Donald Trump to meet National Security Council in situation room, US troops deployed to Middle East
US President Donald Trump has ordered the National Security Council to convene in the White House situation room as more troops are deployed in the Middle East. As Mr Trump stood with G7 leaders for a photo, he said: 'I have to be back early — for obvious reasons.' White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed Mr Trump's departure. 'Over the weekend, I directed the deployment of additional capabilities to the United States Central Command Area of Responsibility,' he said in a statement. 'Protecting US forces is our top priority and these deployments are intended to enhance our defensive posture int he region.' In a live interview on Fox News, Mr Hegseth added: 'What you are watching in real time is peace through strength and America First' One of the additional resources the US is sending into the region is the USS Nimitz. There it will work alongside the USS Carl Vinson, which has been in the region for some time. The USS Nimitz, an aircraft carry that is part of the US Navy, is one of the largest warships in the world. Speculation online claimed the US was now assisting Israel with strikes, however, US officials were quick to confirm the was 'not true'. Before Mr Trump's team announced he would be leaving the G7 summit early, the US President said Iran should have signed a deal already. 'Iran should have signed the 'deal' I told them to sign,' Mr Trump wrote on Truth Social. 'What a shame, and waste of human life. 'Simply stated, IRAN CAN NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON. 'I said it over and over again! Everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran!' Footage has circulated on social media of massive queues of traffic along motorways as people attempt to flee the region.
