mobile phone and computers to build a picture of his recent movements and search for clues as to his motivation. Austria was plunged into a state of shock, with Chancellor Christian Stocker flying to Graz and declaring a 'dark day in the history of our country' as he announced three days of national mourning. More than 300 police and special forces descended on the school after 'screams and gunshots' were heard by emergency service workers during frantic calls at 10am local time. Armed Cobra police commandos charged into the four-storey building as part of an emergency response that included 65 ambulances, at least two air ambulances and 158 paramedics. Terrified pupils filmed themselves as gunshots rang out, and later as they fled down corridors as armed officers helped evacuate them from the 400-pupil school. Two schoolgirls were shown clinging on to each other as they ran from the school building. One teacher described being barricaded inside a classroom with pupils as they heard the gunshots. A distressing video showed victims lined up on stretchers outside of the school while dozens of paramedics tended to them. Some were covered by white sheets. Helicopter ambulances airlifted the most severely injured straight to Graz Regional Hospital. Desperate parents raced to the school as word of the massacre spread, with police reuniting them with evacuated survivors at a local hall. One father told how his son had survived by pretending to be dead. The man, named as Farag, told television channel Puls 24: 'Out of fear, he lay down to pretend that he was killed so that he wouldn't be targeted any more.' He added: 'Who did this? What kind of problem did he have?' One mother said: 'My son called me to say he was in school and that he was being shot at, and that he thinks he is going to die. I've only found out now, two hours later, that he's still alive.' Metin Ozden, who was in his kebab restaurant near the school, said: 'I've never seen so many emergency services in my entire life.' He said parents passing his restaurant were crying as they rushed to the school. Police commander Franz Ruff said 'at least' a dozen people had been injured in addition to those killed. Today, a nationwide minute's silence will be held at 10am local time. Flags on the Hofburg Palace in Vienna, where the president has his office, will fly at half mast. Yesterday afternoon long queues formed outside a blood donation centre in Graz. Johanna, 30, said: 'I'm here because I wanted to do something. I felt helpless.' Austria has one of the highest rates of gun ownership in Europe, with roughly 370,000 Austrians legally owning 1.5 million registered firearms, according to the interior ministry. Wild hunting is popular in the country and more than half of Austria's registered firearms fall under the category of weapons that can be owned by any adult without a licence.
