Nightmare for Tesla shareholders as $150 billion wiped out in market value after Elon Musk and Donald Trump's Public fight, Big fear is: Trump is not going to play ...
Tesla shares plunged more than 14% on Thursday, wiping out $150 billion in market value, as a public spat between CEO Elon Musk and President Donald Trump intensified, raising fears of regulatory backlash against the electric vehicle maker. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The sell-off followed a heated exchange over Trump's budget bill, which turned personal when Musk claimed Trump's election victory depended on his support. Trump retaliated on Truth Social, writing, 'The easiest way to save money in our Budget, Billions and Billions of Dollars, is to terminate Elon's Governmental Subsidies and Contracts,' hinting at targeting Musk's companies, including Tesla and SpaceX. The market's reaction was swift, with Tesla's stock drop erasing more value than the market capitalization of Starbucks or many other major U.S. companies. The decline partially reversed a surge since November, when investors poured hundreds of billions into Tesla stock, betting Trump's administration would ease regulations and support Musk's vision for autonomous 'robotaxi' services. Wedbush Securities analyst Dan Ives, a Tesla bull, expressed concern to the AP, stating, 'The whole goal of robotaxis is to have them in 20 or 25 cities next year. If you start to heighten the regulatory environment, that could delay that path.' Ives added, 'There is a fear that Trump is not going to play Mr. Nice Guy.' The feud also casts a shadow over SpaceX, Musk's privately held rocket company, which relies on billions in NASA contracts for lunar missions and International Space Station operations. SpaceX's Starlink subsidiary has recently secured deals in Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, and elsewhere, potentially aided by Musk's ties to Trump. A recent private financing round reportedly valued SpaceX at $350 billion, up from $210 billion a year ago. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Tesla's stock had soared post-election, gaining over $450 billion in value as investors anticipated regulatory leniency. However, Thursday's losses hit Musk personally, slashing his Tesla holdings by $20 billion in a single day, the AP reported. With Tesla's robotaxi testing set to begin in Austin, Texas, this month, investors now worry that Trump's threats could jeopardize the company's ambitious driverless car plans, critical to its future amid struggles in its core electric vehicle business.

Trump no longer Mr Nice Guy for Elon Musk! The war of words that blew $150 billion off Tesla's worth
Tesla shares dropped more than 14% on Thursday, wiping out $152 billion in market value in just three hours. The collapse marked Tesla's worst trading day ever, fuelled by a fierce exchange of words between CEO Elon Musk and former US President Donald Trump . The clash has alarmed investors, who had earlier bet heavily on Musk's companies gaining from close ties with the Trump administration. That bet is now under threat. Fallout began over Budget bill The dispute started when Musk slammed the latest government budget bill, calling it a 'disgusting abomination.' In response, Trump took to his platform Truth Social, writing, 'The easiest way to save money in our Budget, Billions and Billions of Dollars, is to terminate Elon's Governmental Subsidies and Contracts. I was always surprised that Biden didn't do it!' This threat cut deep. Tesla's value plunged, dipping below the $1 trillion mark and ending Thursday at $916 billion. The sell-off reversed gains made in recent weeks, during which Tesla stock had risen more than 22% following Musk's announcement of an upcoming robotaxi launch in Austin, Texas. Investors now spooked about Robotaxi plans Tesla's driverless car ambitions were seen as a much-needed boost for the EV giant, especially with its traditional car sales showing signs of struggle. But now, analysts worry that a hostile White House could slow down regulatory approvals. Live Events 'The whole goal of robotaxis is to have them in 20 or 25 cities next year,' said Dan Ives of Wedbush Securities. 'If you start to heighten the regulatory environment, that could delay that path.' He added, 'There is a fear that Trump is not going to play Mr. Nice Guy.' SpaceX also in the crosshairs While Tesla took the immediate hit, Trump's threats also appear to target SpaceX. Musk's rocket company has received billions in federal contracts, including crucial NASA missions to send astronauts to the Moon next year. The subsidiary Starlink, which provides satellite internet, recently secured operating rights in Saudi Arabia during a trip with Trump. That deal followed similar moves in Bangladesh, Pakistan, and India, as diplomatic efforts aligned with commercial interests. Now, that trajectory may be jeopardised. From friends to foes Trump voiced frustration from the Oval Office, saying, 'Elon and I had a great relationship. I don't know if we will anymore. I was surprised.' He claimed Musk was overreacting to the removal of electric vehicle credits in the new budget, saying, 'Elon was 'wearing thin,' I asked him to leave, I took away his EV Mandate that forced everyone to buy Electric Cars that nobody else wanted (that he knew for months I was going to do!), and he just went CRAZY!' Musk, known for not backing down, responded on X (formerly Twitter), 'Whatever.' He also wrote, 'Without me, Trump would have lost the election, Dems would control the House and the Republicans would be 51-49 in the Senate.' The row escalated as Musk appeared to call for Trump's impeachment. He threatened to decommission Dragon, SpaceX's spacecraft used by NASA, only to pull back hours later, writing, 'Good advice. Ok, we won't decommission Dragon.' But Musk then made an explosive claim, suggesting Trump may appear in unreleased Jeffrey Epstein files. No evidence was provided. Karoline Leavitt, Trump's press secretary, responded mildly: 'This is an unfortunate episode from Elon, who is unhappy with the One Big Beautiful Bill because it does not include the policies he wanted.' Since their very public fallout, Tesla's stock has fallen nearly 18% this week alone. For the year, it's down close to 30%. Shares had peaked on 18 December at $488.54. Thursday's crash also dealt a blow to Musk personally. His paper losses stood at $20 billion for the day. Investors are now questioning the future of Musk's business empire, with both Tesla's robotaxi launch and SpaceX's moon mission now in uncertain territory. What happens when the most powerful politician in the US and the world's richest man go head-to-head? Wall Street just got its answer.

Tesla stock price crash wipes out $150 billion! Investors dump Elon Musk's company as clash with Donald Trump escalates; fear US President won't be a ‘nice guy'
Investor confidence appears shaken, resulting in substantial paper losses for Musk's personal Tesla shareholding, dropping $20 billion in a single day. (AI image) Tesla share price crash: Elon Musk and Donald Trump's escalating spat has wiped out a whopping $150 billion from Tesla's market cap. Tesla's share price crashed over 14% as shareholders hastily sold their positions during an escalating verbal dispute between the US President Donald Trump and the Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who is currently the wealthiest individual globally. The day's trading concluded with Tesla's market value reduced by $150 billion, an amount that exceeds the total market capitalisation of Starbucks and several other major US-listed corporations! Following Donald Trump's election, investors poured vast sums into Tesla shares, prioritising political considerations over financial performance. The consequences of this strategy became evident on Thursday when within three hours, the situation took a dramatic turn! What's gone wrong between Musk & Trump? The conflict originated from discussions about the president's budget legislation before intensifying rapidly. Following Musk's assertion regarding his role in Trump's electoral victory, Trump suggested potential governmental actions against Musk's enterprises, including Tesla and SpaceX. Trump expressed his views on Truth Social, stating: "The easiest way to save money in our Budget, Billions and Billions of Dollars, is to terminate Elon's Governmental Subsidies and Contracts. I was always surprised that Biden didn't do it!" Also Read | 'Electric cars that nobody else wanted…': Donald Trump's shocking words on Elon Musk; says Biden should have terminated Musk's subsidies Tesla share price crash: Where's the stock headed? Tesla share price crash on Thursday partly offset a significant increase that occurred during the eight-week period after Musk announced Tesla's plans to launch an autonomous, driverless "robotaxi" service in Austin, Texas, this month. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trading CFD dengan Teknologi dan Kecepatan Lebih Baik IC Markets Mendaftar Undo The market participants are concerned that Trump's potential stance might slow down the advancement of autonomous vehicles in the United States, which could adversely affect Tesla. The company's current electric vehicle business faces challenges, making it crucial for them to swiftly transition into the era of driverless vehicles. "The whole goal of robotaxis is to have them in 20 or 25 cities next year," said Wedbush Securities analyst Dan Ives, a prominent Tesla supporter who now expresses concern. "If you start to heighten the regulatory environment, that could delay that path,' Ives said according to an Associated Press report. He further stated, "There is a fear that Trump is not going to play Mr. Nice Guy." The situation appears precarious now. Initially, Tesla's stock benefited substantially from Musk's association with Trump. Following the November presidential election, investor enthusiasm drove Tesla's market value up by over $450 billion within weeks. Investors anticipated substantial gains from reduced regulatory oversight under Trump's administration and were optimistic about Musk's autonomous vehicle initiatives for American roads. The shares peaked on December 17, but subsequently declined when Musk's leadership of a government efficiency committee sparked boycotts and damaged Tesla's image. The stock has recently rebounded after Musk announced his renewed focus on Tesla and its forthcoming autonomous taxi service. Currently, investor confidence appears shaken, resulting in substantial paper losses for Musk's personal Tesla shareholding, dropping $20 billion in a single day. SpaceX in trouble? The potential reduction in government contracts appears to majorly affect SpaceX rather than Tesla. SpaceX, a private space enterprise, has secured substantial NASA funding for International Space Station missions, including astronaut transport, cargo delivery, and various space operations. The company is currently developing a large-scale rocket for NASA's upcoming lunar mission scheduled for next year. Starlink, operating as a SpaceX division specialising in satellite internet services, has seemingly profited from Musk's previous cordial relationship with Trump. During his Middle Eastern visit with Trump last month, Musk revealed Saudi Arabia's approval for Starlink's aviation and maritime operations. Although the influence of political factors remains uncertain, recent agreements in Bangladesh, Pakistan, India and other nations have emerged amid Trump's tariff warnings and diplomatic pressures. SpaceX's recent achievements are reflected in its valuation, which reached $350 billion through private financing and share sales, marking a significant increase from $210 billion in the previous year.
