King and Kate return to annual Commonwealth service
King Charles III and Catherine, Princess of Wales have attended the annual Commonwealth Day service, a year after both were forced to cancel because they were receiving cancer treatment.
The event at Westminster Abbey on Monday celebrated the Commonwealth's "powerful influence for good in the world".
Queen Camilla, the Prince of Wales and the Princess Royal also attended, along with Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer.
The King's appearance at the service was his first in two years, while Catherine was absent last year as she was undergoing chemotherapy, which she has since completed.
Ahead of commemorations marking the 80th anniversary of the end of World War Two, the King paid tribute to the "sacrifice and selflessness" of Commonwealth forces.
He also said restoring the "disrupted harmony of our entire planet" is the most "important" task facing humanity.
In an address included in a booklet given to the congregation, the King wrote: "More than one and-a-half million men and women who served during the war came from across the Commonwealth to support the United Kingdom and its allies.
"On this special anniversary, we remember with particular pride and everlasting gratitude the untold sacrifice and selflessness of so many from around our family of nations who gave their lives in that dreadful conflict."
The theme of this year's Commonwealth Day is Together We Thrive, which celebrates the "enduring spirit of the Commonwealth family".
During his bidding, the Dean of Westminster said: "As different peoples we rejoice in this opportunity to reflect, in mutual respect, on our shared dignity and commitment to the service of others.
"We celebrate the love and affection that binds us in unity and gives us resilience and strength."
Among the performers at the service were Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa, a Hindu Scottish pipe band, and musicians, acrobats and singers from the Masai Cultural Arts team.
Violinist Braimah Kanneh-Mason and his sister Jeneba on piano also played during the service.
Protesters from the anti-monarchy group Republic held up placards reading "not my King" and "down with the Crown" as they gathered outside the abbey ahead of the service.

The outing comes as King Charles continues to receive treatment for an undisclosed form of cancer, a diagnosis that was shared with the public last year. Despite the health challenge, the King has kept a steady pace of in-person engagements and will lead the royal family at Trooping the Colour on June 14. In April, the King shared another candid — and humorous — moment while visiting Italy. After planting an oak tree at Villa Wolkonsky in Rome, he joked, "Well I do hope that I shall live long enough to see a little bit of growth in the tree." After arriving at Lancaster Castle for his first official visit as monarch, the King — who is also the Duke of Lancaster — participated in a Ceremony of Keys, during which he was given the keys to the castle. The tradition first began in 1851 with Queen Victoria. The King's late mother, Queen Elizabeth, also participated in the ceremony in 2015. Inside the grounds of Lancaster Castle, the King met with local business owners who sell cheese, wool yarns and furniture, and spoke with them about their products, including Gillian Hale of Butlers' Farmhouse Cheeses. He did, however, tell her that he especially loves sheep's cheese, which he prefers to eat with a digestive biscuit. At a reception after the ceremony, the King met with members of St. John's Hospice, staff from the Lancaster Literature Festival and employees from the organization Escape 2 Make, which hosts creative workshops for young people. Exclusive: Love Island's Harriett Blackmore hints at huge twist as she spots major season 12 clue
A new season of Love Island is here and the twists have already begun. On Sunday night (8th June), Toni Laites was revealed as the first bombshell for season 12. In a show first, the 24-year-old will be flying in all the way from the US. She'll make her debut on Monday night's episode and will get to steal a boy right away. But as is usual with Love Island, there's more to come, and former Islander Harriett Blackmore thinks she knows what's on the way. Speaking exclusively to Cosmopolitan UK along with Catherine Agbaje, Harriett pointed out that in the promo imagery there are different clocks labelled Mallorca, Menorca and Marbella. She thinks this could be part of a major twist, as the show celebrates its 10th anniversary. "I think there's probably like a Casa [Amor] in Marbella," she said. "Surely they're not going to fly them out to [Marbella]." On the topic of twists, Catherine added: "Did you see this year that they're actually asking what the viewers want as twists? I feel like we're in for a lot of twists. Hopefully it's crazy twists. I want to see crazy twists." "Yeah I want it to be chaos!" Harriett said. Usually, the Casa Amor villa is located not too far from the main villa, with the Islanders being able to hear one another while playing games or during parties.
