Memorial Day closures announced

All Calcasieu Parish Public Library branches and facilities will be closed on Monday, May 26, for the Memorial Day holiday. Normal hours will resume on Tuesday, May 27.
Items can be renewed online at www.calcasieulibrary.org and clicking on the My Account icon at the top of the page or by using the chat feature found on the website, however no fines will be charged during the holidays.

All Calcasieu Parish Police Jury departments will be closed Monday for the Memorial Day holiday. Offices will reopen on Tuesday.
Garbage and trash pickup will run on schedule for Waste Management customers. The Residential Solid Waste Convenience Centers in Lake Charles and Sulphur will be open on Memorial Day.

The offices of the Chennault International Airport Authority will be closed on Monday in observance of the Memorial Day Holiday.

The city of Lake Charles will observe Memorial Day on Monday. Lake Charles City Hall will be closed on this day, and there will not be any trash or garbage picked up. Changes in trash and garbage pickup are as follows: trash and garbage normally picked up on Monday will be rescheduled for pickup on Tuesday; trash normally picked up on Tuesday will be rescheduled for pickup on Wednesday. Thursday and Friday routes will remain on their regular schedules.
All other services of the Department of Public Works, including all Recycling Operations (Nelson Ball Field/Alma Lane and Roving Green Truck) and the Incinerator will be closed on Monday and will resume regular hours of operation on Tuesday.

Veterans who served our country also deserve a monthlong celebration
While I have no issue recognizing and celebrating the LGBTQ+ community, I am wondering why an entire month is set aside each year? After all, we have Veteran's Day, Memorial Day, Father's Day, Mother's Day, and even one day is set aside to celebrate the birth of our country. Vandalism at Langley Pond Park causes limited availability for bathroom facilities
AIKEN, S.C. (WJBF) – Aiken County Parks and Recreation announced the Langley Pond Park bathroom facilities will now operate under limited hours due to 'continued vandalism.' In a statement posted to the county government Facebook page on Friday, officials state the bathrooms will only be open when park staff are on site. According to the department, staff are typically on site Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and seven days a week from the Memorial Day to Labor Day season. $1 entry for neighborhood pools, this weekend only
( — This Saturday and Sunday, the City's Department of Youth, Parks and Community Enrichment is inviting the community to take advantage of the $1 neighborhood pool entry, the City of Sacramento said. On June 14 and June 15, admission is only $1 per person at all neighborhood pools. Video Above: The splash pads now takes the place of the old wading pool which closed back in 2018 'We're excited that, with the opening of the newly converted Mama Marks Splash Pad and the reopening of Southside Pool, this will be the first summer since 2018 that all City aquatics facilities will be open,' said Sjon Swanson, YPCE recreation manager. 'We remain committed to ensuring that every community has access to safe and fun aquatic facilities this summer.' Throughout the summer, neighborhood pools will cost $3 for youth and $5 for adults for recreation swim through the summer. Officials said the open hours and days may vary.
