Carlos Sainz fumes at Isack Hadjar for 'destroying' F1 Canadian GP qualifying
Carlos Sainz was left fuming after he claimed Isack Hadjar impeded him during qualifying for the Canadian Grand Prix, which meant Williams driver was eliminated in Q1. Having looked strong over practice, Sainz felt his race weekend was left in tatters by Hadjar and hit out at the Racing Bulls driver over team radio. The Frenchman defended his driving and claimed that he thought Sainz had aborted his lap. Advertisement Sainz missed out on Q2 by less than a tenth of a second and was still upset when speaking to the media following his elimination. 'Well, I don't care if I was fast. If in Q1 you arrive and there's a guy in the middle of the road that completely blows your qualifying away and that means that your weekend is destroyed,' he said. 'I'm in P17 when I should be fighting for Q3 and top eight today, so I'm extremely disappointed. 'And then I realised going into Turn 5, he's not getting out of the way, I have to lift and I have to overtake him in the inside of six. "I lost another two or three tenths there, so three or four tenths just in that lap, which is anyway a lap that is 20 milliseconds from Q2. That was the margin we had today. 'So, it's honestly very frustrating, but it's what it is.' Basically, I had to do a wet line in a corner. 'Honestly, I don't care right now, we've been quick all weekend, we were quick in race pace, but we're still not where we want to be.' Hadjar, meanwhile, impressed once again as he eventually progressed through to Q3 qualifying in ninth. But, he was still left a little downbeat as the Frenchman took responsibility on behalf of his team for the incident. Advertisement 'I never impede anyone, not even in practice,' said Hadjar, 'I got told Carlos had aborted his lap, and in fact he was still pushing. So, complete miscommunication from what I got told. It's a shame, it ruins his qualifying and probably a bit mine.' One of the biggest differences from last year to this year has been Brad Marchand, who came over at the trade deadline. The former Bruins captain is going to hit NHL free agency on July 1 and should have plenty of suitors. The Athletic's Pierre LeBrun theorized that Marchand could join the Toronto Maple Leafs in free agency after a dominant postseason. Advertisement '…I do believe the Toronto Maple Leafs will be among the possibilities for Marchand. I mean, he mentioned during the second-round series with Toronto that he grew up a Leafs fan. But to be clear, there are multiple teams in play for Marchand if and when he hits the market.' LeBrun references Marchand's press conference after the Panthers' 6-1 win in Game 7 against the Leafs. He spoke about how he grew up a Toronto fan and believes the pressure from the fanbase causes some of the poor playoff performances. The Maple Leafs will have cap space, with Mitch Marner potentially leaving the team in free agency. For years, Marchand has been a thorn in Toronto's side. He has been on the team that eliminated the Maple Leafs five different times in his career. That includes this year, when he dropped three points in Game 7. With Marner likely leaving, the Maple Leafs need some scoring. Marchand can provide that, while giving them a physical edge to help in the postseason. But LeBrun says there is no guarantee that Marchand leaves Florida. 'The door isn't closed on staying with the Florida Panthers, but with pending unrestricted free agent and Conn Smythe contender Sam Bennett a top priority for the Panthers and Aaron Ekblad also a pending UFA, it's probably most likely Marchand is going to market where total dollars will be the top priority moreso than the actual average annual value. I think he's going to get three or four years and easily north of $8 million a year.'

Mullins and Sánchez hit back-to-back home runs to key Orioles' 6-5 victory over Angels
Cedric Mullins and Gary Sánchez hit back-to-back home runs to give Baltimore the lead and Félix Bautista finished off the Orioles' 6-5 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday with his second straight save. Mullins hit his 11th home run, a two-run shot off Angels starter Tyler Anderson in the sixth, and Sánchez followed with his first homer with the Orioles for a 6-4 lead. Bautista topped 100 mph for the first time since 2023 on a fastball to Mike Trout before Trout flied to right field for the second out in the ninth. Bautista walked Taylor Ward before striking out Logan O'Hoppe on the ninth pitch of the at-bat and his 22nd pitch in the inning. Bautista has 14 saves in 15 opportunities. Trout homered high off the foul pole in left field after Zach Neto drew a leadoff walk from Orioles starter Tomoyuki Sugano to give the Angels a 2-0 lead in the first. It was his 11th home run this season and the 389th of his career. LA's Luis Rengifo hit solo homers from both sides of the plate for the third time in his career after entering with just one on the season. He homered off lefty Keegan Akin to give the Angels a 4-3 lead in the sixth and again off right-hander Andrew Kittredge in the eighth to cut it to 6-5. Gunnar Henderson and Jordan Westburg had RBI singles in the third to give the Orioles a 3-2 lead. Anderson (2-4) allowed six runs on nine hits in five innings. He is 0-4 in 10 starts since beating the Giants on April 18. Sugano gave up three runs on six hits in 4 2/3 innings. Akin (2-0) got four outs, including the final one in the fifth with the bases loaded to keep it tied at 3. Mullins has been involved in three of the Orioles' six back-to-back homers this season. Baltimore rookie Coby Mayo had his first multi-hit game, going 2 for 4 with a double for his first extra-base hit at home.
