Actor Brad Pitt reportedly finally drove a real F1 racecar around a track late last week along with a famous racer. This comes just before the release of the F1 movie. Believe it or not, the actor never did pilot a real Formula One car in the movie footage but instead was behind the wheel of a modified Formula 2 car. That's the power of Hollywood magic for you.Multiple reports confirm that on June 19, Pitt was able to drive an older McLaren F1 car around Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas. McLaren hosted the A-list actor, taking to social media to proudly declare, 'It's a Sonny day in Austin' along with an image of overalls bearing the initials 'BP.'
In the F1 movie, Pitt's character is Sonny Hayes, a washed up former F1 driver who gets a chance to race in the series and receive redemption after a career-ending crash.
Reportedly, the car Pitt was allowed to drive on Circuit of the Americas is an MCL60. McLaren used that car for the 2023 season.
The team was in Texas after the Canadian GP for a Testing of Previous Car (TPC) outing, inviting Brad Pitt for the event. Lando Norris reportedly was helping to mentor the actor before he was allowed to take the MCL60 out on the open track.
We have no idea how hard Pitt pushed the car, but considering his age and lack of racing experience, we would assume he was told to take it a little easy. Considering how insistent the man has been that he's nowhere near the level of real F1 drivers in skill, we would imagine he took any advice to heart.
At least, we know Pitt didn't wreck out or that would've been all over the place. So the man was able to control the racecar, which is itself impressive.
The F1 movie hits theaters here in the US on Friday, June 27.

The 25 best songs of 2025 so far

As we approach the halfway mark of 2025, among the things we have yet to find out are how many weeks Morgan Wallen's 'I'm the Problem' will spend at No. 1, when Lana Del Rey's supposed country album might actually drop and whether Taylor Swift was setting us up by suggesting she's unsure about completing 'Reputation (Taylor's Version).' What we do know is that Drake is not over and that Miley Cyrus is now better at making ABBA music than ABBA. Gailard Sartain, Character Actor and ‘Hee Haw' Regular, Dies at 81

Gailard Sartain, a character actor who moved easily between comedy, as a cast member on the variety series 'Hee Haw'; music, as the Big Bopper singing 'Chantilly Lace' in 'The Buddy Holly Story'; and drama, as a racist sheriff in 'Mississippi Burning,' died on Thursday at his home in Tulsa, Okla. He was 81. His wife, Mary Jo (Regier) Sartain, confirmed the death but did not specify a cause. Mr. Sartain spent 20 years on 'Hee Haw,' the country equivalent of 'Laugh-In,' hosted by Buck Owens and Roy Clark, which combined cornpone sketches with music. The characters he played included a bumbling store employee, a chef at a truck stop and Officer Bull Moose. At the same time, he also developed a movie career that began with 'Nashville' (1975), Robert Altman's improvisational drama set against the background of the country music industry. In that film, Mr. Sartain played a man at an airport lunch counter talking to Keenan Wynn. 'I just said, 'Ask Keenan what he's doing in Nashville,' and he did,' Alan Rudolph, the assistant director of the film, said in an interview. But Mr. Rudolph saw something special in Mr. Sartain and went on to cast him in nine films he directed over the next two decades, including 'Roadie' (1980) and 'Endangered Species' (1982). 'I only wish I could have fit him into another nine,' he said. 'Gailard had a certain silly magic about him. Most of my films are serious and comedic at the same time. In 'Roadie,' he was opposite Meat Loaf, as beer truck drivers, and that was about 700 pounds in the front of a beer truck. That should be funny.' One of Mr. Sartain's most notable roles was in 'Mississippi Burning' (1988), Alan Parker's film about the F.B.I.'s investigation into the murders in 1964 of the civil rights workers, James Chaney, Andrew Goodman and Michael Schwerner, who were buried in an earthen dam. Mr. Sartain played Ray Stuckey, a county sheriff whose deputy was among the Ku Klux Klansmen who killed the men. Want all of The Times? Subscribe.
