Baby shower descends into punch up involving family of famous darts star

Daily Mirror27-05-2025

Sarah Wilson, 45, and daughter Chardonnay, 20, who are both relatives of a darts legend appeared in court over a fight at a baby shower with two members of another family
A punch-up broke out at a baby shower involving relatives of a famous darts player when they started to play a light-hearted game. Sarah Wilson, 45, and daughter Chardonnay, 20, ended up in court last week over the fracas at the family event in Fife.
They were at a party being held at Lochore Miners' Welfare Social Club where the atmosphere turned sour with an expectant mum allegedly punched and a gran saying an essential feeding tube was dislodged, a court heard. Sarah Wilson of Kirkcaldy allegedly assaulted Pamela Ritchie by grabbing her hair and repeatedly punching her on the body on May 18 last year, Dunfermline Sheriff Court heard.

And Chardonnay was found guilty of assaulting Yvonne Ritchie, the grandmother of the father-to-be. Sarah is the niece of Scottish darts legend Jocky Wilson - but reacted furiously when asked about her relationship with the late sportsman. She said: 'I'm Jocky Wilson's niece and Chardonnay is his great niece but that has nothing to do with any of this.'

Speaking to the Daily Record yesterday Chardonnay - who was given an absolute discharge by a sheriff after being found guilty - insisted she was innocent.
She said: 'I didn't touch her feeding tube and I didn't pull her feeding tube out. I didn't do anything. It took three of them to try and attack me.'
Games at the baby shower, such as baby bingo, were ruined by offensive comments fired back and forth across the hall in Lochore, Fife, Dunfermline Sheriff Court had heard last week. And the bad feeling between the families escalated to violence outside the Lochore hall.
Chardonnay told the court the event had started at 1pm and was a baby shower for her sister Chantelle ahead of the birth of her daughter, which occurred a fortnight later.

She said the two families were sitting at different tables and 'at first it was fine'. The court was told there was more arguing during a game of baby bingo and allegations about sexual comments being heard.
There were then claims about an abusive comment, 'f****** fools', aimed at the Wilsons, being written on a paper plate. Chardonnay's mum Sarah will be sentenced on June 4 for her part in the incident.
Gino Gambale, solicitor for Chardonnay, asked for his client to be given an absolute discharge as a conviction would end her career as a carer. The sheriff agreed and gave her an absolute discharge.

Chardonnay continues to refute the claims she was behind an attack on Yvonne Ritchie by punching or kicking her and trying to pull out the breathing tube.
Sheriff Susan Duff said it would 'not be proportionate' to impose a sentence which would end a young person's career in this case. She agreed to the defence request for an absolute discharge.
Chardonnay said: 'I was accused of battering Yvonne and I was accused of attempting to pull her feeding tube out. This has gone on for two years. Four months before all of this happened I received threatening messages.'
Sarah admitted in court that she assaulted Pamela Ritchie by seizing her by the hair and repeatedly punching her on the body. Chardonnay Wilson, also of Kirkcaldy, was found guilty of a charge that she assaulted Yvonne Ritchie, who had claimed she attempted to seize her essential feeding tube.

Five arrested after police swarm industrial building over 'possible cannabis cultivation'

The men were aged between 17 and 50 years old. Five men have been arrested after police swarmed on an industrial building in Greenock earlier today. Officers from Police Scotland received a report of a "possible cannabis cultivation" at the former tobacco warehouse on the corner of Clarence Street and Hood Street in the Inverclyde town. Multiple police vehicles arrived at the scene at around 11.15am on Thursday, June 5. The men, aged 17, 23, 26, 38 and 50 were later arrested. Enquiries into the incident are still ongoing. It is not yet known whether drugs were recovered from the premises. Images from the scene show police vans and cars parked along the street, with Clarence Street seemingly closed off by a police car blocking the road at each end. Several uniformed officers were seen standing guard outside the building and speaking to locals. A charity based in the building, RIG Arts, commented on a social media post on the incident reassuring people they were not affected. They said: "RIG Arts remained open during the situation in the building today and we will be operating as usual. There is a police presence at the Tobacco Warehouse but this is not related to our studio. "Thank you for all enquiries regarding this issue, we can confirm that all is well with the RIG Team and participants." Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Madeleine McCann search called off after just three days as police pack up

German and Portuguese police began searching properties on Tuesday. The new search for Madeleine McCann has been called off - just three days after it started. This week a new search was launched for clues over her disappearance. She vanished in Portugal when she was a toddler. On Tuesday, German and Portuguese police descended on several properties in an area of southern Portugal close to Praia da Luz. ‌ She had been in the area on holiday when she went missing in 2007. But the officers in question have now been seen packing up their equipment, which included a digger and ground-penetrating radars ‌ They are believed to have not found any traces of the missing girl. Investigators were punctured at several homes linked to prime suspect and convicted paedophile Christian Brueckner. The Mirror reports he used to live in the area during the time the toddler vanished while on holiday. A group of German and Portuguese officers stood around for a debrief at the search officially ended. The meeting ended in a round of applause and the teams shaking hands. Despite this, nothing related to the missing girl appeared to be found during the operation. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Police however have not shared an official statement on what could have been found. Police initially had a warrant until Friday, June 6, to investigate areas of interest in southern Portugal. ‌ Earlier today, investigators indicated that they were expected to end their search on Thursday if nothing was found. The operation kicked off on Tuesday, June 3, with teams scouring through more than 20 plots of land east of Praia da Luz. This included spots between the Ocean Club holiday resort where Madeleine vanished and the cottage where German authorities' prime suspect Christian Breuckner lived. Search teams discovered animal bones and pieces of adult clothing at these sites, according to Portuguese TV reports. The huge operation saw more than 60 officers involved in the latest search. ‌ Police were pictured using a JCB digger and cutting-edge ground-penetrating radar scanners. One of the places searched was a cottage once lived in by prime suspect Brueckner. The fresh search was reportedly prompted by new information about their suspect. Convicted paedophile Brueckner is currently serving a seven-year prison sentence in Germany. He was caged over the 2005 rape of an elderly woman at her Praia da Luz home but he has denied any involvement in the disappearance of Madeleine.

Footballer sent girlfriend on 'all-expenses holiday' but didn't mention what she'd be bringing back

Footballer sent girlfriend on 'all-expenses holiday' but didn't mention what she'd be bringing back Former Cardiff City player Jay Emmanuel-Thomas acted as a 'middle-man' in a plot to smuggle £600,000 of cannabis into the UK from Thailand, and used his partner as an unwitting courier Jay Emmanuel-Thomas in action for Cardiff City in 2011 (Image:) A footballer recruited his girlfriend to act as an unwitting courier in a £600,000 cannabis importation operation, a court heard. Jay Emmanuel-Thomas - who had a loan spell with Cardiff City early in his career - acted as a "middle man" in the smuggling plot which involved shipping some 60kg of cannabis into the UK from Thailand. Chelmsford Crown Court heard the 34-year-old footballer arranged flights and hotels for his partner and her close friend and turned the smuggling operation into "an all-expenses paid holiday in the Far East". ‌ But the plan came crashing down following an investigation from the National Crime Agency which saw the women detained and their bags searched when they arrived on a business class flight from Bangkok. For the latest court reports sign up to our crime newsletter ‌ Sending the defendant down, a judge told him: "It is through your own actions that you will no longer be known as a professional footballer, you will be known as a criminal. "A professional footballer who threw it all away and put others at risk of immediate custody to make what you thought would be easy money". David Josse KC, prosecuting, told the court that on September 2 last year two women were stopped on arrival at Stansted Airport and their cases were seized and examined. He said the defendant had recruited the women - one of whom was his partner - and had arranged their flights and hotels in Thailand. The court heard the women believed there was gold or cash in the suitcases. Read about a Swansea fishing boat skipper who was "at the heart" of a £100m cocaine smuggling operation The couriers recruited by the defendant were initially charged in connection with the smuggling operation but the prosecution subsequently offered no evidence against them. ‌ The prosecutor said Emmanuel-Thomas was playing for the Scottish side Greenock Morton at the time of the offending, and that during his career he had played for a number of clubs including Ipswich, Bristol City, QPR and a number of overseas teams including - "significantly" - Thai side PTT Rayong. He told the court the defendant was expecting a payment of some £5,000 for his role in the smuggling operation. Jay Emmanuel-Thomas (Image: National Crime Agency ) ‌ Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, of Cardwell Road in Gourock, Inverclyde, Scotland, had previously pleaded guilty to the fraudulent evasion of the prohibition on the importation of cannabis when he returned to the dock for sentencing. He has no previous convictions. Alex Rose, for Emmanuel-Thomas, said the defendant had enjoyed a successful football career but by the summer of 2024 he was experiencing financial difficulties and was living in a relatively isolated part of Scotland a long way from his family in London when he made a "catastrophic error of judgement". He said for 30 years the defendant managed to turn his back on "negative influences" associated with where he was born in London but in the summer and autumn of 2024 he "succumbed to temptation". ‌ The barrister said the defendant realised his playing career was over but that documents before the court showed he had future prospects in football coaching or management. He added: "He will regret what he did and feel shame for the rest of his life." Judge Alexander Mills said the defendant had recruited the women to bring cannabis into the country and had acted as an "intermediary" between them and the drugs suppliers as well as arranging their flights and hotels in Thailand. ‌ The judge said the defendant "turned the importation of cannabis into an all-expenses paid holiday in the Far East". He said that despite the "privilege" of being a professional footballer, the defendant had turned to drug smuggling to make money. He told defendant: "It is through your own actions that you will no longer be known as a professional footballer, you will be known as a criminal. A professional footballer who threw it all away and put others at risk of immediate custody to make what you thought would be easy money". The judge said the defendant's conviction was a "significant fall from grace". ‌ With a 10% discount for his guilty plea, Emmanuel-Thomas was sentenced to four years in prison. The defendant will serve 40% of that sentence in custody before being released on licence to serve the remainder in the community. The almost nine months the defendant has spent on remand will count against the sentence. Article continues below
