Talk to us: How has marriage equality impacted your life?

Later this month, marriage equality officially turns 10 in the U.S. A decade ago, on June 26, 2015, the Supreme Court ruled that marriage equality was the law of the land and that same-sex couples had the legal right to a marriage equal to different-sex couples. The Advocate wants to hear from couples and individuals about what marriage equality means to you. Where were you when you heard the news? What did you think? For this editor-in-chief, I remember sitting in an office near the city center of Belgrade, Serbia, at the non-governmental organization I worked with. I distinctly recall my boss telling me about the news, and me going online to read as much as I could about it. The Supreme Court decision has been seen as one of the most important legal wins in LGBTQ+ rights in the U.S. It's also a court case that some want to overturn. That includes Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, who, in a concurring opinion that ended federal abortion rights in the U.S., specified Obergefell v. Hodges as another case the high court should go back to. Republican-controlled states have also tried to pass resolutions backing that option. So what kind of stories are we looking for? We're looking for stories about how the decision affected relationships, understandings of marriage, decisions around marriage, and more. We're looking for personal stories about how the decision affected lives, and also about concerns about marriage equality's future. Did you run to the courthouse with your partner to get hitched after hearing the news? Did you change how you felt about marriage? Did family members start pressuring you to marry? We want to hear it all. If you think you have a story to tell, fill in the form below, and The Advocate may use the information you provided in a future story or to speak to you more about your experience. Your information won't be used in any other capacity.
