May 17 Australia race analysis of last five Belmont races

New Paper16-05-2025

RACE 13
(5) WESTERN POWER has done it tough at two of his last three and yet still gone well. There is no speed in this, so we may expect to see a rare cerise-and-white (owner Bob Peters' colours) leader with jockey Lucy Fiore likely to roll forward on him.
(2) TRIO beat Western Power home last time they met, but concedes him 1.5kg for a nose margin and will likely concede him a decent head-start in running.
(1) CLASSIC ROGUE is ready to win. His first-up 1,000m effort was outstanding, his second-up 1,200m run even better and he is now third-up out to 1,600m. Re-handicapped race with a raised minimum does not suit him, but he is flying.
(6) BONDI PLUNGE is consistent.
RACE 15
(5) CATCH CARTER and (10) AMERICAN ESCAPE are both really well placed as three-year-olds taking on the older horses. Going to side up with Catch Carter, who drops 3kg from a Saturday three-year-old race behind Kay Tee Why, Desert Whisper and finishing ahead of subsequent winner Haida Gwaii into this Graduation 60+ where he can settle closer from a more favourable draw in two. American Escape put the writing on the wall with her three-length trial win and, on the minimum from an ideal barrier 4, will be hard to beat.
(2) SKY DUKE deserves to pinch another one this prep with the way he is going.
(3) LOST GRAVITY got a confidence-boosting win at Albany.
RACE 16
(7) BOHEMIAN DIAMOND won back-to-back races in emphatic fashion first-up and second-up last preparation, before being sent out as favourite from a horrible alley in a Westspeed Platinum race that contained Profit Pocket - that is huge market respect. Her recent trial was great and, from the draw, she will be able to park up just behind the speed. Looks like a mare who is ready to go through the grades.
(13) OCEAN GODDESS looks to be screaming out for further. It is only 100m but it will help.
(3) HAMMARMILL got the job done last start from three back on the fence and is likely to be in the same spot in this.
(6) VALDARENA improves second-up and to Belmont.
RACE 18
(16) TREBLE MAKER returned from a 16-month spell at Pinjarra on April 9 with a fast-finishing second in a Class 1 on a heavy leader-biased programme. Since then, she has put together two impressive victories in Kalgoorlie and now gets into the Racing WA Provincial Championship Series Final on the 54kg minimum from an ideal barrier 6. She has got a nice turn of foot and should enjoy a soft run.
(2) PLATINUM SHOT went around in a Graduation 60+ last start and worked to the line solidly behind capable stablemate Madame Magic.
(3) CAMERA ACTION is drawn in the carpark but is on the six-day spin.
(14) SECRET ATTIRE improves quickly in her preparation. Third at her last two starts.
RACE 20
(8) CORRECT CHOICE was back to his best last start with a sweeping victory over 1,500m in the last race at Ascot on May 3. Take away his one below-par run behind Blazing Emerald and he looks a progressive four-year-old who can continue on through the grades over winter. Great faith being shown in Brayden Gaerth throughout the entire programme.
(1) SPEED DREAM does not go at Ascot and yet last weekend, still rattled into second behind Siberian Siren. Belmont is his go.
(12) BLACK ORA was below her best last start and now rises from 1,000 to 1,400m. She is a really nice filly but that has to be a query.
(4) DUG ANOTHER HOLE has gone from a maiden to 59kg in a 66+ all in one prep. Super effort.

Cole Escola Wins Tony For 'Oh, Mary'

Cole Escola's first shot on Broadway has earned them one of the most coveted prizes in the theater world. At Sunday night's Tony Awards, the star of 'Oh, Mary!' scored the Tony for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Play for their delightfully daffy depiction of Civil War-era first lady Mary Todd Lincoln. Escola accepted the award in a gown inspired by a look worn by Broadway legend Bernadette Peters wore to the 1999 ceremony. In their speech, they cheekily thanked a Grindr match as well as actor-comedian Amy Sedaris, who 'always reminds me how important she is to me, and she is.' 'Oh, Mary!', a campy revisionist one-act play set in the days leading up to President Abraham Lincoln's assassination, paints the first lady as a petulant, puckish troublemaker who tries to drink her woes away. She yearns to leave the White House to become a cabaret star. Last month, Escola, who was not only the lead of 'Oh, Mary!' but also penned the crowd-pleaser, told NPR how they related to the first lady and her offbeat ambitions. 'This play is about a woman with a dream that no one around her understands. A dream that the whole world is telling her is stupid and doesn't make any sense. And I feel that way.' Escola also told NPR how they began imagining the concept over a decade ago during their early days in New York's cabaret and alt comedy scenes. 'I had the thought: What if Abraham Lincoln's assassination wasn't such a bad thing for Mary Todd?' they recalled. 'And it was just an idea that tickled me so much.' 'Oh, Mary!' officially came to life when it debuted off-Broadway in January 2024. After rave reviews extended its run several times, the show made its way to the theater world's main drag in Manhattan that June. Escola took a break from playing Mary Todd in January, handing off the role to Betty Gilpin ('GLOW') and Tituss Burgess. The 'Difficult People' actor stepped back into the first lady's shoes for a brief run in early April before passing the torch back to Burgess for a limited six-week engagement, which will begin June 23. With their win, Escola becomes the first openly nonbinary performer to earn a Tony Award in their category, and for a role they authored themselves. In 2022, British composer Toby Marlow and producer JJ Maley became the first-ever nonbinary people to earn Tony Awards. Marlow won for their work on the musical 'Six,' while Maley was one of the producers of 'A Strange Loop,' the 2023 winner for best musical. Performers Sara Ramírez and KO both won Tonys in the best actress in a musical category before coming out as nonbinary. As Cole Escola's 'Oh, Mary!' Steelers Could Make Huge Splash With Former Aaron Rodgers Teammate

With Aaron Rodgers now onboard, there are major expectations for the team this year. Now that Rodgers has signed with the Steelers, the team should go all-in on winning this season. He's on a one-year deal, which could mean that the team has a one-year window to win a championship. Keeping that in mind, there is a new potential move that has come available for Pittsburgh to make a big splash to improve their chances of contending for a Super Bowl. Read more: Steelers' Aaron Rodgers Has Chance at Massive NFL Milestone Jacob Camenker of USA Today has named Pittsburgh as one of the top potential landing spots for recently released and former Green Bay Packers star cornerback Jaire Alexander. "The Steelers are loading up for a potential Super Bowl run after signing Aaron Rodgers to a one-year deal. Could they target Alexander, his former teammate, to help provide depth and talent at cornerback?" Camenker wrote. "Pittsburgh already added two veteran corners to its roster during the offseason in Darius Slay and Brandin Echols, but at this stage in his career, Alexander is better than both. The Steelers could consider signing him and having him split playing time with the 34-year-old Slay to keep both healthy long-term." Alexander has had injury issues that have derailed his career. He has played in just seven games in each of the last two seasons. However, the numbers that he produced in just seven games last season show the amount of talent that he possesses. He racked up 16 tackles, a fumble recovery, two interceptions, a defensive touchdown, and seven defended passes. Read more: Bills Attempted to Pull Off Major Trade With Packers: Report Taking a low-risk, potentially sky high reward on Alexander would be well worth it for the Steelers. At the very worst, the team could just move on from him following the 2025 season. Should things work out, Alexander would take the Pittsburgh defense to the next level. His playmaking would be a welcome addition, and his sticky coverage would be valuable in an AFC North division with high-powered offenses. It may not be something the Steelers are interested in, but Alexander would make a lot of sense as a late offseason target. For more Pittsburgh Steelers and NFL news, head over to Newsweek Sports.

Every Morning Rooster Does One Thing Guaranteed To Send Dog Into 'A Frenzy'

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. A rooster in Florida has found the perfect way to troll his owner's dog each and every morning without fail. Footage of Bob the rooster's surefire technique for ensuring Kristin's dog, Scrappy Doo, more than lives up to his name was captured on a Ring camera device, with the video later shared with Newsweek. Kristin, who only gave her first name, lives with Scrappy Doo, Bob and the rest of his chicken flock in Callahan, told Ring: "Every morning, our rooster Bob struts up to the Ring camera to trigger an Alexa alert that sends our dog Scrappy Doo into a frenzy, only to find Bob and his chicken crew menacingly staring through the glass, laughing." Dogs rank among the most naturally friendly animal species, but that wasn't always the case. A rooster has found a unique way to troll his owner's dog. A rooster has found a unique way to troll his owner's dog. Ring In 2017, a study in the journal Science Advances concluded this friendliness may have been a result of genetic changes over an extended period of time. Researchers reached that conclusion following a study comparing the behavior of domestic dogs and grey wolves, which canines evolved from tens of thousands of years ago. The tests centered on problem-solving and sociability, throwing up some interesting results. While the wolves were better at problem solving and an experiment involving the retrieval of sausage pieces from a lunchbox, canines were much friendlier to humans, compared to wolves who were seen as more aloof. DNA tests conducted as part of the study also identified a potential link between genetic changes and improvements in social behavior. But while dogs might be friendly enough, Bob, who is a 2-and-a-half-year-old who is a mix of Polish and Aseel chickens, appears to relish his role as chief antagonizer around the house. "This taunting and harassment has been occurring for over 2 years now," Kristin said. "Bob also encourages our chickens, Karen, Flo, Eunice, and Matilda to participate." Kristin does her best to try and put a stop to the harassment. "I still tell Bob to stop being naughty through the Two-Way Talk feature," she said. Kristin also makes a point of speaking to Bob directly through the camera saying: "Good morning, and to leave Scrappy alone and stop being naughty" Unfortunately for both Scrappy Doo, and Kristin, Bob's behavior shows no signs of abating, which is a shame, given the number of sweet relationships between dogs and feathered friends that have previously been caught on camera. There was the golden retriever filmed enjoying a little playtime with his owner's chickens in what has become a regular occurrence. Then there was the dog who went viral after somehow convincing a rooster and a flock of chickens to come home with him from an outdoor adventure. On a similar note, in July last year a farm dog struck up the most unusual of friendships with a fawn, sparking delight in the process. Given these examples and many more besides. Kristin may not have given up hope of Bob and Scrappy Doo bonding quite yet.
