MVP Win Not Shifting Bills' Josh Allen From Super Bowl Mindset
MVP Win Not Shifting Bills' Josh Allen From Super Bowl Mindset originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen won the NFL MVP award for his stellar 2024 season, which was the best of his career. Advertisement But that was months ago. Time has moved on, and now attention is firmly on the 2025 season and what the Bills, who are one of the favorites for the Super Bowl, can accomplish. However, being the league MVP is a great honor and a valuable accolade to have, but it isn't the be-all and end-all. In fact, Josh's offseason hasn't been any different, and he knows it means absolutely zero when it comes to the 2025 season. "It's no different to me to be honest,' Allen said. 'At the end of the day, it doesn't mean a whole lot in terms of winning championships, so that's kind of what it is.' Bills quarterback Josh Allen after winning MVP© Kirby Lee-Imagn Images With the Bills' eyes now firmly fixed on this upcoming season, Allen's MVP award, as he stated, doesn't move the needle one way or the other when it comes to what can be accomplished in this new season. Advertisement Allen has a ring; he just married Hollywood actress Hailee Steinfeld. But he wants more. He has three new weapons in Joshua Palmer, Laviska Shenault Jr., and Elijah Moore, and Josh has already mentioned an adjustment period for the trio, so some moving parts need to settle down this offseason. Buffalo is seen by many to have perhaps the most well-rounded roster in football, with the best chance at Super Bowl glory since Allen was drafted, but we have heard that before. Now is the time to build the foundation for what Buffalo hopes will be a productive season, and for Allen, the MVP now means nothing - it's all about getting that championship. Bills Fans Wonder If James Cook ‘Loyalty' Can Be Counted On
Bills Fans Wonder If James Cook 'Loyalty' Can Be Counted On originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Buffalo Bills running back James Cook turned heads this week with his arrival and participation at minicamp. Advertisement After a tumultuous few months of public outcry over his lack of a new deal, the former second-round pick's arrival was a welcome sign for the organization. That doesn't mean a deal is close to taking place, though. Buffalo has locked up several of their young core to this point. Defensive stars like Christian Benford, Gregory Rousseau, and Terrel Bernard enjoyed lucrative extensions over the last few months. Cook remains the lone player not to have a new deal. Just because the running back showed up to minicamp does not guarantee that he'll be in attendance for the start of training camp in a month. … as Bills Mafia wonders if 'loyalty' is a factor here. Advertisement And as things stand, Bills general manager Brandon Beane isn't entirely sure if he will arrive in Rochester for the start of practices. "You'd have to ask him," Beane said. "He hasn't said, 'Hey, I won't be there. There's no deal.' Or any kind of circumstances. So no, I believe Jimbo will be ready to roll whether there's a deal or not." Cook has repeatedly stated his desire for a new deal worth around $15 million per year. Buffalo currently has less than $5 million in cap space. If the two sides are going to agree on a new deal, the organization needs to create some cap space. Cook is entering the final year of his rookie deal and is coming off a season in which he led the league in rushing touchdowns. Advertisement He is more than deserving of his lucrative contract extension. And while his appearance in minicamp was a positive turn for both sides, it doesn't guarantee that his loyalty will stretch to training camp. Bills' Disappointing Rookie Labeled Breakout Candidate in Year 2
Bills' Disappointing Rookie Labeled Breakout Candidate in Year 2 originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Buffalo Bills selected Florida State wide receiver Keon Coleman with the 33rd pick in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft. But he did not have the year many thought that he would. Advertisement But that sets him up for a breakout season in his sophomore year. In a recent article by PFF's Bradley Locker, he puts together a team of players that he thinks could step up in a big way in 2025. And one of the players he picks is the Bills' young wideout. "Assuming Coleman can clean up his catch rate — his 13.5% drop rate was the eighth-highest among receivers with 50-plus targets — then his play should only improve," Locker wrote. "Coleman may not be a separating whiz, as he sat in the 0th percentile in separation rate and the second percentile against single coverage, but his abilities as a deep threat and with the ball in his hands should render him one of Josh Allen's top targets." The reigning AFC East champions acquired veteran receiver Amari Cooper at the trade deadline in 2024, which did take some targets from Coleman. With the team not likely to re-sign Cooper, the 22-year-old receiver could see his number of opportunities go up. Advertisement Coleman finished his rookie season with 556 yards and four touchdowns in the 13 games he appeared in. So while his first year in the league was not bad by any means, it was a bit disappointing since he was the first pick in the second round of his draft. The Bills will be looking to redeem themselves in 2025 after a loss in the playoffs to the Kansas City Chiefs, and they are hoping that Coleman can help them do that.
