Nelly Korda skips champions dinner at Women's PGA with sore neck, says she will be ready Thursday

Washington Post5 hours ago

FRISCO, Texas — Nelly Korda skipped the champions dinner before the KPMG Women's PGA Championship because of a sore neck that flared up after the world's No. 1 player took a shot out of the rough during a practice round.
Korda had therapeutic tape on the back of her neck when she spoke to the media Tuesday after playing again at PGA Frisco's Fields Ranch East course. Korda, who late last year skipped two tournaments during the LPGA's Asia swing because of a minor neck injury, said she will be ready for the start of the season's third major on Thursday.

Phillies pitcher Aaron Nola sidelined 2 more weeks with rib injury

Philadelphia Phillies right-hander Aaron Nola suffered another setback in his return to pitch when an MRI showed he has an injury in his right ribcage and will be shut down for two weeks. Nola had already been out since early May with a sprained right ankle that was progressing more slowly than expected. He experienced stiffness in his right side last week in Toronto and that wiped out a planned session against live batters. Nola underwent testing this week and had what the Phillies called a stress reaction in his right ribcage. Phillies manager Rob Thomson said ahead of Tuesday's game against the Chicago Cubs that Nola was unsure how the injury may have happened. Nola is 1-7 with a 6.16 ERA in nine starts. Nola, who signed a $172 million, seven-year contract ahead of the 2024 season, injured his ankle on May 8 during pregame agility drills when the Phillies played the Tampa Bay Rays at Steinbrenner Field. Nola is 105-86 with a 3.78 ERA in 11 seasons with the Phillies. Thomson said slugger Bryce Harper was starting to feel better as he recovers from right wrist inflammation that last Friday landed him on the 10-day injured list. The two-time National League MVP and eight-time All-Star is hitting .258 with nine home runs, 34 RBIs and eight stolen bases in 57 games. He missed five games, from May 26 to June 2, with a bruised right elbow after being hit by a pitch from Atlanta's Spencer Strider. Reporting by The Associated Press. Phillies' Nick Castellanos relegated to the bench after 'inappropriate comment,' manager Rob Thomson says

Nick Castellanos found himself in unfamiliar territory during the first pitch of the Philadelphia Phillies game against the Miami Marlins on Tuesday. The Phillies outfielder was engaged in a heated exchange with Philadelphia manager Rob Thomson during the team's 5-2 victory over the Marlins on Monday. Shortly before the start of the second game of the four-game series between the NL East division rivals, Thomson told reporters that Castellanos would be withheld from Tuesday's starting lineup. Thomson cited an "inappropriate comment" Castellanos made, which appeared to prompt the manager to sit the star right fielder for at least one game. The comment in question was made at some point after Castellanos was pulled from Monday's contest. "One of the many things about Nick that I love is that he's very emotional," Thomson said. "He loves to play, and he loves to play every inning of every game. I just thought last night he made an inappropriate comment after he came out, and so today, he's not going to play. And I'm going to leave it at that." Max Kepler moved from his post in centerfield to handle right field duties for Castellanos. Meanwhile, Johan Rojas became the game's new centerfielder. Kepler started in right field on Tuesday in Miami. Castellanos said he was less than pleased about being pulled from Monday's game. "I wasn't happy about it. Spoke my mind," Castellanos said, per the Philadelphia Inquirer. "He said that I crossed a line. So, my punishment is I'm not playing." He also acknowledged that the manager has the final say on who does and doesn't play in a particular game. "It's his decision. He's the manager," Castellanos said, according to The Athletic. Castellanos inked a massive, five-year contract with the Phillies in 2022. The 33-year-old outfielder has a .278 batting average and has hit seven home runs in 72 games this season. Prior to Tuesday, Castellanos hadn't missed a game since Sept. 30, 2023. Follow Fox News Digital's sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.
