Delhi's air quality turns poor, anti-pollution curbs under GRAP-1 imposed
The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) on Saturday ordered implementation of the Graded Response Action Plan - Stage I (GRAP-I) in Delhi-National Capital Region and adjoining areas with immediate effect as the air quality turned "poor".After a meeting of the sub-committee on GRAP held on Saturday, the curbs were ordered after reviewing the air quality scenario as well as the weather forecasts alongwith the Air Quality Index of Delhi.advertisement"The AQI of Delhi has shown an increasing trend and has been recorded at 209 for June 7, 2025. The Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) is a set of stratified measures and guidelines implemented in Delhi NCR to combat air pollution in Delhi-NCR. The AQI scale has five levels: Good (0-50); Satisfactory (51-100); Moderate (101-200); Poor (201-300); and Very Poor (301-400).GRAP Stage I measures, corresponding to 'Poor' air quality (AQI 201-300), include restrictions such as suspension of construction activities, traffic management, and restricting operations of certain industries contributing to air pollution.As per the CAQM advisory, people are urged to follow these under GRAP 1 guidelines:Keep engines of your vehicles properly tuned.Maintain proper tyre pressure in vehicles.Keep PUC certificates of your vehicles up to date.Do not idle your vehicle, also turn off the engine at red lights.Prefer hybrid vehicles or EVs to control vehicular pollution.Do not litter / dispose wastes, garbage in open spaces.Report air polluting activities through 311 App, Green Delhi App, SAMEER App etc.Plant more trees.Celebrate festivals in an eco-friendly manner – avoid firecrackers.Do not drive/ply end of life/ 10/15 years old Diesel/Petrol vehicles.This is the second time in less than a month that the GRAP-1 restrictions have been implemented in Delhi-NCR following a severe dust storm that contributing in worsening the city's air quality.Must Watch

New Delhi [India], June 7 (ANI): In view of rising pollution levels, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has enforced Stage-I of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) in Delhi-NCR with immediate effect. The action came after Delhi's Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 209, which falls under the 'Poor' category. The decision was a comprehensive review by the CAQM Sub-Committee, which convened on Saturday and reviewed the air quality scenario in the region, as well as the IMD/IITM forecasts and air quality index of Delhi comprehensively. 'The AQI of Delhi has shown an increasing trend and has been recorded at 209 for 07.06.2025. Further, the forecast by IMD/IITM also predicts AQI to mainly remain in 'Poor' category in coming days,' said the statement from CAQM 'The Sub-Committee, accordingly, decides to invoke all actions under Stage-I ('Poor' Air Quality) of the extant GRAP in the entire NCR, with immediate effect,' it added. On May 18 following the subsequent decrease in the air pollution levels, the CAQM revoked the Stage-I measures of the Graded Response Action Plan across the entire NCR. An AQI rating is categorised as follows: 0-50 (good), 51-100 (satisfactory), 101-200 (moderate), 201-300 (poor), 301-400 (very poor), and 401-500 (severe). (ANI)

Air quality declines to poor, GRAP stage 1 restrictions implemented
New Delhi: Delhi's air quality deteriorated to the 'poor' category on Saturday with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 209, forcing Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) to invoke stage I of the Graded Response Action Plan in Delhi-NCR. The AQI was 161 in the 'moderate' category a day earlier. The measures under stage I are preventive and focus on the stringent enforcement of existing guidelines. It has been implemented in Delhi-NCR for the seventh time this year. GRAP's stage I was in force for the entire winter season (2024-25), with the CAQM lifting it finally on March 3. However, it was again enforced in NCR from March 7 to March 15, followed by the periods from March 24 to 29; from April 2 to May 1; from May 16 to 18 and May 21 to 23. After the rain spell has been over, the air quality deteriorated in the absence of strong winds blowing in the city. Experts said ground-level ozone is one of the lead pollutants now. "The AQI of Delhi has shown an increasing trend. Further, the forecast by IMD/IITM also predicts AQI to mainly remain in the 'poor' category in the coming days. The measures under stage I include intensifying the use of anti-smog guns, water sprinkling, and dust suppression measures in road construction, widening or repair projects, and maintenance activities, and strict vigilance and enforcement of PUC norms for vehicles. Other measures include enforcing a complete ban on coal or firewood in tandoors in hotels, restaurants, and open eateries; enforcing orders of NGT and Supreme Court on overage vehicles; enforcing courts or tribunal orders regarding the ban on firecrackers; and ensuring that diesel generator sets are not used as a regular source of power supply. Meanwhile, as dry conditions are expected to prevail, the mercury is likely to rise over the next few days. It is expected to reach 42-44 degrees Celsius by June 10. "Dust-raising winds at the speed of 20-30 kmph are likely to blow in the city from Sunday to Tuesday," said a Met official. 1 2 Visakhapatnam: The maximum temperatures across the state are rising again due to lack of rainfall over the past few days. The monsoon that has been stalled for the last one-week, is likely to revive from June 11, in Andhra Pradesh, and some parts of the state may witness rainfall activity. Parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh (CAP) and Rayalaseema regions have reported 2-2.5°C higher than normal temperatures on Saturday. Few parts of the north coastal AP experienced thunderstorms on Saturday evening, bringing some relief to the denizens from the hot and humid weather conditions. Between Friday morning and Saturday morning, Palasa in Srikakulam district recorded six centimetre of rainfall. This was followed by Anakapalle (five centimetre), Mandasa, Therlam, Garividi and Nagari (three centimetre each). Few parts of north AP recorded rainfall between one and two centimetre during the period. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) indicated on Saturday that thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and gusty winds are likely at isolated places over north coastal AP, Yanam, south coastal AP and Rayalaseema regions till June 10.
