Talkshow host Dr Phil joined Ice agents for Los Angeles immigration raids
The television personality Dr Phil was embedded with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (Ice) officers as they carried out controversial raids in Los Angeles that led to days of protests in California, his TV network said.
Phil, whose full name is Phil McGraw, was with Ice before and after its agents conducted a series of raids on multiple locations across LA on Friday. Immigration advocates said at least 45 people were arrested, and the action was condemned by California's governor and LA's mayor.
It was the second time McGraw, a former practising psychologist who hosted a TV talkshow for two decades, has been embedded with Ice this year. In January, he joined the US border czar, Tom Homan, in a choreographed immigration raid in Chicago, in a stunt that was criticized at the time.
CNN was the first to report on McGraw's presence at the Los Angeles raids. McGraw was there 'to get a first-hand look at the targeted operations', his conservative TV channel, MeritTV, told CNN. McGraw had 'exclusive' access to Homan before and after the raids, CNN reported.
During the Chicago raids, McGraw was on the ground with Ice officers and even spoke to some of the people the agency had detained. His experience in LA was less immersive, MeritTV said.
'In order to not escalate any situation, Dr Phil McGraw did not join and was not embedded' during Friday's raids, a MeritTV spokesperson told CNN.
On Sunday, he appeared with Eric Adams, the mayor of New York City, at a synagogue, as Adams signed an executive order which ordered city agencies to adopt a controversial definition of antisemitism.
McGraw, who is not Jewish but has said it was his 'duty' to support Israel, has increasingly immersed himself in political issues in recent months, particularly regarding immigration.
In April, he McGraw backed Donald Trump in the 2024 election, and in May he described Trump as 'a man of deep faith, a man of deep conviction'.

A shadowy US billionaire who is bankrolling radicals, including groups involved in this week's riots in Los Angeles, faces being hauled before a Congressional committee, according to a Republican lawmaker. China-based Neville Roy Singham will be called to testify about his funding of myriad non-profits including radical anti-Israel and Marxist groups. They include the Party for Liberation and Socialism, which has been heavily involved in protest against US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in Los Angeles this week, although there is no evidence they have been directly involved in any of the violence which has erupted there. The Party for Socialism and Liberation was recently tied to Elias Rodriguez, the suspect in the shooting deaths of two Israeli embassy staffers in Washington DC last month. In 2017, Rodriguez attended a police brutality demonstration as part of the radical socialist group, which immediately distanced itself from him in the wake of the shooting. Singham, 71, has not always been against the accumulation of capital. He is the founder and former chair of Thoughworks, a tech consulting company which he sold to a private equity firm in 2017 for $785 million. 'Roy Singham is incredibly charismatic,' said a source who did not want to be identified. She is the co-author of 'China is not our enemy,' written with Mikaela Nhondo Erskog, a researcher at another group funded by Singham. Barron Trump's friend Bo Loudon claims he got ICE to detain TikTok star Khaby Lame
Bo Loudon, the purported 'best friend' of Barron Trump, has claimed he is responsible for the arrest of the world's most famous TikToker who was detained by ICE and later forced to leave the U.S. The MAGA, Gen-Z influencer, who has been pictured numerous times with the president and his son, said he had 'personally taken action' to have Khaby Lame deported. 'No one is above the law!' he wrote in a series of posts on X, later adding: 'I've been working with the patriots at President Trump's DHS to make this happen. He was just ARRESTED in Vegas and is in ICE CUSTODY!' Despite a community note on the post calling Loudon out for false information, ICE confirmed that Lame had been detained at the Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas for violating the terms of his visa on June 6. The 25-year-old star had entered the U.S. on April 30 on a temporary visa. A spokesperson for ICE said he had been granted 'voluntary departure' following his arrest and had since left the country. 'No one works faster than President Trump's administration!' Loudon wrote, following news of Lame's departure. ICE has not confirmed Loudon's involvement publicly, and did not provide further information when contacted by The Independent. Lame, whose real name is Serigne Khabane Lame, is a Senegalese-Italian TikToker known for his deadpan reactions to other videos. His viral videos have earned him a following of more than 162 million. While in the country, Lame attended the Met Gala in New York City on May 5. He has not commented publicly on the allegations that he overstayed his visa. It is also unclear if Lame returned to Italy immediately and posted an Instagram Story of himself in São Paulo, Brazil, after leaving the U.S. Despite barely being old enough to vote, Loudon and Barron Trump were unofficially recruited to help the oldest presidential candidate in history tap into the manosphere and capture the 'bro vote' in the run-up to the 2024 presidential election. Loudon, from Palm Beach, Florida, is the son of Dr Gina Loudon, the conservative television pundit and former co-chair of Women for Trump in 2020, and John Loudon, a former Missouri state senator.
