Fox News hilariously defends Trump over ‘TACO' insult: ‘He's the bravest man in the world!'

Independent2 days ago

The code that Wall Street traders are now using to describe Donald Trump's tactic of backing out of his trade policy threats whenever they cause the stock market to tumble has not only rattled the president, but has his most loyal sycophants at Fox News scrambling to defend him against the insulting nickname.
With investors now engaging in 'TACO' trades, which is shorthand for 'Trump Always Chickens Out' when it comes to actually imposing his massive tariffs, Democratic lawmakers have now taken to social media to mock the president by filming themselves munching down on tacos.
Amid the widespread mockery of the president by Democrats and liberal media figures, not to mention the president's own complaints about the 'nasty' term, a number of hosts and commentators at Fox News – which essentially serves as the White House's unofficial communications arm – have circled the wagons to blast the 'cringey' insult.
And one way they have done that is to insist that there's no way that Trump can be seen as cowardly because there is nobody alive who has more courage than the president.
'The word chicken – one of the problems that the Democrats have had with Donald Trump is the fact that after 'fight, fight, fight,' everyone knows he is the bravest man in the world,' Fox & Friends co-host Rachel Campos-Duffy, referencing last year's assasination attempt on Trump, breathlessly declared on Tuesday.
Campos-Duffy, whose husband serves as the president's transportation secretary, claimed this was all 'propaganda' to make the American people forget that Trump was 'shot in the head' at a Pennsylvania campaign rally. At the same time, though, she insisted the nickname won't stick because the public knows how courageous and unafraid the president is.
'Every man that saw that knows he is brave,' she continued. 'Bravest man in the world. They are thinking using 'taco' and the word 'chicken' on Trump somehow is going to damage or put a dent in that teflon image he has as the very brave person. Frankly, he is brave to take on tariffs!'
The former Real World star was far from the only Fox News personality to fume over the acronym that Democrats and anti-Trump influencers have gleefully embraced.
Specifically, the network's conservative stars have recently taken issue with Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA), who posted a video on his TikTok account of a staffer asking him: 'Hey, Congressman, what the f*ck is up with Trump always chickening out on tariffs?' The California lawmaker, who has long been a vocal critic of the president, merely responded by biting into a Taco Bell crunchy taco.
'The Democrats have become so lame,' Fox & Friends co-host Lawrence Jones groused in response to the video, while Campos-Duffy called out Swalwell for his 'cringey response' to Trump. Their colleague Brian Kilmeade, meanwhile, blamed the whole 'TACO' acronym on Fox's corporate cousin The Wall Street Journal, which is also owned by Rupert Murdoch.
'The Wall Street Journal was at war with the president when it comes to tariffs,' he claimed. While the Journal did eventually report on the ''TACO Trade' that has Trump fuming,' the paper wasn't the first to cover the cheeky term, which traders had been using for weeks and was initially coined by a Financial Times columnist.
Elsewhere on the president's favorite morning show, former Speaker of the House and current Fox News contributor Newt Gingrich also rejected the nickname because, in his view, Trump never loses.
'This whole recent thing about 'TACO,' you know, Trump always caves. That's nuts,' Gingrich huffed. 'Here's a guy with the courage to endure the CIA and the FBI with the Russia hoax. He endures two impeachment attempts, a rigged election, two assassination attempts, four efforts to put him in jail, and his critics think that he always caves. My experience is, he almost always wins.'
(Separately, it is notable that Gingrich outright called the 2020 presidential election 'rigged,' considering that Fox News paid Dominion Voting Systems $787.5 million in 2023 to settle a defamation lawsuit that alleged the network parroted Trump's baseless election fraud conspiracies.)
The conservative cable giant's top opinion hosts, meanwhile, seemingly took turns the night before to find different ways to sneer at Swalwell's video while insisting that the derisive epithet is not gaining any traction.
'I want to point out that we like tacos. That's why this doesn't work. We like tacos,' Fox News resident 'comedian' Greg Gutfeld exclaimed on The Five before referencing Swalwell's alleged ties to a Chinese spy.
'Eric Swalwell should have been doing Chinese food — his chopstick was found in a wonton,' Gutfeld snarked. The FBI never accused the lawmaker of any wrongdoing, and a House Ethics probe concluded without taking any further action against the congressman.
Gutfeld wasn't the only pro-Trump Fox host to invoke the Chinese spy allegations while blasting Swalwell's video.
'I wonder if Fang Fang likes the burrito bowl,' Laura Ingraham chuckled on Monday night.
'The left's weird moment goes to Fang Fang Swalwell, who posted this video on TikTok on Trump's tariffs,' Trump confidant and 'shadow White House chief of staff' Sean Hannity proclaimed before airing the clip. 'Maybe somebody needs to tell Mr. Fang Fang that the Atlanta Fed is predicting 4.6 percent growth in the second quarter.'
Still, while Fox's top Trump loyalists were going out of their way to talk about how much they 'like tacos' and therefore the sobriquet won't actually hurt the president, other voices on the channel pointed out that this is something that could break through with the public.
'It's totally fair game,' National Review editor Rich Lowry said on the Sunday broadcast of MediaBuzz. 'And apparently Trump was irritated in part because he hadn't heard it, and afterwards was irked with his aides not telling him about this.'
Lowry added: ''TACO,' it's catchy, kind of funny, and gets to a real phenomenon with the tariffs, which he's backed off them.'

CNN megastar millionaire mocked for saying she's 'scared' to travel to America under Trump

CNN megastar Christiane Amanpour was brutally mocked after she admitted she was 'afraid' to travel to America under President Donald Trump. The British-Iranian journalist shared her feelings on the podcast 'The Ex Files' on Wednesday, talking with her ex-husband and co-host Jamie Rubin about her recent trip to the US. Amanpour, 67, said she traveled to the States last month to give a speech at her alma mater Harvard Kennedy School, but traveling to the US made her feel like she 'was going to North Korea.' 'I must say I was afraid. I'm a foreigner. I don't have a green card. I'm not an American citizen. I'm fairly prominent, and I literally prepared to go to America as if I was going to North Korea,' she told Rubin. 'I took a burner phone. Imagine that. I didn't take a single…not my mobile phone, not my iPad, nothing, and I had nothing on the burner phone except a few numbers.' People quickly took aim at the journalist, seemingly mocking her for her comments. 'Don't visit. We will survive,' a user wrote on X. 'CNN's Christiane Amanpour is free to remain wherever she feels safe. Feel afraid to travel to America, then don't come here. Simple,' another said. 'She is full of bullc**p,' someone else wrote. 'We don't need evil like you entering this country anyway so stay out,' another quipped. Another told her to go after former President Joe Biden instead of Trump, telling her to 'criticize the guy who opened the borders and fucked up immigration, not the guy fixing it.' 'Then stay in England,' said one, as someone else wrote: 'Nobody cares.' Although she feared for the worst, Amanpour soon revealed her welcome to the county 'could not have been nicer.' 'So, huge sigh of relief I breathed, but wow, can you imagine if I'm afraid, what do others think?,' she added. Amanpour also said her fears grew and prompted her to discuss with the network's security team because other British citizens told her they were either turned around at the border and detained for hours on end. Rubin then chimed in about Trump's recent decision to bar foreign students from attending the Ivy League. 'With Donald Trump's basically weaponization of the immigration and naturalization service to scrutinize people, to imagine that every single non-American is a threat to the United States, is a war on what our country has been since its founding,' he said. The president announced Wednesday that he banned foreign nationals from studying at Harvard University as he continues to class with the institution. He issued an executive order entitled Enhancing National Security by Addressing Risks at Harvard University, which suspends the school's student visa program - calling it a 'privilege granted by our government, not a guarantee.' He also doubled down on his claims that the school violated federal law and argued it is important to limit international students for national security reasons. 'The Federal Bureau of Investigation has long warned that foreign adversaries and competitors take advantage of easy access to American higher education to, among other things, steal technical information and products, exploit expensive research and development to advance their own ambitions and spread false information for political or other reasons,' the executive order stated. 'Our adversaries, including the People's Republic of China try to take advantage of American higher education by exploiting the student visa program for improper purposes and by using visiting students to collect information at elite universities in the United States.' Harvard has nearly 6,800 international students, making up more than 27 percent of its enrollment in the past academic year, according to the BBC. On the same day, Trump also signed another bombshell executive order that bans visitors from 19 countries from entering the US. Nationals of Afghanistan, Chad, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran , Libya, Myanmar, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen will be barred from entering the United States under the new order, which goes into effect on June 9. Citizens of Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan and Venezuela will be partially restricted from traveling, removing access to all immigrant visas and several non-immigrant travel options. Trump also issued a warning that Egypt could soon join the no-fly list in the wake of the Colorado terror attack in which an Egyptian national who overstayed his visa allegedly set fire to pro-Israel demonstrators. 'We don't want 'em,' Trump said bluntly in a video released shortly after the ban was announced. 'Very simply, we cannot have open migration from any country where we cannot safely and reliably vet and screen.'

Ghost Adventurer star wails in court as he comes face to face with wife who tried to kill him

Ghost Adventures star Aaron Goodwin broke down in court as his estranged wife was sentenced for plotting his murder in a chilling murder-for-hire scheme. On Wednesday, a Nevada judge sentenced Victoria Goodwin, 32, to 36 to 90 months in prison after she pleaded guilty to conspiring to have her husband killed while he was on a filming trip in California. Court documents revealed that Victoria contacted Florida inmate Grant Amato - who is serving a life sentence for murdering his parents and brother - and offered him $11,500 to carry out the hit, with a $2,500 down payment already made. But, her devious plan unraveled when prison authorities seized Amato's phone and discovered disturbing communications between him and Victoria. Investigators said she instructed him to make Aaron's death look like an accident and provided detailed information about his travel plans and routines. At her sentencing, Victoria apologized to Aaron, saying she would 'always hold love for him' and promised he would 'never be in danger of her again.' Aaron, 49, wept as he described the betrayal of discovering that the 'love of his life' had not only cheated on him but had tried to have him killed. 'For seven years I thought I was in the most loving relationship of marriage with my best friend, someone who I trusted with my whole heart and laughed with every day,' the paranormal investigator said. Failing to hold back tears, he said after he found out his then-wife was 'cheating on him with several men,' he gave her options for a path forward. One option was divorce and another was 'trying to work things out' because he just 'loves her so much.' Aaron went on to recount how Victoria initially expressed regret and begged not to lose him. 'She didn't want to lose me,' he recalled. 'She was so sorry for the pain she caused me. At least that's what she told me.' He then revealed the extent of her betrayal. 'Now discovering she put a hit out to kill me more than once, got blackmailed, and spent almost our entire savings to keep it quiet.' He also told the court that Victoria had even 'got spiritually married' to the man she enlisted to kill him. In his emotional statement, Aaron said the experience has left him deeply scarred and in constant fear for his life. 'This has led me to fear for my life. I've hired armed security for weeks, not knowing if it was over or not,' he said. 'I cry every day, I feel so low. She grew me into a person I never was. I will always wonder why.' He accused Victoria of attempting to keep him from speaking at the sentencing, claiming he only learned of the murder plot when detectives informed him. 'Now, behind bars, she's trying to manipulate through lawyers and trying to silence me to not come here today,' he said. The murder plot was set to unfold in October 2024 while Aaron was filming Ghost Adventures in California. The show follows Aaron and three other men as they explore reportedly haunted locations and investigate paranormal activity. Prosecutors cited chilling messages recovered from Amato's phone. One message from Amato to a hitman read: 'He's asleep right now in the hotel room… I need to know what's going on. Can I get an update. Was it done?' In another message, Victoria wrote to Amato: 'Am I a bad person? Because I chose to end his existence. Not divorce.' When questioned by authorities, Victoria claimed she first learned about Amato through a true crime documentary and began corresponding with him. She described their relationship as 'pen pals' and admitted that she and Aaron had been experiencing marital problems, which led her to 'connect' with Amato. According to divorce documents obtained by Court TV, Aaron and Victoria married in May 2020. Following her arrest, Aaron filed for divorce on March 12, stating: 'The views, tastes, likes, and dislikes of Husband and Wife have become incompatible to the extent that it has become impossible for them to live together as husband and wife in marital harmony. There is no possibility of reconciliation between Husband and Wife.'

George Clooney's ex-girlfriend Stacy Keibler, 45, rocks a bikini... before he hits the Tony Awards

Former WWE star Stacy Keibler shared a bikini photo to Instagram this week as she posed with her young son on his seventh birthday. The 45-year-old looked very toned with impressive abs that can only be hard won at the gym. This image comes just before her ex boyfriend George Clooney is set to attend the 78th annual Tony Awards in New York City on June 8. He will likely take as his date his attorney wife Amal Clooney. The 64-year-old Oscar- winning actor has been in the play Good Night, And Good Luck. He has been Tony nominated for Best Performance for a Leading Actor in a Play for his role as legendary journalist Edward R. Murrow Keibler was one of the final names on Clooney's legendary roster of girlfriends before the actor found lasting love with his now-wife Amal. Their two-year romance was hot and heavy, but they called it quits in June 2013. By October, Clooney had already moved on to brilliant British lawyer Amal, and within six months, they were engaged. The sudden turn of events 'irked' Keibler at the time, as she had believed wedding bells might soon be in her future, per US Weekly. Keibler left Hollywood behind after the split and settled into a quieter life as a loving wife and mom. She went on to marry her longtime friend, Future Ads CEO Jared Pobre, in 2014. Keibler and the tech engineer live in Wyoming after leaving the fast life of Los Angeles behind. She's embraced motherhood three times over, sharing three beautiful children with her husband, Jared: 5-year-old son Bodhi Brooks, 4-year-old daughter Isabella Faith, and 9-year-old daughter Ava Grace. Keibler also rocked this black-and-white suit in Mexico this spring 'We live in Jackson Hole, and it's so nice to just have a little tribe there,' she previously told People magazine. 'I really wanted to take a break from the spotlight for a little while and focus on family,' she continued. 'Jared and I both took a few years away from our careers and even took a four-year digital detox. 'I was off all social media for four years and it was great. Jackson Hole is a complete opposite lifestyle of Los Angeles. So we were able to really focus on all the things that are really important to us.' After leaving WWE in July 2006, Stacy showed off her versatility by competing on Dancing with the Stars, where she finished third in the show's second season. She also popped up in guest roles on How I Met Your Mother and Psych, adding some acting credits to her name. Then, in April 2023, Keibler was inducted into WWE's Hall of Fame, cementing her legacy in the industry. But these days, much of her focus is on her family. 'I've entered into another chapter of being a mom, and anyone with three kids knows that that's a juggling act, and it's my full-time job,' she told People in 2023. 'So I have taken a step back to focus on putting my heart and soul into that,' she added. 'Now, because I've been a performer since the age of 7, of course, it's also in my heart, but it's just something that I've kind of taken a backseat to, focusing on something else.'
