Downtown Windsor was buzzing Saturday night as the first of several planned summer block parties took over Pitt Street.
Hosted by the Downtown Windsor BIA, the kickoff event featured The Soul Delegation, who kept the crowd dancing in the streets for three solid hours with Motown classics, until the music wrapped up at 11 p.m.
City Councillor Renaldo Agostino beamed at the turnout. He estimated to be about 1,000 people during the seven-hour event.
'I must have had 20 people come up to me and say they didn't feel like they were in downtown Windsor,' he told CTV News.
'You know what my response to them was? Remember that you are.'
Agostino said the BIA hopes to host two or three block parties each month. The next one is set to bring a different kind of energy — Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling will take over the core with an event outside Lefty/'s.
'Scott [D'Amore, MLP president] is bringing in some heavy hitters on this one,' Agostino teased.
Stay tuned.

(Photo by Richard Shotwell/Invision/AP, File) Barrie and Muskoka just got a lyrical nod from one of Canada's biggest music artists. The Grammy-winning artist Drake and Toronto rapper Smiley collaborated on Smiley's new song, "2 Mazza." In the second verse Drake raps, 'I'm in Barrie Muskoka, and Brampton,' mentioning locations he visits. The track, posted on Friday is already trending Top 10 for Music on YouTube. '2 Mazza' uses Toronto dialect and local shout-outs, with the song's title pulling from a phrase that means 'too crazy.' The local references have quickly caught the attention of many across social media, with fans and even politicians celebrating the mention. Barrie Mayor Alex Nuttall joined the fun on X, writing, "Drake showing #Barrie some love in his new track - we see you! You've officially got the #705 on repeat today. Doors are always open if you want to visit City Hall, tour's on us! #6ixto705." 🎤🎶 @Drake showing #Barrie some love in his new track - we see you! You've officially got the #705 on repeat today. Doors are always open if you want to visit City Hall, tour's on us! #6ixto705 — Alex Nuttall (@AlexFromBarrie) June 13, 2025 Drake often references Toronto locations in his lyrics, but for many Barrie and Muskoka fans, the shout-out offers a rare moment of recognition on an international stage and a 'loud' way to represent the 705.
