PSG or Inter? Wesley Sneijder makes Champions League final prediction
Wesley Sneijder believes Inter Milan are the only team capable of locking down Paris Saint-Germain when they meet in the Champions League final tonight.
After years of frustration and disappointment in the competition, PSG have enjoyed a sensational run to the final in Munich on Saturday.
A dazzling array of talent spearheaded by Ousmane Dembele and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has slain three Premier League sides en route with Liverpool, Aston Villa and Arsenal all falling at their feet.
Inter return for their second final in three years after their unforgettable semi-final victory over Barcelona, progressing after a 7-6 aggregate victory.
Sneijder was part of the last Inter team to win club football's biggest prize, part of the Jose Mourinho machine along with Samuel Eto'o, Diego Milito, Thiago Motta and Maicon that secured a historic treble in 2010.
Having watched PSG dispatch three English teams on the bounce, the Dutchman believes an Inter team that boasts the best defence in the competition is better equipped to deal with PSG and punish the Parisians.
Where the Premier League's best were undone, Sneijder believes Inter have the answer.
'If you see the English teams PSG played against, all of them they tried to play the game their way, they tried to attack,' Sneijder told Metro. 'But on the other side, that gives a lot of space to the opponent.
'PSG were happy with that way of playing. So there were space to exploit. And of course they have the quality to do something with that. But on Saturday it will be a totally different game. Inter don't mind leaving the ball to PSG.
'Inter, they have great defenders, they defend as a team and they are waiting for mistakes. They have such power down the sides, especially down the right with Denzel Dumfries so it is going be a very different approach for PSG to deal with. Inter are so dangerous in the transition and can punish them.'
Inter missed out on the Serie A title a week ago with Napoli sealing the crown on the final day of the season last Friday. The Champions League is the bigger prize for Simeone Inzaghi's side with Sneijder convinced his old side must be considered favourites. More Trending
'They are the favourites for me,' he said. 'At the end of the season, they put everything into getting to the Champions League final. Heading into the last game of the Serie A season, I don't think they believed anymore about winning the championship.
'Because they thought Napoli wouldn't make mistakes. So they have been waiting for this game. It has been 15 years and now is the right moment to get this trophy.'

Russell Martin makes Rangers vow as new boss delivers clear message to doubters
Martin was paraded inside the Blue Room today after being confirmed as Ibrox boss Russell Martin has vowed to win over his doubters and told Rangers fans: I'm here to win trophies. Martin, 39, was paraded at Ibrox on Thursday morning after penning a three-and-a-half-year deal to take charge. "At every level, I got questioned. There are always some names in football management that are always a bit more exciting than others, of course. "But I feel after five-and-a-half years of being a manager, coach, a leader - I love doing it. "And I'm going to be all in here, bringing my energy, my love for it and passion and hopefully that will reflect on the pitch and people will see that. "At some point, they'll enjoy it and hopefully I'm sure if our team is winning, they'll be happy." Sitting alongside chief executive Patrick Stewart and sporting director Kevin Thelwell, Martin added: "The supporters are the most important people at any football club. They'll be here long before and after any manager or coach. "So I think my job is to give them at team that they identify with and feel proud of. A team that wins and they go to a game knowing what to expect. "A team that's going to give everything, to run as hard as they possibly can. I think that's one thing that gets overlooked about the teams we managed. "They always ran the most out of possession, the most sprint distances, the most high-speed runs. They have to if they want to dominate the ball and be aggressive, so I think it's a given. "It's never a given actually, it's an attribute. You need to work hard and not everyone has that. So we want people that have that to come to the club. "I'm sat next to two people who work extremely hard and have a work ethic that matches my own. I'm excited about all of that. "And to the fans? Listen, I have to win. I don't think I've been the number one choice at any club I've been at. "At MK, from a player to become the manager was a bit of a surprise to supporters. To then go to Swansea, they lost in the play-off final, the budget's been cut and then we turned up from League One. "And then Southampton was the same. They had just been relegated from the Premier League, so I'm sure there were all sorts of names being mentioned with the job, and then I got it. "And by the time I've left every club I've been at, I've felt a real connection with the supporters. I've felt they've been really behind us. "Definitely the playing staff and the staff we've been working with wherever we've been, because of the relationships we've formed and maintained at every club we've been at. "And I hope this will be the same, I really do. And I hope people judge us and me in particular on this moment and not when I was a player here a while ago because it's very, very different. "I feel my whole playing career was based on hard work, resilience and trying to find a way myself. I'm even surprised at the playing career I had to play in the Premier League because if you said that when I was 18, I wouldn't have thought that. "But I feel my whole playing career was set up to become a coach and a manager. I always wanted to do that and I'm really grateful that I've ended up playing for as long as I did. "But I've always had a burning desire to do this from an early age and actually, my period here from before, was an incredible learning for me. "It helped me so much in my journey about culture, what to expect, about what's required. Red Bull weigh up potential candidates if Max Verstappen faces F1 race ban

The Dutchman must be on his best behaviour in the next two races in Canada and Austria before two points are wiped from his license. 6 Verstappen admitted ramming into Russell during the Spanish Grand Prix was "not right" Credit: PA He was slapped with his first two penalty points in the current rolling 12-month period after last year's Austrian Grand Prix on June 30. He collided with Norris on 30 June, and even after those points expire this year he will still be three points away from suspension. Verstappen will be teetering on the edge of a ban until after the Mexican Grand Prix on 27 October having pushed Norris off the track in last year's race there. He has enjoyed a meteoric rise from being left in tears in the season opener in Melbourne after crashing in the rain on the formation lap. He also tested the 2024 car and found it "comfortable" rather than tricky like many others who have sat in the Red Bull cockpit. When Red Bull boss Christian Horner was asked about Hadjar, he said: "I think he's been the most outstanding rookie. He's exceeded all of our expectations. "He's been fast, consistent, and constantly delivered. His future, if he keeps performing as he is, is very bright." 6 Liam Lawson was axed as Red Bull's No2 driver after just two races this season Credit: Getty LIAM LAWSON The Kiwi 23-year-old isn't completely off the radar despite suffering a woeful TWO-RACE stint as a Red Bull driver at the start of this season. He suffered three early exits in all three qualifying sessions, including the sprint, and didn't bag a single point before being turfed out to Racing Bulls for Yuki Tsunoda. However, Lawson has experience with this season's car and that could boost his credentials when weighing up the options for a one-off race. Things are looking up for the Racing Bulls driver too with him securing his first points in Monaco. 6 Daniel Ricciardo was bought back into the Red Bull family in 2023 to race for their junior team Credit: EPA DANIEL RICCIARDO This is a huge blast from the past but Aussie maestro Ricciardo, 35, is a wild shout to fill in for Verstappen. Afterall, he is an experienced, senior head in the paddock, remains a favourite of Horner and has bags of experience with the team. Ricciardo knows the team inside and out, having spent two seasons with the junior side before enjoying five years as a Red Bull driver. He won seven grands prix racing alongside both Red Bull legends Sebastian Vettel and Verstappen. Horner bought him back into the Red Bull family at the end of 2023 with the then-junior team Alpha Tauri before he was dropped for Liam Lawson the following year. 6 Japanese driver Ayumu Iwasa filled in for Verstappen in FP1 in Bahrain this year Credit: Rex AYUMU IWASA The Japanese Super Formula driver has been part of the team's junior drivers' programme since 2021. Marko said at the start of the season: "We have Ayumu Iwasa as our reserve driver' with the 23-year-old an F3 and F2 race winner. It is a big shout for him to replace Verstappen for a one-off race though with his more likely destination being a stand in driver for Racing Bulls. He filled in for Verstappen in FP1 at this year's Bahrain Grand Prix, and made his Racing Bulls debut in practise in Suzuka last year. 6 Brit driver Arvid Lindblad has been making waves in Red Bull's junior programme Credit: Getty ARVID LINDBLAD The 17-year-old Brit is a future star of Red Bull, having been with the team for four-years. He continues to make waves this season, making his debut in F2 for Camps Racing, as part of Red Bull's junior team. He stood on top of the podium this season for the Saudi Arabian sprint race and in Spain last time out. It would still be a huge step up to be thrust into the Red Bull seat and his age is also a barrier. The FIA announced in 2016 that an F1 driver must be at least 18 unless they are "judged to have recently and consistently demonstrated outstanding ability and maturity in single-seater formula car competition". Earlier this year Helmut Marko revealed they had applied for an exemption from the FIA's ruling that drivers under the age of 18 are not eligible to receive a super license. They want to promote Lindblad to official reserve driver status so he may be well be on the F1 grid soon.

The younger Maguire, who plays for League Two side MK Dons, headed off for the wild celebrations with a group of pals and his Man Utd star brother. 9 9 9 9 Laurence, who is an absolute ringer for his England defender brother, was spotted at Zrce Beach's iconic party island over the weekend. The group of 30-plus wore snazzy multi-coloured beach shirts and quirky hats, with beers and cans in hands, during all hours of the trip. Harry, 32, was even snapped wearing a rainbow glitter crop top with silver tassels and rave sunglasses on Instagram. Groom Laurence, 28, posted several pictures of the group, including eldest brother Joe, enjoying Spring Break Island parties. Another photo showed the Premier League star wearing a red bucket hat with a blue disco flyway top, which showed his entire chest.
