Pina Sonata hits the right notes at Leicester
Trained by James Fanshawe, the daughter of Pinatubo had impressed when opening her account at Wolverhampton only 28 days ago and was sent off the well-backed 8-13 favourite, as she confirmed that Dunstall Park promise in the Nobilo Sauvignon Blanc EBF Fillies' Novice Stakes.
'Hopefully she is going to be a very nice filly going forwards,' said Hugo Lascelles, racing manager to owner Mary Slack.
She looks smart.

'She needed a little bit of cover early on and didn't get it and funnily enough her sister (Sky Safari) ran at Salisbury on Saturday and she pulled. Once she got a bit of cover she settled down well and then was very pleasing.'
Chief among the opposition was Owen Burrows' smartly-bred Frankel filly Alfareqa who had dazzled at Doncaster last time, but ultimately proved no match to the winner here, as Pina Sonata scorched three-lengths clear in the closing stages in the hands of Daniel Muscutt to signal a rise in grade.
Lascelles added: 'We'll obviously go for a nice stakes race now somewhere, whether that will be Listed or Group Three, we will see, and then just feel our way from there. Two-thirds through the year we can see where we are at, but we're not going to just jump in at the deep end.
'I'm excited, we bred her at home and it's really nice when you breed one at home and follow one through.
'It was a classy run in a pretty good race I would say. I don't think she will go to Ascot, but I'm excited and she will go for a black-type race next.'
It proved a worthwhile trip to the east midlands for Pegasus Stables handler Fanshawe, who also claimed the Dark Horse Wines Handicap with Me Tarzan (7-4 favourite).
However, it was Pina Sonata that really got the trainer's juices flowing and he added: 'It's great that she followed up her Wolverhampton win and she stepped up under a 7lb penalty with a couple of nice fillies in the race who had nice pedigrees.
'One thing she did enjoy was the ground today – I don't think she would mind any ground, but she did enjoy it out there today
'It's great she's done it and also great for her owner Mrs Slack who is a great supporter of mine and now we can be a bit more ambitious.'
Earlier on the card there was a smart performance on debut from Kevin Ryan's Rock On Thunder to claim the Orin Swift EBF Maiden Stakes.
Sent off the 4-1 joint-favourite in the hands of Jim Crowley, the son of Night Of Thunder justified his trainer's lofty opinion with a length and a quarter success.
Ryan said: 'I was delighted with him, he is a horse who has always shown us plenty at home, albeit we haven't pressed too many buttons with him to be honest as he's one who has always done things very easily.
'He probably over-raced a little bit for the first half furlong and Jim was wanting to find him a bit of cover from where he was drawn, but it was hard to do that.
This looks a warm race and 380,000gns buy Rock On Thunder (Night Of Thunder) strikes on debut.

'Jim said he was quite green and would come on for the run which is what I would expect and he's a horse we hold in high regard.
'When you think highly of a horse it's lovely when they can go and do that and sometimes they can go the other way and run very green – especially when they don't come off the bridle very often.
'He's going to improve massively for the run and he's a nice, exciting horse going forward.'
On a possible Royal Ascot run, Ryan added: 'We'll see how he comes out of the race and it's something I'll discuss with Sheikh Mohammed Obaid.
'Ascot comes very early for a lot of these horses and it's a long season, so it's a decision we won't take until close to entry time. We'll see how he comes out of the race and he'll tell us.'

Horse racing tips: Tuesday, June 3
Ron Wood is showing a healthy profit from his horse racing selections and has two tips for today, including a NAP from this evening's all-weather card at Wolverhampton. Ron Wood's selections: Odds provided by William Hill and correct at the time of writing. Stars denote strength of selection (max 5). If you already have a William Hill account and are looking for a new bookmaker to use for this week's racing, check out more free bets from the best betting sites, reviewed by our experts. 6.30 Wolverhampton – Class 5 Fillies' Handicap (1m 1½f) It's a first-time handicap starter who appeals in this one, namely LUISA, who is the sole ride on the card for Daniel Muscutt. The selection was third behind two subsequent winners in a novice race at this track on the second of her two juvenile starts. She failed to build on that at the same venue on her reappearance, but she had a troubled run and probably needed the outing. Another 83 days on, there's a fair chance she'll confirm that earlier promise and prove ahead of what is a modest handicap mark in a weak fillies-only event. She has a useful pedigree and goes for good connections. Selection: Luisa @ 8/1 with William Hill Go to site > 2.17 Leicester – Class 6 Handicap (1m 2f) This is a moderate race and SHABU SHABU can potentially improve enough to make a winning handicap debut. He has been well held in three maidens and novices, but they came on the all-weather at up to a mile and he has since been gelded. The selection now switches to turf and goes up in trip, and his pedigree is loaded with stamina. The fitting of cheekpieces for the first time is a bit disconcerting, but there still seems a fair chance he will prove competitive off a basement mark, with a capable apprentice taking 7lb off. Selection: Shabu Shabu @ 11/4 with William Hill Today's racing (Flat unless stated) Leicester 2.17-5.47 Southwell (NH) 2.30-5.00 Wolverhampton 6.30-9.00 Lingfield 6.15-8.45 Ron Wood 2025 horse racing P/L Star ratings explained ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - confident selection ⭐⭐⭐⭐ - strong fancy ⭐⭐⭐ - fair claims ⭐⭐ - tentative choice ⭐ - minimum confidence If you want to find more odds and offers, take a look at our list of the best betting sites and free bets If you're looking for casino bonuses, we've ranked UK welcome offers here

'It's a big gamble' - fans on potentially losing Ait-Nouri as well as Cunha
We asked how you feel about the possibility of Wolves losing both Matheus Cunha and Rayan Ait-Nouri in this transfer window. What impact could that have on the side? Could they can be replaced? Here are some of your comments:Dave: I find it highly frightening. This team could handle the loss of Cunha but Ait-Nouri as well, I don't know. It will be a challenge to replace their directness and It was always going to happen, as it does every year. The two rumoured names are on their way out and it is better to get it done sooner rather than later to give us time to replace. As always, there is a lack of trust that the money will be put to good use, but hopefully it will allow us to bring in the players we require for our latest rebuild - a right-back, centre-back, midfielder and some attacking options. Let's back Vitor and see where we end It is only worrying if Fosun does not allow the manager to replace them. If we don't replace them, next season could well be a disaster even with the excellent Pereira in charge. Quality players must be replaced with We have had a long time to accept Cunha leaving and I suspect Wolves fans have come to accept we are a selling club. Ait-Nouri is incredibly skilful. He has just had his best season at Wolves but he has also been quite frustrating. I would rather he stayed, though. Losing both means losing all of the creativity. I think Wolves will cash in and recall Hugo Bueno. Wolves don't buy Premier League experience so expect moderate expenditure on purchases from abroad. Then hope to sell on at a profit. Rinse, repeat. Another season of It is a big gamble after such a difficult season to sell our two best players. I assume Fosun is not going to gamble our Premier League status without a back-up plan. Brighton and Brentford for example have seen some of their best players leave but always seem to find new gems to keep the club progressing. One huge positive is the swiftness of business of these players out of the door. If we can act quickly with incomings rather than scrambling last minute for signings, this could be a very good Sure, it is worrying to lose your best players. But that is the nature of the league. Players want to play for the best teams. Wolves are seen as a stepping stone. C'est la I'm more concerned about losing Ait-Nouri than Cunha. Cunha's discipline is an issue and his suspension saw other players stepping up. I would rather have the £62m than an unreliable player (and I hope that these funds will be available over the summer). Wolves, like many others, are effectively feeder clubs for the big teams. They, in turn, need to nurture the talent that they can Cunha leaving has been inevitable for a number of months and the team showed they can cope without him with the winning run they put together. Losing Nelson Semedo and Ait-Nouri would be more concerning than the loss of Cunha, though, as they are key in our way of playing.
