CM urges Centre to expedite Pantnagar airport runway expansion

on Tuesday urged Union civil aviation minister Kinjarapu Ramamohan Naidu to expedite various aviation projects in the state, aimed at improving air connectivity and promoting tourism.
In a high-level meeting focused on aviation development, Dhami highlighted the state govt's efforts, including the transfer of 524.7 acres of land to the Airports Authority of India (AAI) for the expansion of the Pantnagar Airport runway. The project seeks to extend the runway from 1,372 m to 3,000 m.
Dhami also requested the expansion of Dehradun's Jolly Grant Airport, and the extension of its nighttime operations until midnight. "The extended operational hours will benefit more passengers with air services," he said.
Dhami also called for regular flight services under the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS UDAN) between Naini Saini Airport in Pithoragarh and Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi. He also proposed introducing air services from Pithoragarh to Dharchula and Munsyari, noting that it would greatly facilitate local travel. The CM also suggested extending the watch hours at Naini Saini Airport for nighttime operations.

Emphasising Pithoragarh's strategic location along the Indo-China and India-Nepal borders, Dhami highlighted the importance of enhanced air connectivity for both aviation development and national security.
The CM also urged the Centre to promote local products by establishing 'House of Himalayas' stalls at Dehradun, Pithoragarh, and Pantnagar airports, and called for the commencement of international flight services from Jolly Grant Airport. He also proposed direct air services from Dehradun to Haldwani, Dehradun to Pantnagar, and Dehradun to Nagpur, and sought inspections of airstrips at Chinyalisaur and Gauchar. The Union minister assured positive action on all proposals.

And Bhartiya Rail is at the service of these pilgrims, facilitating their overall experience in Shreekshetra Puri. Last 11 years have been historic for Odisha's railway infrastructure development. Under PM Shri Narendra Modi's Purvodaya policy, Odisha's railway budget allocation has seen 12 times jump to over Rs 10,500 crore in 2025-26 as compared to the annual average during 2009-14. Since 2014, over 2,100 km of new tracks have been laid in Odisha — more than the entire rail network of Malaysia. Approximately Rs 73,000 crore worth of projects for constructing new tracks in Odisha are going on. Altogether 59 Amrit stations are being developed, including 16 stations in aspirational districts. Six Vande Bharat services covering 17 districts are operational. The most special contribution of Indian Railways to Odisha is during the Rath Yatra. The railways undertakes the task of serving lakhs of Rath Yatra pilgrims every year. These services connect many districts of Odisha, including aspirational districts of Kalahandi, Balangir, Nuapada, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati and Dhenkanal and interior tribal regions to Shreekshetra Puri. An AI-based real-time demand prediction system has enabled dynamic scheduling. Ten platforms are welcoming the pilgrims this year. Additional ticket counters have also been set up at Puri as well as other railway stations. A comfortable visit for a divine experience With the spirit of 'Seva Parmo Dharma', Bhartiya Rail ensures dignity, comfort, and security of the pilgrims during the Rath Yatra. This year marks one of the largest facilitation drives for inclusive pilgrimage travel. The railways is ready to cater to around 20 lakh passengers with a daily peak of 2 lakh. A holding space with a capacity to accommodate 25,000 pilgrims has been designated. Adequate arrangements have been made to provide relief from the hot weather. Sufficient food stalls and water booths & coolers have been arranged. An estimated 2.5 lakh free meals will be served to the pilgrims. Sanitation and cleanliness arrangements, including modern jet cleaning machines and sewage suction trucks are also in place. A much larger pool of security personnel have been deployed for ensuring safety and security of the pilgrims. They will be supported with CCTVs, drones, and face recognition systems. Accessibility needs of Divyangjans, elderly, women, and medically vulnerable pilgrims have also been taken care of. Medical booths with doctors and paramedics, ambulances, and first-aid counters have been set up. This year, Indian Railways has converted Puri station into a model of inclusive and faith-centred public service. Special railway jacks for a special cause A team of Indian Railways, including engineers and technicians, is also deployed at the Rath Yatra. This team is responsible for ensuring smooth movement and repair work of the chariots during the Yatra. The team assists in transporting the massive chariots from the construction site to Shree Jagannath temple. The railways team uses the special screw jacks for ensuring proper positioning, alignment, and forward movement of the chariots on the designated path. It also helps in removing any obstacles and maintaining adequate distance between the chariots. The team accompanies the chariots till the completion of the Yatra. Bhartiya Rail is fondly called as the lifeline of the nation. It remains committed to the service of all Indians, including the pilgrims, who consider Rath Yatra as their lifeline. Bhubaneswar: To ensure smooth movement and a comfortable journey for devotees, the East Coast Railway (ECoR) on Wednesday reviewed the comprehensive arrangements made to manage influx of devotees for Rath Yatra. ECoR general manager Parmeshwar Funkwal inspected Puri railway station and emphasised passenger comfort, crowd management, infrastructure readiness, and integration of technology to elevate pilgrim experience. The railways announced operation of over 365 special trains from various states to accommodate the extraordinary travel demand. To manage the unprecedented crowd, ECoR established dedicated pilgrim waiting areas and mela sheds with a combined capacity of around 20,000 pilgrims. The station infrastructure was significantly enhanced with covered seating zones, modular toilets, drinking water booths, mobile charging stations, and medical first aid stations with ambulance backup. A 24X7 control room at Puri will oversee operations, supported by help desks and 'May I Help You' counters across key points. Mobile UTS counters and automatic ticket vending machines (ATVMs) with facilitators were also deployed to promote digital ticketing. ECoR official sources said security measures were strengthened with the deployment of RPF and GRP personnel, 250 CCTV cameras, drones, and sniffer dogs. Face recognition technology and dual-stage ticket checks will be implemented at 10 entry gates. Special attention was paid to elderly passengers, women, children, and the medically vulnerable through battery-operated vehicles, reserved seating, and accessible facilities. ECoR also partnered with various NGOs to provide free hygienic food service and drinking water to pilgrims on the railway premises. The railway zone effectively combined technology with tradition to ensure a safer, smarter, and more convenient travel experience for all devotees attending the sacred Rath Yatra.

MSEDCL hikes tariffs by up to 3% for 100+unit users

Mumbai: The Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) has come out with the tariff orders for state power utility firm MSEDCL which shows a marginal increase in tariff from 0.5 to 3% for low and high-end residential consumers having monthly electricity consumption over 100 units. In the 0-100 consumption category, there is relief as the orders showed a drop of 9% in tariff this financial year. The new tariffs will come into effect from July 1. MSEDCL tariffs continue to be the highest in the state as compared to BEST, Tata Power and Adani Electricity. "In the past, we witnessed a minimum 10% hike in tariff and this year we have changed the scenario. In the next five years, tariff is set to drop furthermore as we are procuring more green power through solar, hydro etc, saving Rs 66,000 crore in power purchase," Chandra said, adding that tariffs will not go up next five years for all including industry ensuring more industries come to Maharashtra. Tariffs will drop eventually for all residential users till 2029-30. Experts said that the last tariff announced by MERC in March had a 4-13% drop in rates for MSEDCL which was better than the present tariff structure. "The last tariff order was challenged by MSEDCL which filed a review petition citing discrepancies and the order was stayed for two months," he said. Another feature of the order included an additional 10% TOD discount for daytime electricity use for residential consumers with smart meters and incentives for residential consumers generating solar energy.
