5 Reasons Myrtle Beach Is the Ideal Spot for Family Fun

You want a destination that offers something for everyone, whether that's relaxing on the beach, finding exciting activities for the kids, or enjoying memorable moments together as a family. With so many options out there, choosing the right spot can be overwhelming. You want a place that's fun but also easy to navigate, with activities that fit a variety of interests and ages. But if you're looking for a place that checks every box, Myrtle Beach should be at the top of your list.
Located along South Carolina's stunning coastline, Myrtle Beach combines sunny skies, sandy shores, and endless entertainment. It's one of those rare destinations where parents can unwind, kids can play, and everyone can enjoy unforgettable experiences together. From beautiful beaches to live entertainment and outdoor adventures, Myrtle Beach has it all. Here are five reasons why it's the perfect place for family fun.
Unforgettable Live Entertainment for All Ages
Family vacations are all about creating lasting memories, and Myrtle Beach's live entertainment scene offers something truly special. From action-packed performances to awe-inspiring acrobatics, the area's shows provide fun for the whole family. If you're looking for a way to keep everyone entertained while enjoying a unique night out together, Myrtle Beach shows offer more than just evening entertainment; they create immersive, family-friendly experiences that leave lasting memories for all ages.
One standout attraction is the Pirates Voyage Dinner & Show, where guests enjoy a thrilling evening of sword fights, stunts, and live animals, all while dining on a hearty meal. Pirates Voyage offers a family-friendly atmosphere where the audience becomes part of the action. With acrobatics, diving, and pirate battles, it's no wonder families keep coming back for more.
Beautiful Beaches Perfect for Relaxation and Play
Of course, no visit to Myrtle Beach would be complete without spending time on the sand. Stretching for over 60 miles, the Grand Strand's soft beaches and gentle waves make it a perfect destination for families. Whether you're building sandcastles with your kids, wading in the water, or simply soaking up the sun with a good book, the beach offers a little something for everyone.
The beaches here are family-friendly, with many areas monitored by lifeguards and offering amenities like restrooms, picnic spots, and rental equipment for activities like paddleboarding or boogie boarding. For younger kids, the gentle surf provides a safe place to splash and play, while older children can enjoy tossing a frisbee, flying a kite, or trying out water sports.
Attractions and Amusements for Every Interest
Beyond the beach, Myrtle Beach is packed with attractions that appeal to all ages and interests. One of the highlights is the Myrtle Beach SkyWheel, a towering Ferris wheel that offers breathtaking views of the coastline. It's a fun way to see the area from a different perspective, and it's suitable for even the youngest family members.
For thrill-seekers, the area has amusement parks and water parks filled with roller coasters, wave pools, and slides. Family Kingdom Amusement Park, located right on the oceanfront, is a favorite for its mix of classic rides and seaside views. If you're looking for a more relaxed activity, head to Ripley's Aquarium, where you can wander through underwater tunnels surrounded by sharks, rays, and colorful fish.
Mini-golf is another staple in Myrtle Beach, with dozens of creative courses to choose from. Whether it's a pirate-themed course or a jungle adventure, mini-golf is an easy and fun way to spend time together as a family.
Outdoor Adventures in Nature
Myrtle Beach isn't just about the ocean and amusements. The area is home to beautiful natural landscapes, providing families with the opportunity to explore and connect with nature. Myrtle Beach State Park and Huntington Beach State Park offer scenic trails, picnic areas, and fishing spots. These parks are perfect for a day away from the crowds, where you can take a peaceful walk through maritime forests, spot local wildlife, or enjoy a beachfront picnic.
If your family loves outdoor adventures, there are plenty of options. Go kayaking or paddleboarding along the Intracoastal Waterway, where you might spot dolphins or herons along the way. Bike rentals are available for exploring the parks or scenic paths along the coastline. These outdoor experiences provide a change of pace and give kids a chance to learn about the local environment while having fun.
Dining Options That Please Everyone
No family vacation is complete without great food, and Myrtle Beach delivers on that front, too. With its diverse dining scene, there's something to satisfy every palate, from fresh seafood to hearty Southern fare and everything in between. Many restaurants along the boardwalk offer oceanfront views, making every meal feel like part of the vacation experience.
Seafood buffets are a staple here, offering crab legs, shrimp, and other favorites that both kids and adults can enjoy. But if seafood isn't your thing, there are plenty of family-friendly spots serving burgers, pizza, pasta, and more. Many restaurants cater to kids with special menus and casual atmospheres, so dining out feels easy and enjoyable.
For dessert, don't miss out on the local ice cream shops or bakeries, perfect for an after-dinner treat as you stroll along the boardwalk or take in the evening sights.
When it comes to family vacations, Myrtle Beach has everything you need to create lasting memories. From exciting shows like Pirates Voyage Dinner & Show to relaxing days on the beach, thrilling attractions, outdoor adventures, and delicious dining options, this destination truly offers something for every member of the family.
It's the kind of place where the days are filled with adventure, the evenings bring unforgettable entertainment, and the time spent together becomes the highlight of the year. If you're looking for a vacation spot that's easy to plan and filled with fun, Myrtle Beach is ready to welcome your family with open arms.

Double, double, lots of bubbles

Close to 90 kids and parents were entertained by Megan the Bubbleologist's Bubble-tastic-show for the summer reading program kickoff Saturday at the Mariners branch of the Newport Beach Library. Megan McIver, who has been performing for children and families for more than 20 years kept her audience engaged with her bubble tricks for almost an hour. The children sat shoulder-to-shoulder on the floor as close as possible to the staging area of the bubble show in the Victor Jorgensen Community Room adjacent to the library. As the bubbles grew in size, so did the kids' enthusiasm, shifting from captivated wonder to spirited excitement once the mega-size bubbles made their way into the audience. They laughed and cheered as they swatted, chased and blew the bubbles to the ceiling. Megan then selected 10 children from the audience to join the the grand finale of the show. Each child had a turn at being wrapped inside their own bubble. Four-year-old Quinn Hill of Newport Beach acknowledged that she not only liked bubbles, but also noted that standing inside one made her feel, well, like she was in a bubble. 'It was very interesting, I think she had their attention the entire time,' said Quinn's mom, Kathleen Hill. 'What kid doesn't like bubbles?' Special events are planned along with different themes each week until Aug. 2 as part of the library's children's summer reading program for babies to those entering 6th grade.
