The Butler County Coroner's Office has identified the Lakota Local Schools student fatally wounded in a crash in Liberty Township.
Sajandeep Singh, 17, of West Chester Township, died May 14 at the University of Cincinnati West Chester Hospital after the two-vehicle crash on Mauds Hughes Road, the coroner's office said in a news release.
Officials say Singh was traveling northbound on Mauds Hughes Road when his Honda Civic crossed left of center and collided head-on with a 2021 Ford Transit traveling southbound.
After performing an autopsy, the coroner's office listed Singh's preliminary manner of death as an accident.
The school district previously confirmed that the 17-year-old was a student but declined to release his name or the exact school he attended until given the family's permission.
"It is with deep sorrow that Lakota Local Schools has learned of the tragic loss of one of our students," a statement from the district reads. "Our hearts are heavy as we extend our deepest condolences to the student's family, friends and all who knew and loved him."
The teen's death marks the third time a student in the Lakota Local School District has died in a vehicle collision within the past year or so.
On March 23, 2024, 14-year-old Laith Masri, a freshman at Lakota West High School, was killed in a crash at the intersection of Verity Parkway and Hughes Street, which also injured four other students.
Just under two months later, on May 15, 2024, 15-year-old Aspen Dylan Runnels was walking in a crosswalk toward the end of the school day at the Lakota East Freshman Campus and was struck by a vehicle. He died of his injuries less than two weeks later.

DUI driver who killed Lake Placid teen drove 5x the legal limit

HIGHLANDS COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — A man has been charged with DUI manslaughter after a 16-year-old girl was killed in a head-on collision, the Florida Highway Patrol said. At around 4 p.m. on May 22, a Ford F350, driven by 44-year-old Thomas Raulerson, was traveling the wrong way on U.S.-98, going north in the southbound lane, in a construction zone. A second vehicle, a Honda Civic, was traveling south on the southbound lane, driving behind an SUV. The driver of the SUV, approaching the vehicle going the wrong direction, braked and steered right, colliding with a construction barrel on the side of the road. The 16-year-old girl driving the Honda Civic braked as the SUV went off the road, and was hit head-on by the Ford F350. She was pronounced dead on the scene. Raulerson's blood alcohol concentration level was .445, which is over five times the legal limit. He was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries before being arrested and charged on May 30. He was charged with two counts of DUI property damage and DUI manslaughter. Karim Reyad murder trial postponed to September

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The trial of Karim Reyad, charged with murder in a crash in 2023 that killed a 66-year-old woman, was postponed to September after a defense attorney on Friday said an expert witness was still working on the case. The trial, which had been set for next month, is now scheduled for Sept. 2. Reyad, 20, is alleged to have been driving more than 100 mph while impaired by marijuana when his Dodge Challenger slammed into a Honda Civic near the intersection of Campus Park Drive and Evening Star Way in southwest Bakersfield. The Honda's driver, Gayla Sue Price, was pronounced dead at the scene of the April 18, 2023, crash. Reyad is charged with second-degree murder and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, among other crimes. Vigil held for 11-year-old boy hit by a car in East Bakersfield There is no standard legal measurement for impairment by marijuana — something Reyad's attorneys have raised at prior hearings. They've also questioned the reliability of witness statements and data obtained from the heavily-damaged Dodge. A prosecutor has said Reyad's driving behavior on the day of the crash and the days leading up to it rose to the level of implied malice required for the second-degree murder count. Reyad bought the Dodge on April 12, and replaced the tires twice before the crash because he performed frequent burnouts at his home and other locations, according to his statement to Bakersfield police investigators. A week before the collision, he was arrested on suspicion of driving while impaired by marijuana. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. 125 mph speeding sedan causes multi-vehicle carnage in San Fernando Valley

At least five vehicles sustained major damage Friday morning in the San Fernando Valley when a pursuit of a speeding driver ended in a violent crash. It happened around 7:40 a.m. in the North Hills neighborhood shortly after the California Highway Patrol abandoned the pursuit due to safety concerns. Minutes earlier, CHP officers spotted a white Honda Civic traveling on the 405 Freeway at speeds of about 125 mph. Officers tried to pull the vehicle over, but the driver fled. Within minutes the chase was called off due to potential danger as the driver left the freeway onto surface streets. Video shared with KTLA showed the carnage that ensued after that same vehicle collided with a turning pickup truck on the 15400 block of Nordhoff Street. The pickup attempted to make a left turn into a parking lot when the speeding sedan arrived in a flash, smashing into the passenger side of the truck and careening out of control. The sedan hit several parked cars, sending debris across the roadway, and the pickup rotated violently into oncoming traffic into a moving vehicle. At least five vehicles were involved in two separate crashes. The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the scene and transported two people to a local hospital. CHP officials confirmed one of those transported was the suspect driver. The conditions of those injured was not disclosed. The crash remains under investigation. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
