JOPLIN, Mo. — A ceremony in northwest Arkansas seals the deal to allow certain students to easily transfer to Missouri Southern State University.
MSSU President Dr. Dean Van Galen shook hands with Dr. Dennis C. Rittle, president of Northwest Arkansas Community College, to make it official Monday.
Students from NWACC in Bentonville will now be able to easily transfer their credits to Missouri Southern in Joplin after earning their associate's degree.

Dr. Van Galen calls it a 'clear and affordable pathway' for those students to further their education and earn their bachelor's degree at MSSU.
Dr. Rittle had this to say:
'In this agreement it allows for a lot of seamless transfers so the college credits– nothing gets lost. it's a smooth transition and in many cases there are scholarships attached so the generosity of missouri southern has allowed for additonal incentives financial for the students,' said Dr. Rittle.
Missouri Southern developed eight 'two plus two' (2+2) transfer pathways in collaboration with NWACC, meaning students can spend two years completing an associate's degree, then two more years to complete a bachelor's.
Those areas of study include biology, business, and healthcare administration, just to name a few.

Riverside Education Centers awarded state funding to support out-of-school programing

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — On Monday, Riverside Education Centers (REC) announced that it has been awarded funding through the Out-of-School Time (OST) Grant Program. The nonprofit has been providing after-school or out-of-school programming across 13 schools in Mesa County for almost 20 years. The OST Grant Program will help offset part of REC's operating costs for its out-of-school programming. 'REC aims to be there for our students and their families day after day, year after year,' said Executive Director of REC Jack Curry. 'Consistency is key to building trusting relationships with students and retaining quality staff. This grant program is designed to honor that.' According to a 527 participant survey conducted by REC, 98.5% stated that they felt like they were part of a community at REC. 'REC has given me a place where I actually feel supported… not just in school, but in life. The tutors don't just help with homework — they check in on me, give advice, and actually care if I succeed. It's like having extra cool older siblings who don't steal my clothes. Plus, REC helped me figure out my college plans without having a full-on existential crisis,' said an anonymous senior from Central High School. The OST Grant Program was created under HB24-1331 and was passed by the Colorado legislative session in 2024. It was advocated by Representative Rick Taggart, Tim Foster and Joy Hudak. It aims to support out-of-school programs that provide academic enrichment for students enrolled in public schools. 'Being awarded this funding is more than just financial support—it's a recognition of the incredible impact OST programs have on youth development,' said Curry. 'We are immensely grateful to Rep. Taggart, Tim Foster, Joy Hudak, and the many others who supported this multi-year effort.' The Pablo Torre-Bill Simmons 'feud' has reached its inevitable podcast

Pablo Torre has a few questions for Bill Simmons and it appears he's headed over to The Ringer's podcast studios to get some answers. After Torre and Simmons traded barbs over the former's Bill Belichick-Jordon Hudson reporting, the Pablo Torre Finds Out host is reportedly going to sit down with Simmons on The Bill Simmons Podcast to clear the air — or dirty it up some more. According to Meadowlark Media's Dan Le Batard at the start of his Tuesday show, "Pablo Torre will be appearing on Bill Simmons' podcast here." And considering PTFO is a Meadowlark Media production, the sourcing seems pretty solid. The fact that Torre is going on Simmons' show, instead of the other way around, is a bit notable. It was Simmons who fired off criticism of Torre's reporting on Belichick during a recent episode of The Ringer's The Rewatchables. When word got back around to PTFO, Torre made it known he had a few questions for Simmons about the Hudson-Belichick drama and invited The Ringer founder over to PTFO for a chat. It's hard to know what to expect here, or if Simmons will return the favor by going on Torre's show, but it is undoubtedly good the two will at least have a chance to clear the air — and it's even better for fans of both who get a chance to hear the discussion. Hopefully the episode is dropping soon.
