Man gets life term for wife's murder
: The additional district judge of Keonjhar, Mamita Das, on Tuesday awarded
to a man for murdering his wife in 2022.The convict,
from Sirigida village under Telkoi block, was also slapped with a fine of Rs 10,000. Failure to pay the fine would result in an additional six months of imprisonment.According to special public prosecutor Prafulla Patra, the incident took place on May 10, 2022 when Narottam entered his in-laws' house around 10 pm with an axe and attacked his 20-year-old wife,
, who was sleeping alongside her parents, Vishwanath and Gomoti Penthei. Narottam slit Babita's throat and fled when Gomoti tried to intervene.Babita succumbed to her injuries on the spot due to severe bleeding. Her father filed a complaint at Telkoi police station around 3:15 am, following which Narottam was arrested and charged with murder. The court's verdict was based on statements from 18 witnesses and the police investigation report, Patra added.

UP: Two accused in bank robbery case arrested from Mathura
Mathura (Uttar Pradesh) [India], June 12 (ANI): Two miscreants who had allegedly looted Rs 36 lakh from HDFC Bank branch in Kapurthala, Punjab nearly two weeks ago have been arrested, a senior police official said. The duo were arrested in Mathura and Rs 2.2 lakh cash was recovered from their possession. SP Mishra added, 'Rs 2.2 lakh cash, 5 mobiles and Innova car were recovered from the possession of the miscreants...' Meanwhile, in Delhi on June 4, a criminal wanted in robbery and murder cases was arrested by the team of Police Station Nand Nagri following a brief exchange of fire. According to the police, a pistol and two fired cartridges were recovered from the accused during the operation. The incident took place on May 4, when a police team comprising Constables Mukesh, Paramjeet, and Jitender was patrolling the area of District Park, A-Block Nand Nagri. At about 10:30 PM, the team received information regarding the presence of a wanted criminal near the northern side of District Park, opposite the main Wazirabad Road flyover. Upon reaching the spot, the team noticed a suspicious person and asked him to stop for a check. However, sensing danger, the suspect opened fire at the police team. Despite the threat, the team showed restraint and warned him to surrender, but the suspect fired again. In self-defence, Constable Paramjeet fired twice from his service pistol, one of which struck the suspect in the right leg. The accused stumbled and was immediately overpowered and disarmed by the police team. (ANI)

A decades-old schoolyard fight in Kasaragod has reignited after 52 years, leading to a violent confrontation. Balakrishnan, 62, allegedly attacked his former classmate, V J Babu, over a quarrel from their Class IV days. K ASARAGOD: While most childhood fights are forgotten with time, a decades-old schoolyard fight have simmered for decades and resurfaced violently in Kasaragod 52 years later. Balakrishanan, 62, of Maloth House in Kasaragod reopened a schoolyard scuffle by attacking his Class IV classmate and getting himself landed in a police case. Vellarikundu police have booked two elderly men, both classmates, for allegedly injuring an elderly man over the fight which took place in their primary school days. According to V J Babu, 62, a native of Vellarikundu, he was attacked by Balakrishnan and another classmate Mathew Valiyaplackkal at Malom town on Monday. He alleged that the attack was in retaliation to an old quarrel which had erupted between Babu and Balakrishnan when they were studying in Class IV at Natakkallu Aided UP School in Malom 52 years ago. As per the FIR, the accused, Balakrishnan and Mathew, were Babu's classmates at the school and there were quarrel between Babu and Balakrishnan while they were studying in Class IV. On Monday, Balakrishnan along with Mathew confronted Babu at Malom town around 1pm and while Balakrishnan restrained him by grabbing the collar of his shirt, Mathew allegedly hit him on the face and back of the body with a stone, causing injuries. Babu lost two teeth, and was admitted to the Govt Medical College Hospital at Pariyaram in Kannur. Babu claimed the long-standing grudge held by Balakrishnan led to the attack. Babu said he had beaten up Balakrishnan once when they were studying in Class IV, following which an argument had erupted between them and Balakrishnan held a grudge about it. However, the trio had been behaving like friends in the ensuing years. Vellarikundu SHO T K Mukundan said an FIR has been registered against Balakrishnan and Mathew under sections 126(2), 118(1) and 3(5) of BNS and investigation was on in the case. Meanwhile, efforts are on to settle the case out of court as Babu was willing to settle the case if the accused is ready to pay him Rs 1.5 lakh as compensation.
