Puppet Master captains O'Brien's Lingfield trials team

The Ballydoyle handler fields two in the William Hill Lingfield Derby Trial Stakes, a Listed event run on a track with a sweeping left-hand turn, said to best resemble the test the colts and fillies will face at Epsom.
O'Brien has won the Derby Trial on six occasions, with Anthony Van Dyck following up at Epsom in 2019. The last horse to run at Lingfield and win the Derby was Charlie Appleby's Adayar, who was beaten by Third Realm in his trial.
Stable jockey Ryan Moore has gone for Puppet Master over the once-raced Stay True, with O'Brien highlighting the fact he has had three more outings as the deciding factor.
Puppet Master was an easy winner at Galway last summer (Niall Carson/PA)
'Ryan has gone for Puppet Master over Stay True because he's got the more experience,' he said.
'Stay True is a lovely horse and he came out of his win at Leopardstown well. But he's still a baby and we weren't even sure if he was too babyish for this, but we're going to learn more.
'He's in good order and looked like a horse who would get a mile and a half at Leopardstown.
'Obviously with Ryan's horse we liked him a lot last year (fourth in the Royal Lodge).
'He had a good run first time back in the Ballysax (fourth to stablemate Delacroix) this year which has been boosted (by the second, Lambourn, at Chester), so he has more experience and we'll see where he's going to slot in.'
Only three have been declared in the William Hill Oaks Trial Fillies' Stakes, including O'Brien's Giselle, who is certainly bred to be winning Classics as a daughter of Frankel out of Newspaperofrecord, who was a Breeders' Cup winner.
Giselle (green silks) was second to Bedtime Story on debut (Brian Lawless/PA)
When she made her debut in June she was sent off odds-on to beat stable companion Bedtime Story, who subsequently won at Royal Ascot by nine and a half lengths.
She won her second race and was then third in a Group Three behind another stablemate, Whirl.
'Giselle is just ready to start as she has just taken a bit of time to come to hand this spring,' said O'Brien.
'We felt she was just ready for a race and we think that the experience will do her good.
'If Ryan can get her relaxed in the race, we'll see what happens.'
Taking her on are Grant Tuer's Love Talk, winner of a valuable handicap at Goodwood last summer, and Simon and Ed Crisford's Harpsichord.
Marco Botti's Great Generation won the William Hill Chartwell Fillies' Stakes last season and returns with her sights set on the same Group Three prize when making her seasonal debut.
She prevailed by a neck 12 months ago when in receipt of plenty of weight as a three-year-old, and now at four she loses that allowance and is also required to carry a penalty for her prior success.
'She's wintered well, her preparation has gone to plan and this has been the plan for a while,' said Botti.
'She won this race last year but as a three-year-old she was getting weight from the four-year-olds and she also carries a penalty, so it's a slightly different story.
'I know they have been catching up with the watering, it's currently good to firm so hopefully that doesn't create a situation where it's loose on top.
'In terms of the opposition it has cut up a little bit, you have the three-year-old receiving weight but to me it looks an open race that is stronger than last year.'
That opposition includes Ralph Beckett's Cathedral, the three-year-old filly in question, with Roger Varian's Jabaara, John and Thady Gosden's Spiritual, Richard Hughes' Fair Angellica and Alice Haynes' Ziggy's Dream also entered.

Jeremy Kyle guest who killed girlfriend's hamster has lifetime animal ban axed

ITV's Jeremy Kyle Show has been hit with controversy over the years, including one guest who killed his girlfriend's hamster after finding out he was not the father of her baby A former star of The Jeremy Kyle Show has had his lifetime ban on owning animals lifted. Controversial host Jeremy, 59, confessed that he still feels "immensely proud" of the ITV show, despite it being a factor in the death in one of its guests. The programme showcased a diverse range of individuals to the public, including an elderly escort who happily had sex with over 1,000 men. ‌ However, one previous guest has since appeared in court to have his lifetime ban on keeping animals lifted. Ryan O'Brien, from Stevenage, was granted this right by a judge who agreed that he had succeeded in "turning his life around" and proving he can care for a pet. ‌ In 2012, O'Brien pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to an animal after he hurled a hamster against a wall and stamped on it to kill it. At the time of the animal's death, O'Brien was in a tumultuous relationship with his girlfriend that had just ended shortly before the incident, as reported by The Comet. His relationship abruptly ended after appearing on the controversial ITV programme to determine whether he was the father of a 13-month-old girl he had been co-parenting with his partner. It was during his stint on the show that a DNA test revealed he was not the father of the toddler, reports the Daily Star. After admitting to the offence, O'Brien was initially slapped with a suspended jail term and an indefinite ban on keeping or owning animals. But in a dramatic turnaround, he's managed to get the ban overturned after convincing the court of his reformation. When he stood before Stevenage Magistrates' Court on May 22, no fewer than four witnesses vouched for his transformation, convincing the magistrates that he was now fit to care for a pet. His solicitor highlighted to the press that the magistrates had witnessed a profound shift in O'Brien's demeanour. ‌ Now 35, O'Brien has welcomed a new addition to his life, a miniature British bulldog pup named Dotty. Chatting with The Comet, he shared his journey of turning over a new leaf, leaving behind substance abuse to concentrate on bettering himself. "I have now completed a three-year apprenticeship with the construction company Wates and am a qualified tiler, decorator and electrician," he proudly told the paper. He's also giving back to the community, lending a hand at food banks and warm spaces. ‌ "A lot has changed; I've changed," O'Brien reflected. "I haven't got a bad bone in my body now." He expressed deep remorse over his past actions, saying: "Killing the hamster is the biggest regret of my life. I just wasn't thinking at the time." Despite his efforts to move forward, O'Brien acknowledged that he still faces the consequences of his past, with public shaming being a constant reminder. However, he expressed gratitude towards The Jeremy Kyle Show for shedding light on truths about his former partner. He shared that he's been clean since Christmas, steering clear of drugs for the past two years. He admitted reaching a juncture where he was "sick" of his previous lifestyle. Now, with "a good support network of friends", he's turned a new page: "I have stopped hanging out with people who were bad for me."

ITV's James Martin makes touching career announcement as he bids viewers farewell 'for now'

James Martin announced he will be taking a break from his ITV show, Saturday Morning. TV chef James Martin has declared he will be taking a break from his hit ITV show, Saturday Morning, as he and his colleagues take time out for summer. The famed cook concluded June 7's show with a touching message. The celebrity chef and TV personality wrapped up the programme by expressing his appreciation, saying: "That's all we have got time for today, a massive thank you to all of my guests". ‌ He then showed his gratitude towards his food team, continuing: "My food team, you can sleep better now. Daniel and Sally, and of course, Harry Redknapp and Carly Paoli." ‌ James subsequently announced the series finale, adding: "That is also for the series. Me and the crew are heading off on sunny holidays. Different climates." Engaging in banter about holiday plans with the crew, it was revealed one member would be jetting off to Portugal whilst James plans a jaunt to Yorkshire, reports the Mirror. He assured fans that they can expect more gastronomic treats when the show resumes: "Yorkshire for me. But we will be back here with more top chefs, other brilliant guests, and more delicious recipes later on in the year." James signed off by wishing the audience a fabulous summer break. "Until then, thanks for watching," he said. "Have a wonderful, fantastic summer. I'll see you out there wherever you are." ‌ He ended the episode with a courteous goodbye: "Thanks for watching, see you again soon, goodbye for now." Earlier on, James had let viewers know that there would be a briefer show due to another event. ‌ "Because of the Derby on ITV1 this afternoon, it is a shorter episode than usual today," he noted, before assuring: "But we still have time for one more dish." Whilst enjoying a cooking segment in Italy, James playfully considered settling there after savouring a traditional fish dish prepared by a local chef, much to the entertainment of those watching. "Can I just say if your two sons don't want to do this, you call me," he suggested. ‌ Chuckling, James contemplated a tempting thought: "I might retire here. I could be over there, I could be doing this, it is fantastic." It comes after the 52-year-old revealed he's parting with some of his race cars because they're getting harder to get out of the older he gets. ‌ "The car collection sort of changes as you get older," he shared with Samuel Goldsmith on the Good Food podcast. "You can't get in the cars that I bought 20 years ago and I can't get out of them. So I've sold quite a few of the race cars and I've gone into sort of old school cars. So stuff that I can get into and get out of." James noted that motor racing is better suited for the svelte: "It comes down to the fact that I race cars, or I still try and race a few cars and I actually struggle to get out of them now. "Getting in them, you kind of fall in them, but then you've got to get out of them and it just doesn't look very good." James' enviable collection, valued at an estimated £5million, includes vehicles with significant historical value. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community!

James Martin announces Saturday Morning break as he makes exciting summer plans

James Martin bid his Saturday Morning viewers a fond farewell as the show is being taken off the air for the summer - and he did not explain exactly when the show will be back James Martin has revealed he is shunning exotic holidays and choosing to relax in the UK as his Saturday Morning TV show is paused for the summer. The 52-year-old TV chef took to the air for a final time this weekend ahead of an extended break. The star has been hosting ITV's James Martin's Saturday Morning since 2017 - but fans will have to go for several weeks without seeing him on screens. On Saturday, the host explained that his show is being put on ice for the summer. ‌ He did not give an explicit time or date that the long-running series would return - but did shed light on what he would be doing in the interim. After thanking his guests and co-stars, he engaged in some banter with his crew. When the episode came to an end, James announced: "That is also for the series. Me and the crew are heading off on sunny holidays. Different climates." Turning to his team, he asked: "Where are you going?" A crew member could be heard replying that they would be going to Portugal - leading James to reveal he was looking forward to a staycation rather than jetting off to the sun. He revealed: "Yorkshire for me." Saturday's episode brought to a close the current season of the show - which was forced to be shorter than usual due to a conflicting event. He told fans: "Because of the Derby on ITV1 this afternoon, it is a shorter episode than usual today. But we still have time for one more dish." When the episode ended, he made sure to explain that he was grateful to his guests, crew and viewers for making his show a continued success. He said: "That's all we have got time for today, a massive thank you to all of my guests." ‌ He continued: "To my food team, you can sleep better now. Daniel and Sally, and of course, Harry Redknapp and Carly Paoli." James later teased when his show would be back on the air - but did not commit to an exact date. He said: "We will be back here with more top chefs, other brilliant guests, and more delicious recipes later on in the year." And signing off, he told viewers: "Until then, thanks for watching. Have a wonderful, fantastic summer. I'll see you out there wherever you are. Thanks for watching, see you again soon, goodbye for now." ‌ ITV has been making headlines in recent weeks over the brutal changes they have been making behind-the-scenes, reportedly leading to staff redundancies and even reports Lorraine Kelly is considering quitting the network after her number of shows per year was cut in half and her time slot hugely reduced. ITV revealed last month: "From January 2026, Good Morning Britain will be extended by 30 minutes to run from 6am to 9.30am daily, and will transfer to be produced by ITV News at ITN at their base at Gray's Inn Road in London. GMB will be made by a dedicated team within ITV News at ITN. "This change will see ITV bring all its national news gathering into one hub, with Good Morning Britain benefitting from the journalistic and production resources already in place for national news bulletins, for the website and for digital platforms including ITVX." It was added: "Lorraine, This Morning and Loose Women will continue to be produced by ITV Studios and will be broadcast from a new location in central London." Drastic changes have not yet been made for weekend scheduling.
