Falcons sign WR Jamal Agnew to 1-year deal
March 21 - The Atlanta Falcons signed wide receiver and return specialist Jamal Agnew on Thursday. It is a one-year deal worth up to $2.5 million, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.
Agnew spent the 2024 season on the Pittsburgh Steelers' practice squad while recovering from a leg injury.
The wideout was a fifth-round pick by the Detroit Lions in 2017 and quickly made a name for himself as a return man. In his rookie campaign, he led the NFL in punt return yards (447), punt return touchdowns (two), and yards per punt return (15.4). As a result, he was named a first-team All-Pro.
Agnew, 29, signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2021, where he received more opportunities on offense. In three seasons with the franchise, Agnew totaled 61 receptions for 641 yards and five touchdowns. In addition, he saw time in the backfield with 23 carries for 195 yards and a score.
The versatile playmaker also continued making an impact in the return game. In 2022, Agnew earned his first Pro Bowl nod after recording 205 punt return yards and 547 kick return yards.
Agnew is coming off a major injury sustained in Week 17 of the 2023 season, but he has the potential to jolt the Falcons' return game. Last season, Atlanta ranked 20th in yards per kick return (26.4) and 17th in yards per punt return (9.5).

Reports: Falcons expect QB Kirk Cousins to be at minicamp
June 9 - Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins is expected to attend Atlanta's mandatory minicamp starting Tuesday, according to multiple reports Monday. Cousins has expressed a desire to find a starting role elsewhere after finishing last season as the backup to Michael Penix Jr. However, the Falcons have been reluctant to trade him without getting a significant return. Atlanta signed Cousins to a four-year, $180 million contract with $100 million guaranteed before the 2024 season, then selected Penix with the eighth overall pick in the draft. The Falcons started last season 6-3, but a nosedive Cousins told NFL Network coincided with a shoulder injury prompted Atlanta coach Raheem Morris to turn the offense over to Penix with three games left in the regular season. Penix went 1-2. Cousins, who turns 37 in mid-August, attended several of Atlanta's voluntary organized team activities in late May though he did not practice. Penix is the team's No. 1 quarterback entering the new season. The Falcons also have Easton Stick and Emory Jones on their depth chart. Cousins threw for 3,508 yards, 18 touchdowns and a career-high 16 interceptions in 14 starts last season. The four-time Pro Bowl selection was a starter in Washington and Minnesota before joining Atlanta. --Field Level Media

Revealed: The two quarterbacks Pittsburgh Steelers failed to sign before turning to Aaron Rodgers
The Pittsburgh Steelers tried to retain Justin Fields and court Matthew Stafford to the East Coast before committing to Aaron Rodgers as the team's next starting quarterback. Rodgers being the Steelers third choice for 2025 was revealed after the 41-year-old ended his months-long NFL exile and signed with Pittsburgh last week. Fields opted to take Rodgers' old spot and start for the New York Jets under new head coach Aaron Glenn. Stafford appeared briefly on the trade block before the Los Angeles Rams made sure he wanted to stay in Hollywood. The Steelers' process to land on Rodgers had the four-time MVP as their primary target was in place for months, as the other duo committed away from the Steel City in March, per ESPN. Rodgers only signed a 1-year contract with the team, due to his age, meaning the long-term answer at quarterback for Pittsburgh is likely still not on the team's roster. For this year, the Rodgers' show comes to Pittsburgh, with plenty of competition from the rest of the AFC. Rodgers is likely inserted as the Steelers No 1 quarterback for the season, with any talk of a competition with Mason Rudolph or Will Howard holding zero weight, as neither have had NFL success. Last month, the momentum behind Rudolph being the starter as at an all-time high after he appeared at a rally for President Donald Trump. Rudolph, alongside safety Miles Killebrew, and four-time Super Bowl champion Rocky Bleier, gave Trump a personalized Steelers jersey. Trump also gave his two cents on Pittsburgh's quarterback situation, endorsing Rudolph. 'I happen to think a really good quarterback is a man named Mason Rudolph,' Trump said. 'I think he's gonna get a big shot. He's tall, he's handsome, he's got a great arm. And I have a feeling he's gonna be the guy.'

Report: Dolphins CB Jalen Ramsey will not attend minicamp
June 8 - Miami Dolphins cornerback Jalen Ramsey does not plan to attend the team's mandatory minicamp this week while the club continues to seek a trade, NFL Network reported on Sunday. Dolphins general manager Chris Grier said prior to the 2025 NFL Draft that Ramsey didn't request a trade, but they came to the joint realization that a potential move makes sense following several conversations about his contract. Ramsey, 30, signed a three-year contract extension in September 2024 and then started all 17 games for Miami. Grier didn't select a cornerback until the 150th pick in April's draft -- Florida's Jason Marshall Jr. Ramsey is guaranteed $25.1 million in 2025, but a new team would owe him $21.1 million since the Dolphins already have paid his $4 million roster bonus. Ramsey came to Miami in March 2023 in a trade with the Los Angeles Rams for a third-round pick and tight end Hunter Long. Ramsey missed the first seven games that season with a knee injury, but he still made the Pro Bowl for the seventh time. --Field Level Media
