🎥 Remembering Rafael van der Vaart's best Ajax goals 🎯
It is nearly 25 years since Rafael van der Vaart made his Ajax debut and while he did not stick around for long, the playmaker remains still highly revered.
After being handed his senior bow against Den Bosch in April 2000, he spent five years at the Johan Cruijff Arena, winning two Eredivisie titles during that time.
Van der Vaart racked up 63 goals in 156 appearances which gave fans of the Amsterdam club countless memories to enjoy before a 2005 move to Hamburg.
Here are the best of them.

Liverpool NARROW search down to two clubs
Liverpool to find club for Vitezslav Jaros Liverpool used three first-team goalkeepers last season. Alisson Becker was the no.1, of course, while Kelleher deputised brilliantly. Then there was Vitezslav Jaros. Jaros only played a handful of minutes but impressed when he did. The 23-year-old proved he's a reliable goalkeeper and one who really needs more exposure to first-team football. Advertisement Especially as Pecsi arrives this summer as the expected no.3, with Giorgi Mamardashvili joining to rival Alisson. Jaros simply can't stick around - for the good of his own career. Liverpool want to ship him out somewhere then, and it appears two clubs now look to get him. The first is Ajax, as explained by Voetbal International. The Dutch giants, who just appointing Johnny Heitinga as head coach and have Jordan Henderson as club captain, are after a goalkeeper. Jaros is on their list but Liverpool's demands are apparently too high right now. Then there's Lille, who are interested in signing Jaros as a backup goalkeeper. The report suggests these are the player's options right now. And if either meet the demands of Liverpool and player, this could move quickly. There's certainly no room at Anfield for Jaros next season - a move works in everyone's favour.

Free agent attacker keen on move to Barcelona
A departing member of the attacking ranks at Eredivisie giants PSV Eindhoven is keen on the prospect of a move to Spain with Barcelona this summer. That's according to Dutch journalist Rik Elfrink, who points towards Ivan Perišić as the player in question. Advertisement The name of winger Perišić has of course all of a sudden emerged as an altogether prominent one in Catalunya's capital over the last 24 hours. This comes after claims were forthcoming in the media that Barcelona boss Hansi Flick has set his sights on the Croatian's signature for next season. Despite his advancing years – he is now 36 – Perišić is fresh off a fine campaign with the aforementioned PSV, culminating in 16 goals and 11 assists across all competitions. And if the latest update on the subject to have surfaced in the Netherlands is anything to go by, then interest in a joining of forces between club and player appears to be very much mutual. Advertisement As per the aforementioned Rik Elfrink of ED, Perišić would be keen to test his talents in La Liga, with Barcelona a highly desirable landing spot. Tentative contacts over a potential free transfer to the Camp Nou, in turn, have already taken place, albeit with Deco and the Barca brass yet to make a call on whether or not to move forward with the deal. Frenkie de Jong expects to sign new Barcelona contract: ‘They want it and I want it'
Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong says he expects to sign a new contract with the La Liga champions. The Athletic reported in March that the Netherlands international was in talks with Barcelona over a new deal, with his current terms set to expire in a year. 'I think I will sign a new contract, but you can never say that with a hundred per cent certainty. If everything goes well, then it will happen,' De Jong told Dutch outlet Voetbalzone while on duty with his country. 'They want it and I want it, so normally you can work it out.' Advertisement De Jong made 46 appearances for Barcelona in the 2024-25 season as his side claimed La Liga and Copa del Rey titles, while also reaching the Champions League semi-final, where they suffered a 7-6 aggregate defeat by Inter. Negotiations over a new deal between Barcelona and De Jong's camp began in March, after the club sent a proposal to extend his terms at the start of 2024, but club sources — who asked to remain anonymous to protect relationships — said they did not receive a response at the time. Barcelona signed De Jong from Ajax for £86million ($116.4m) in 2019 and established his position in their midfield immediately. However, as one of the highest earners in the squad, the 28-year-old's contract became a problem for the Catalan club during a period of financial turmoil, club sources added. Manchester United agreed to pay Barcelona a guaranteed fee of €75million (£63million, $75million) for De Jong in the summer of 2022, as reported by The Athletic, but the transfer did not materialise. De Jong later criticised Catalan media for the reporting of his situation at the club, dismissing suggestions he was earning '€40million' and said they 'made up a story'. An ankle injury suffered in April 2024 sidelined De Jong for over six months, and speaking upon his return last year, the midfielder said he wondered 'whether I would ever fully recover'. 'There was uncertainty about how long it would take and whether my ankle would be completely the same as it was before,' De Jong said at the time. The Dutchman has made 259 appearances for Barcelona, scoring 19 goals and assisting 23. ()
