is among the first companies to be affected by new US restrictions on chip design software, a Financial Times report claims. Quoting people with knowledge of the matter, the report says that the move could severely impact China's ambitions in advanced semiconductor manufacturing.

For those unaware, Xiaomi unveiled its self-designed XRING O1 mobile processor last month. The chip—manufactured using
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company
's (TSMC) leading-edge 3-nanometre technology is intended for Xiaomi's newest flagship smartphones.
Meanwhile, the Bureau of Industry and Security, part of the US Commerce Department, recently ordered electronic design automation (EDA) firms to halt the supply of tools to Chinese companies, cutting off crucial software that enables the creation of cutting-edge chips.
With the new restrictions, Xiaomi's chip may face hurdles for its reliance on
EDA tools
from now-restricted US providers. Though the custom chip currently represents a small share of Xiaomi's handset sales, insiders say the company plans to use its own silicon across all future high-end smartphones and tablets.
Other brands may face similar challenges
Other Chinese firms—such as Lenovo, the world's largest PC maker, and Bitmain, a leader in crypto mining hardware—also design their own chips using US EDA tools and TSMC's fabrication facilities, and could face similar challenges.
While the full scope of the new US ban is not yet public, current indications suggest that existing licences may not be revoked, but future software updates and technical support will be blocked. This would effectively freeze development capabilities for Chinese firms depending on TSMC and US software.
Although TSMC is already prohibited from manufacturing
advanced AI chips
for Chinese firms, production of processors for smartphones, tablets, and other less sensitive applications had continued under exemptions—until now.
Big tech companies like Alibaba and Baidu have also built in-house chips, but the extent of the EDA ban's impact on them remains unclear.

This new technology promises faster charging and reliable performance, shaping how vehicles function

The automotive industry is adapting to the fast changing technological landscape. The mode of transportation has transformed over the decades, be it in terms of design, features or technology. Now, a Chinese company named CATL has come up with a battery that could change the way people use electric cars. This new battery can charge much faster than the ones most electric cars use today. The idea is to make charging almost as quick as filling petrol in a regular car. With this new battery, they are trying to make electric cars more practical for everyday use. It gives around 323 miles (520 kms) of driving range after just five minutes of charging. That means less waiting at charging stations and more time driving. It also works well in cold conditions, still charging fast even when temperatures are very low. CATL shared this new battery just before a big motor show in Shanghai. The company is known for supplying batteries to big car brands like Tesla, Ford and General Motors. Even in freezing weather, the battery can go from five percent to eighty percent in just fifteen minutes. This is helpful for people who live in cold places where batteries usually charge slowly. Along with this battery, CATL also revealed two more ideas. One is a battery system that combines two different types of cells to offer a very long range of up to 932 miles (1500 kms). The second is a sodium-ion battery. This one is better for the environment and keeps most of its power even when temperatures fall very low. These new battery upgrades can make life easier for people who drive every day. Faster charging means electric cars are more convenient and practical, encouraging more people to choose them instead of petrol vehicles. These batteries also offer strong performance in all seasons, even during very cold weather. For people who drive every day, these upgrades could mean shorter charging times and more reliable performance all year round. Charging quickly makes it easier to own an electric vehicle and gives people one more reason to switch from fuel-powered cars.

Gold outlook: Precious metal likely to remain rangebound. Is it right time to invest?

Gold price: After the release of weak US economic data, MCX gold prices opened with an upward gap at ₹ 98,248 per 10 grams and quickly rose to an intraday high of ₹ 98,378 shortly after the market opened on Friday, June 6. The precious metal settled 0.02 per cent higher to end the day at ₹ 97,051. The weak U.S. economic data overshadowed the early optimism sparked by President Donald Trump's call with Chinese President Xi Jinping, as investors turned their focus to the upcoming U.S. payroll report. In the international market, Gold prices declined by over 1% on Friday following a U.S. jobs report that exceeded expectations, reducing optimism for near-term interest rate cuts by the Federal Reserve. ' Gold prices have rallied with good momentum in the recent week from a close of Rs.95875/10 gms to around Rs.98133/10 gms as on 6th June 2025, a rally of around 2.5 percent. On the COMEX, gold prices have rallied from lows of $3245/ounce to around $3366/ounce as on 6th June 2025, rally of around 3.7 percent. The yellow metal is shining bright on account of factors revolving around the escalation of geo-political tensions between Russia-Ukraine although they are sitting on the negotiation table discussing peace, combined with the tariff situation between US-China,' said Prathamesh Mallya, DVP- Research, Non-Agri Commodities and Currencies, Angel One Ltd. Silver prices climbed past $36 per ounce, hitting their highest level since February 2012, fueled by strong technical momentum, solid industrial demand, persistent supply shortages, and growing investor interest as a safe haven during economic uncertainty. Jigar Trivedi, Senior Research Analyst at Reliance Securities says that investors will be closely monitoring how the growing rift between President Trump and Elon Musk unfolds, in addition to the ongoing uncertainty surrounding US tariff negotiations. Trivedi further said that Comex gold has been trading in the broad range from $3,200-3,400/oz, this range is crucial for the next move. A close above $3,400/oz will open doors for the next rally until $3,500/oz in the coming weeks. ' On the other side, a close below $3,200/oz may pull it lower to $3,100/oz. Hence will have to wait for the range to be broken decisively. The undertone is bullish amid a weak US dollar, economic uncertainties, trade war and escalating Geo political risk between the Russia and the Ukraine. MCX Gold August may appreciate to Rs. 98,40/10gm,' he added. Disclaimer: This story is for educational purposes only. BYD Files Lawsuit Against 37 Influencers Over Online Defamation

BYD, a Chinese automaker, has ascended to a position, earning it a seat at the table of the largest electric vehicle manufacturers. Usually, the brand is the headline for its models. However, this time, the OEM is attracting attention because of its firm stance against online defamation and misinformation. In an official statement, the brand's legal team has announced action against 37 influencer accounts for allegedly disseminating false information about the company. BYD is also internally monitoring 126 influencers for allegedly sharing misleading content. The organization highlighted its dedication to addressing defamatory content and urged the community to report any questionable actions, sustaining a proactive financial incentive program for confirmed information linked to online smear efforts. CarsNewsChina quotes Li Yunfei, General Manager of BYD's Branding and PR department, saying that the company has recently come across a lot of false news in the past couple of years. This forced the manufacturer to take legal action against the accused influencers. "We welcome media criticism and public oversight, but we will not tolerate defamatory content or false accusations," Li wrote. "Legal action will continue." According to CarNewsChina, "In the statement, BYD said it has faced repeated online attacks in recent years involving false or misleading information that it claims has harmed its brand image, disrupted market order, and negatively affected the wider automotive sector. While BYD has described these incidents as 'organised' or 'coordinated,' it has not provided public evidence supporting the coordination of such efforts," the report said. BYD also claimed that there are active lawsuits concerning defamation cases. Although certain court rulings have confirmed BYD's legal assertions, additional inquiries are still pending resolution.
