"Normal Thing For Me": Centurion Vaibhav Suryavanshi On Hitting First-Ball Sixes
The cricket world stands captivated by his audacious stroke-play but for 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi, stuff like first-ball sixes is a "normal thing" as he remains unfazed by the grandeur of the stage. Suryavanshi lit up the IPL by becoming the youngest ever centurion in T20 cricket with his 38-ball 101 that was dotted with 11 sixes and seven fours. A staggering 94 of his runs came in boundaries in what was only his third game in the high-stakes tournament.
This was after a whirlwind 34-run knock on IPL debut that came off 20 balls and featured the first-ball six that fixed the spotlight firmly on his cherubic face.
"It was a normal thing for me. I have played Under-19 for India and also at the domestic level, where I have hit first ball sixes. I was not under pressure to play out the first 10 balls. In my mind I was clear that if the ball comes in my radar, I will hit it," Suryavanshi told the IPLT20 website after the win over Gujarat Titans on Monday night here.
"It was not like that I was thinking it's my first game. Yes, there was an international bowler (in front of me) and the stage was big but I was just playing my game," he recalled.
The youngster from Bihar's Samastipur was born a good three years after the IPL got underway so his marauding knock makes him the first player who is younger than the league itself to score a hundred in it.
Suryavanshi expressed gratitude towards his parents -- father Sanjeev and mother Aarti -- for sacrificing their comforts for his growth.
"I am what I am because of my parents. My mother, for the sake of my practice schedule, wakes up at 3 in the morning after going to sleep at 11, sleeping barely three hours.
"She then prepares meals for me. My father left his work to support me. My elder brother is taking care of his work and the household is running with great difficulty. But papa is backing me," he said.
"...god ensures that those who work hard never fail. The results that we are seeing and the success that I am achieving is because of my parents." The youngster vowed to keep his focus despite the spotlight and work towards finding a place in the national team.
"I want to contribute for India and I have to work hard for that. I cannot stop working hard till I achieve that level. I will try to do well for the country," he said.
He was also thankful towards the Rajasthan Royals team management for instilling confidence in him at step of the way after he was brought on board following a trial.
"I was preparing for this moment for a long time and I am happy that it worked out the way I wanted. In the trials, I batted well and there was (batting coach) Vikram (Rathour) sir and (team manager) Romi (Bhinder) sir who said we will try to pick you in the team.
"They introduced me to (head coach) Rahul (Dravid) sir. To be trained by Rahul sir is a dream come true and I get a lot of support from the other support staff and senior players, they give me confidence that I can do it," he said.
"They always tell me that I can win it for the team. There is no pressure of what will happen next because they motivate me," he added.

'My brother will not come back no matter how much compensation anyone gives. If there was a possibility of my returning, then we would pay the money ourselves,' said Sridhar K.T., brother of Shravan K.T., 20, who was one of the 11 people who died on June 4 in a stampede that occurred during the IPL victory celebrations of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) team. Karunakar Shetty, the father of another victim, Chinmayi Shetty, 19, said that he was in his hometown in Udupi district to perform certain rituals for his daughter. 'While I am here, the tahashildar went to my house in Bengaluru and informed that the Deputy Commissioner will visit and issue compensation on Tuesday. But what do we do with the money? My daughter did not even like cricket and by some cruel twist of fate, she ended up there,' he said. The State government, which had earlier announced compensation of ₹10 lakh, later raised it to ₹25 lakh following severe public backlash. Many fans are now demanding that the RCB management, which has also announced compensation of ₹10 lakh per victim should increase it and players should also volunteer to help the families of the victims. However, Mr. Sridhar said, 'I see that many people are blaming even the players of RCB for what happened. That should not be the case as they had nothing to do with it. We do not want any compensation from anyone. I wish that all the stakeholders learn from this and next time when there is a big event, they arrange it much carefully with all the necessary security and emergency medical services.'

Karnataka HC adjourns RCB plea against stampede case, state agrees not to take coercive action
A single-judge bench of the Karnataka High Court has adjourned to Wednesday a plea filed by the Royal Challengers Sports Limited, the owners of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru cricket team, for the quashing of an FIR registered against unnamed team officials in a case of culpable homicide over the death of 11 fans in a stampede on June 3. Justice S R Krishna Kumar adjourned the pleas of the RCB management, as well the owners of the DNA Entertainment Networks Pvt Ltd, an event management firm, to allow the state government to file objections to the pleas. The HC noted a 'gentleman's understanding' between the advocates for the state and the lawyers of the petitioners that the Karnataka police will not take any coercive action against officials of the two firms in the form of arrest until Wednesday and that the officials of the two firms will not attempt to leave the country. The HC, meanwhile, adjourned to Tuesday the hearing of bail pleas filed by Nikhil Sosale, marketing head at RCB, and Sunil Mathew, a vice-president at the DNA Networks, who were arrested on June 6 in connection with an FIR filed by the Cubbon Park police in central Bengaluru against RCB, DNA and the state cricket association over the June 3 stampede. Eleven people were killed in the stampede at the M Chinnaswamy cricket stadium in Bengaluru on June 3, which occurred around a victory celebration organised for the IPL-winning RCB team at the stadium operated by the Karnataka State Cricket Association. The event was managed and organised by DNA Network. The police have alleged that the stampede occurred due to open invitations issued to RCB fans on social media by the private cricket club for a victory parade without obtaining clearances for the event from the Bengaluru police as mandated. During the arguments on Monday, senior counsel Sandesh Chouta, appearing on behalf of Nikhil Sosale, said the arrest of the RCB marketing executive was vitiated in law since no arrest intimation was provided at the time of his detention and that the arrest was made by the Bengaluru Central Crime Branch police despite the case filed by the Cubbon Park police being transferred to the CID of the Karnataka police. The advocate for Sosale also argued that the arrests by the Bengaluru police were carried out on the basis of an order of the Karnataka chief minister, which was also stated by Siddaramaiah at a press conference–and not on the basis of investigations. Advocate-General K M Shashikiran Shetty argued that RCB had declared on June 3 itself in Ahmedabad, where the IPL finals was held, that there would be victory celebrations in Bengaluru and that social media messages were put out at 7 am on June 4 by RCB about a victory parade in Bengaluru, without obtaining permissions from the Bengaluru police. 'A Rs 1,000-crore company (RCB) with an annual revenue of Rs 450 crore has announced a compensation payment of just Rs 10 lakh for the victims,' he said. The HC adjourned the hearing on the pleas by Sosale and Mathew to June 10 after the advocate-general sought time to respond to arguments that the arrests in the case were carried out by the Bengaluru police even after the case was transferred to the CID. Last week, the Karnataka HC bench of Justice S R Krishna Kumar granted protection from arrest until June 16 to officials of the Karnataka State Cricket Association, including president Raghuram Bhat. The KSCA is named in the cricket stadium stampede FIR along with RCB and DNA. On Friday the Karnataka HC granted conditional interim protection from arrest to three KSCA officials, including its president Raghuram Bhat, a former cricketer, in the stampede case. The KSCA officials have claimed in their HC petition that officials of the event management firm DNA held a meeting with the Bengaluru police on June 3 for holding a celebration event for RCB at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in the event of RCB winning the IPL finals. The KSCA has said that IPL events are held at the stadium by RCB with event managers DNA Networks. The bench of Justice S R Krishna Kumar said while posting the case to June 16 that 'by way of an interim arrangement and without prejudice to the rights and contentions of the parties, the respondents are directed not to take any precipitative / coercive steps'. A division bench of the HC headed by acting Chief Justice V Kameswar Rao is due to hear a suo motu public interest petition on the stadium stampede deaths on Tuesday. Last week the division bench posed nine questions to the Karnataka government including 'When and who has taken the decision to hold the victory celebration and in what manner?'

Bengaluru stampede: Suspended IPS officer moves Central Administrative Tribunal; challenges Karnataka govt's order
NEW DELHI: Senior IPS officer Vikash Kumar Vikash, who was among the five officers suspended by the Karnataka government in connection with the June 4 stampede outside Bengaluru's Chinnaswamy Stadium, has approached the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) challenging his suspension, official sources said on Monday. They are likely to hear the matter in the days ahead," sources told news agency PTI. Vikash was Bengaluru's additional commissioner of police (West). On Thursday, a day after the incident, Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah suspended the five officers, including Bengaluru City police commissioner B Dayananda. Defending the action, Siddaramaiah said the following day that those who did not fulfil their responsibility properly were suspended. The suspension order said, "It is found that there has been, on the face of it, a substantial dereliction of duty by these officers." The stampede occurred in front of the Chinnaswamy Stadium, the home venue of (IPL) 2025 winners Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), on Wednesday. A large number of RCB fans had thronged to participate in the event to celebrate RCB's title win, its first since the league began in April 2028. The ceremony was held despite police objections on multiple grounds, including lack of time to make arrangements for the function. RCB defeated Punjab Kings just the previous night to clinch the title in Ahmedabad.
