Three suspects involved in robbery detained by police within 24 hours
KUANTAN: Three men suspected of committing a robbery at a house in Felda Jengka 8, Maran were arrested yesterday.
Maran District Police Chief, Supt Wong Kim Wai said that the first arrest involving two suspects aged 29 and 51 was made in Jerantut at noon, while another man aged 30 was apprehended in Maran at 2.15 pm.
He said that during the incident at around 9pm last Friday, the victim, a 34-year-old man, was startled by the presence of suspects in the kitchen of his house, with one of them holding a knife.
'The victim was then tied up using nylon rope and a belt before the suspects fled with a Proton Saga FLX vehicle, cash, and jewelry with an estimated loss of RM16,000,' he said in a statement today.
Wong said the victim managed to free himself from the bindings on his hands and feet before leaving the house to seek help from villagers.
'All the suspects who have past criminal records related to drugs were arrested within less than 15 hours after the incident was reported,' he said, adding that the case was being investigated under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code.

"TH Travel does not offer subsidised or externally sponsored packages that require pilgrims to pay into unofficial or individual accounts. "TH Travel is not involved in any form of fundraising through cleaning companies, cake businesses or third party intermediaries," the statement said. TH Travel takes seriously the misuse of the company's name and reputation to deceive Muslims intending to perform the Haj pilgrimage. "We understand that a police report has been lodged and an investigation is underway by the authorities and TH Travel is prepared to provide full cooperation to the Royal Malaysia Police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) in handling this case," the statement said. – BERNAMA

Klang boat incident: Victims believed not wearing life jackets
KLANG: All victims involved in the capsized boat incident in the waters off Tanjung Harapan here yesterday were believed not to be wearing life jackets. North Klang District Police chief ACP S Vijaya Rao said initial investigations also revealed that the boat, which was being test-driven, was operated by its owner at the time. He said the absence of life jackets had made the search and rescue (SAR) operation for the remaining two missing victims among the six people on board more difficult. 'Those who engage in activities at sea must wear life jackets, which are very useful during emergencies like this capsized boat incident, in addition to having swimming skills,' he said at a press conference at the search site in Tanjung Harapan today. Vijaya said the location where the boat capsized had been identified, but strong currents may have swept the two missing victims away and caused them to drown. Meanwhile, he said police had recorded statements from three individuals, including one survivor. 'The actual cause of the incident has yet to be determined, and the case is being investigated under Section 280 of the Penal Code,' he said. In the incident at about 5 pm, three individuals including a child died, one survived (Alvin Chang Yan Qin, 17), while a married couple remains missing. The deceased victims were Darren Gan, 3; Cheu Son Hin, 50; and Fong Yong Sen, 29, while those still missing have been identified as Gan Hon Tat, 32, and his wife Careen Man, 29, both from Klang Utama.
