As such, the needle to thread on a Durant deal is a complicated and interesting one, though there are some teams that make a considerable amount of sense. As far as Durant is concerned, the most likely of them is a Texas-based Western Conference squad with loads of young talent and a bright future ahead that could be realized as early as next season. "I do know somebody that has been with Kevin Durant recently," John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports 98.7 FM in Phoenix reported on Friday, June 6. "And Kevin Durant and this person talked about the Spurs." Advertisement San Antonio has drafted the last two Rookie of the Year award winners in Victor Wembanyama, who is already on a generational trajectory based on his development, and Stephon Castle. Wembanyama turned just 21 years old in January and was on track to make an All-NBA roster and win Defensive Player of the Year in his second professional season before a blood clot developed in his shoulder and cut his campaign short. The Spurs also recently traded for former All-Star guard De'Aaron Fox and own the No. 2 pick in the upcoming NBA draft, which is top-heavy with talent. Durant can provide San Antonio with both general shooting and clutch-time playmaking on offense, while adding another 7-foot presence on defense -- all of which should accelerate the championship timeline for a franchise with among the most respected front office groups and coaching staffs in the league. However, that is not enough for some people who think the Timberwolves might need a new voice in the locker room. For Polynice, he thinks the following Denver would be best for the Timberwolves because he feels free agent coach Michael Malone would do a better job coaching the team. It would be a logical move because of Malone's previous relationship with Timberwolves team president Tim Connelly, who was with the Nuggets a few seasons ago. However, that will not be a popular move in the Timberwolves locker room because Finch is a beloved figure. "You can only listen to your coach for so many years, and you might need a new voice. And that's one of the easier things for teams to do is to get rid of the one, instead of the team, so you just get rid of the coach, get a new voice in, a new energy, and see what happens," Polynice said on Fox Sports Radio. The Timberwolves Will Keep Pushing With Finch It has been a successful run for Finch and the Timberwolves, which is impressive because they were down in the dumps when he initially joined the team. However, the franchise believed in his vision, as he made Anthony Edwards his star player, resulting in unprecedented success with two-straight WCF appearances. Advertisement Of course, they are aiming for a higher achievement, which is making the NBA Finals and winning it. That did not happen in the 2025 postseason, but they are shooting for it in future seasons. It will be up to Connelly and the front office to provide support for the coaching staff and players. No matter what, they will be playing for a shot at winning the title, as the Timberwolves are already close enough to sniff that chance. The honor is presented to the NHL coach who is judged to have made the biggest contribution to a team's success. While attending what he thought was a season-ending interview, the 43-year-old Carbery was presented with the award by his wife, Casey, and their children, Hudson and Vivian. "Wow, I had no idea," a clearly stunned and choked-up Carbery said. If that weren't emotional enough for Carbery, extended family members from throughout the U.S. and Canada also were there to share in the moment. Carbery led the Capitals to a 51-22-9 (111 points) record this season as the team finished first in the Eastern Conference in his second season as Washington's coach. He got strong seasons out of a host of new players who were acquired in the offseason and improved on the team's offensive and defensive numbers. He kept the team winning while eventual all-time leading goal Alex Ovechkin missed 16 games with a broken leg. Carbery becomes the fourth coach in franchise history to win the award, joining Bryan Murray (1983-84), Bruce Boudreau (2007-08) and Barry Trotz (2015-16). He is also the first person recognized as coach of the year in the ECHL, American Hockey League and NHL. The members of the NHL Broadcasters' Association select the Jack Adams winner.
